Most likely that is a proprietary connector that looks more like it would be for the power. I would bet the reason they are untested is these are just the lcd portion and do not include the controller that actually drives the lcd. Kind of like the old reoccurring discussion about using a laptop screen in a pc project.

ahhh the infamous "laptop screen in PC project" illfated and over-rated.
I have a burned out laptop that I would love to re-use in a project, the plan is too strip it out of the case and build the whole laptop into the project just to use the monitor.
Problem is the laptop has a faulty power circuit so turning it on and keeping it on is the challenge.

not sure what the name of this connector is but the 2 wires connecting to it are to power the acctual screen. you could most likely take the pins out of that connector and reterminate them in a connector of your choice.

Cannibal is right.. that connector is the power for the inverter, and possibly the lcd too. The actual video signal would be input through the flat connector on the back of the LCD.
www.earthlcd.com is a good site for custom LCD controller solutions.
