wmp11 and external hdd

hi, i want to back up my music using windows media player 11 - ive found that when i plug in my usb pen drive it recognizes it and i can sync playlists to it, when it transfers the music it organises it all in folders for artist and album. i want to do this on a external hd but it never recognises it as a portable device in wmp - is there anyway to make it work in wmp?

also second q - is it possible to write an iso using wmp and daemon tools et al eg to write to the hd instead of a disk?
