View Full Version : I need to figure out how to attach this
Now I have an issue to figure out though. I need to connect another peice of the aluminum to this part of the frame at an angle in the corner like this

I need to do that in all 4 corners, which will end up joining the two pieces of the fram so far. I have no idea how I'm going to do that. I have some ideas of how I possibly could, but I'd really like to think of some better ones. Any clue what I should do?
As you can see, I'm a little stuck on ideas of exactly how I'm going to attach the angled piece to the corner. Any ideas?

Fabricate little metal shims that'll wrap around the corner under the piece you want to add, then J-B Weld it all together?
It's what I'd do, anyway.

Drill some holes and rivet it.
Or shape some corner braces like FuzzyPlush has recommended.

I got the impression he was trying to mount it at an angle, as shown in the photo - that's why I made the suggestion that I did. If the third piece were at a right angle, as well, I'd just make angle brackets and rivet/bolt/screw 'em in like you posted, Ec.

Is welding an option? If so you can just cut the end of the piece(s) you need to add to the same angle you need them to end at to they set flush against the frame you already have and run a bead at the joint.

Combine the ideas here..
Get a right angle bracket, and bend it out to the angle you need it to mount at, then bolt/screw/whatever-floats-your-boat together. :)

If welding is not an option, You can still rivet or bolt it together without any added pieces. Simply split the end of the angle Aluminum along the corner (just a bit longer then the side rails width), then use a pair of pliers or vise to bend the tabs to the proper angle so that they lay flush to the side rails. Then just drill your holes and mount. If there is any material that sticks above the rails after it's mounted file it flush.

With the pieces cut and held together, heat up a piece of plexiglass and drape it over the corner. Cut and trim to whatever shape you want, then pop-rivet together.
Make a plaster cast and use liquid acrylic to make custom mounting blocks.
Buy some steel corners used to protect corners on furniture like trunks. Bend/hammer it out. Maybe mount it under the aluminum L-channel?
