Rush (the canadian progressive rock band) Recorded the track "Malignant Narcissism" with a borrowed bass and a borrowed drum set. Geddy Lee was using a bass that Fender was letting him try out, and Alex Lifeson had already shipped his drum set home, so he built a 4-piece (presumably bass drum, snare, hi-hat and a tom) drum set for the song. And you'd probably never guess it.

When Iron Maiden was on their Number of the Beast tour (in which they received a lot of criticism for being "satanists", where the truth is that some of the band members are born-again christians and the song is a warning against satanism), their tour director got in a car accident with some Nuns in London. The repair bill for the Nun's car was 666 pounds. The tour director refused to pay 666 pounds and insisted on paying more.

The ridges on those coins were put there during the depression when the metal used on the coins would be shaved off and resold. The ridges helped prevent the coins from being tampered with.

The phrase "the third degree" is commonly used to describe a harsh interrogation such as "boss is giving him the third degree about where he went during lunch". Although there are earlier uses documented, it is mainly known and used today because of of The Free Masons. In becoming a full ranking member of The Masons, you must pass three trials, the 1st degree is called an Entered Apprentice, the 2nd is Fellowcraft, and the 3rd is a Master Mason. Traditionally, the applicant was deeply investigated and mercilessly interrogated before gaining each level of rank.

About me....I'm a Master Mason ;)

yep. and thats why you can't wear regular contacts at night. they'll dry out your eyes because the cornea isn't able to take in air.

that also explains why my right eye (the one i wear my contact in) starts to dry out and itch after about 16 hours.

Hehe...if it's anything like the Moose Legion initiation...it should be a damn good one!

So how do you go about joining anyways? Just go up to a Mason and say you wish to join their ranks, much like with the Loyal Order of the Moose?

BTW, I'm a Moose Legion member.

You must seek out a Mason from the lodge you want to join (or just go to the lodge and ask the first guy you see) and simply ask to "receive the light". He will then forward your request to his lodge's higher ups, they will ask to have a sit-down informal chat to find out why you want in. After that, you will set a date for your first session. It's very hush hush so I cannot tell any details, but it's a bunch of fun and very interesting. When you have your initiation date make sure to let me know so I can be in attendance. Once you have been accepted by the Masons, you will have the ability to enter ANY Masonic lodge in the world (and we are in nearly every country). Absolutely no one can enter the lodges without being a Mason. One of the presidents, I think Eisenhower, got the secret service very pissed off when he decided to visit his hometown lodge meeting and none of them were Masons so they were forced to leave him at the door and wait outside.

On Spirals

The Archimedean spiral: The locus of points on the spiral rotate and migrate at constant velocities. expressed as r=a+(b*theta) where r=point on the spiral, a=rotational velocity, and b=migrational velocity. The spiral has 2 theoretical arms, one for theta > 0 and the other for theta < 0. one arm is shown below:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/jdbnsn/misc/archspiral.png

uses: scroll compressor (shown below), static (load-less) design for watch springs, diagnostic tool for physicians to measure the degree of tremors (by asking the patient to draw such a spiral), used in DLP projection systems to minimize the "Rainbow Effect"

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/jdbnsn/misc/scrollpump.gif

The logarithmic spiral: First described by Descartes, this spiral has been discovered to exist throughout the natural universe. It's emergent properties are numerous and many of which are difficult to explain. But it's essentially the same as the Archimedean spiral except "a" & "b" represent geometrical progression. That is to say the rotational velocity and the migration from the center accelerate with time. Also, in the former spiral, you can trace from one arm back to the center and reach an origin, but the log spiral can be traced back infinitely and you will never find the origin. If you apply the "golden ratio" to the parameters, you create the famous "golden spiral" seen in nautilus shells, arms of the milky way, blood vessels of the cornea, flight patterns of hawks homing in on their prey, etc... The golden spiral can be approximated by the Fibonacci sequence(1,1,3,5,8,13....) for variable "b".

Oh man. The same thing happened to me. I was 9 or 10 and this 16yo girl that went to my church came to my school on my birthday and gave me some presents. At the time I didn't think much of it, just that it was a little weird. But thinking back on it now, it was super creepy.
