View Full Version : I wish they would wait until after GOW2 is released before they do this

I remember reading about that in a magazine last year, but I forgot about it, until I read this.

Same here..

Anything that could potentially destroy the universe probably should be done OUTSIDE the known universe. Just my thoughts.

I don't think that a few months is enough time to retreat to a safe distance...

I agree with both of you.

well if we all get blown into a million billion bits, we know who to blame

They'd be the first to go.

Before they detonated the first underwater H-bomb people thought the seas would evaporate and all ships would fall to the floor. Before Chuck Yeager's voice was heard saying "It was hell getting through, but once you get past it (the sound barrier), it's smooth sailing" people believed the sound barrier was a physical phenomenon that could not be crossed. Personally, I say to hell with it, flip the switch and see what it does. There isn't a single one of us that isn't going to die one way or another, and if it is from a home grown black hole or time paradox at least it won't be a boring way out.

I agree with you totally Jon! Lets all be pulled apart! (wait....NVM I DONT WANT TO BE RIPED APART INTO A MILLION PEICES) But your right flip the switch and lets see what will happen. It could be very very bad or It could be the most amazing thing though we might have a endless and clean source of energy for life.

I really hope the LHC ends the world.

In an entertaining manner, anyways. I want to watch the end of the world on AfterlifeTube.

I think I would rather have an endless supply of clean energy, lol. Actually, we do: Solar. We have a giant fusion reactor in the sky that supplies us with tons of energy, we just have to find a way to efficiently collect it, lol.

There are several of these "Hadron Colliders" throughout the world.
As far as I know they are already in use.

Every article I have read about them has included some type of ridiculous world ending theory.
If I remember correctly one person stated the Higgs Boson would disappear, or create a black hole the would suck the entire earth inside it. Now its a "Time Machine" Pffft. .

Give me a break. If they were even remotely dangerous enough to kill even one person some form of government would be all over it like flies on a **** pile.

I think its all about the publicity, a Stunt.
Billions of dollars have been spent building these things. Without knowing exactly what the outcome will be or whatever mystical knowledge will be gained from what it produces, if anything.

Here is a ridiculous theory of my own.
Being that this Hadron Collider is made of 1600 superconducting magnets weighing in at over 27 tonnes. I think it is more likely to upset the axis at which the earth spins, or cause some sort of magmatic disturbance and/or eruption being that the core of the earth is iron, and they have this thing buried underground.

well, I imagine any supermagnetic field created by such a device would be shielded. Otherwise, long before the Earth flipped it's axis or the solar rads bypassing the current poles...I would think anything made of metal with hundreds of miles would immediately squash together outside the front door.

i say flip the switch now... by the time they do it i will have forgotten about this again. hope they show it on TV when it happens

Its will be broadcast live. Here (http://webcast.cern.ch/) <=-

Additional Information:

The Large Hadron Collider, soon-to-be the world's most powerful atom smasher, begins testing this weekend.

CERN will fire the first test beam through one of the particle accelerator's sectors.

“It’s, ‘Let’s see what happens,’ ” Judy Jackson, head of the Office Communications at Fermilab, told Popular Mechanics. “It’s a very complex machine. This is a step towards getting ready.”

Then, on September 10th, a full-power beam will travel through the accelerator's entire 17 miles of tunnels, reaching up to 99.99 percent of the speed of light. And finally, assuming all goes well, the first real science experiments will begin some time in October.

Though the initial test beams won't be nearly as energetic as physicists hope subsequent beams will be, they mark an important milestone for the world's largest machine. It's cost something like $8 billion and taken 12 years to build it and now we all get to see if it actually, you know, works. After it's up and running, researchers hope to use it to answer some remarkably important questions about the nature of mass, dark matter, and the earliest moments of our universe.

And people thought the world would end on y2k, and the H bomb would destroy the atmosphere, its a particle collider, its not gonna cause things that we have no evidence of even existing.

Ok. So lets say there was a containment breach. :D
It is a 17mile network of underground tunnels reinforced with concrete,
maybe there will be a blowout? Hopefully not.

Don't you love how everything is going to cause the world to end? Next thing you know, the earth will burst into flames from smokers lighting up at the exact moment as millions of cows and sheep simultaneously pass wind......
