Hey guys, Ive been meaning to get a new backpack for school lately and i would like one that is somewhat nice. I'm not looking to go overboard w/ a hundred dollar backpack, but i was thinking it might be nice to get something other than the wally world special for once. I want some that is moderately large and most importantly can carry a laptop. At the moment my laptop is pretty small and useless, but in the future i might purchase a macbook. I think that's either 13 or 14 inches. I also want something tough. I tend to tear things apart, I don't know how the hell it happens, but it does. I want something that will last me a couple years. If it has a spot for an Ipod that's a bonus, but not a necessity. Anyone know of any reputable brands? Anyone have a backpack that they can personally recommend? I figured there is probably a lot of students around here, and I'm willing to bet a lot of you rock laptops. Feel free to post up your opinions, pics, reviews, etc...

Thanks
Lucius

Look for an LL Bean one, they're awesome. I've had the same one for about four years now.

EDIT: They're a little expensive but if it falls apart they'll replace it for you.

I currently use a Targus Backpack I picked up at Wally world. Has teh traditional 3 zipped pouches, plus it has 2 zippered pouches on each side that are perfect for mp3 players. The front pouch even has a headphone hole to so you can even put it in the front. I took it on a trip back to MA and it survived security and being mushed under the seat in front. Most of the time I have my laptop, power cord, mouse, keyboard, PSP, DS, Ipod, extra batteries. Its prett comfortable when wearing for long periods. I think I actually saw more of them on an end cap at my local store. I'll see if I can find them on the web site.
Here we go (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7694649).

May I recommend a Peel P50? It's got plenty of room and even enough space for someone like a girlfriend and your laptop.

I use one of the targus ones and they rock for what you pay for them. The next one I buy is going to be pricey.they had them at best buy. they are made by victornox.the people who make the swiss army knives.everyone of the starps and stuff was steel cables covered in clear plastic.sturdy as all get out.

You had me quite confused for a few minutes there lol.

Ill check out the Targus bags when im at work this weekend. I think we have them in both the back to school section and Electronics. I had looked at them before but wrote them off since they were at wally world. But i suppose if it works and since i get a discount Ill check it out.

I also saw the bags by victornox at either best buy or my local sporting goods store. They looked pretty nice. I forget what the price was though.

Keep the replies comin guys. I'm still open to suggestions.

Your girlfriend is probably a Gnome if she can fit in a Peel P50 with you.

I have a Targus backpack and it's served me well. Laptop + notebooks + power cords and stuff + calculator, pencils etc = good fit. But if you get hot and wanna put your jacket in it, that's another story.

The absolutely best backpack I ever owned for a laptop is one I got from winning a modding contest. It's right here:

For $60 it can NOT be beat. Best deal evah. Strong, padded, and black. tons of pockets, cell phone holder on the strap, has not broken or torn in 5 years of tough city/camping/traveling use.

The BFG bag looks pretty nice. I'm gonna look in to that. I'm thinking fifty to sixty for my price range. At the moment i just can't fathom spending 100+ on a bag as nice as it would probably be.

Also, this brand seems to be pretty popular on newegg, so i may look in to one of these as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2030260482%2050009774%201296619363&name=WENGER

Trust me, if you don't like the BFG bag, I'll buy it from you. ;)

Although outside of your price range, I'll throw this into the mix. TragerUSA.com

The bags have a lifetime guarantee for defects. I used my Courier bag for about 5 years and then upgraded to a transcontinental bag about 3-4 years ago. They've performed flawlessly in a variety of harsh locations like Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, Siberia, etc in both the field and office. It's cliche to say but I honestly wouldn't use anything else.
