Oh the joy! Ever since we've actually gone to ADSL2+... we've got lot of drop outs (sometimes once every 15 minutes) so I've been monitoring it for the last few weeks and trying to do everything I could to fix the problem. The interesting thing is I managed to catch a dropout while checking the status:

Capacity Used: 100%/100%

Output Power: 20.0 dBm/12.5 dBm
Attenuation: 32.0 dB/17.0 dB

Header Errors: 13/0

So much fun....

I had similar issues for quite a while and here is what fixed it. Check your wiring connections for the DSL starting at the jack at the wall all the way to the outside junction box. Make sure you undo them then retighten them.

I have also found staples that went through the cables as well. Make sure you securely tighten all connections. You can also replace the regular line with CAT 5 if you can afford it, not necessary but nice...

Also almost forgot make sure your wires are not the foil wrapped string type. That is super cheap and worthless if it is might as well upgrade to the CAT 5..

Well, there one interesting thing, the pillar (which is up the street) gets an SNR of 7.5db. Telstra will only support you if it goes below 6dB (which it does on a regular basis). Got them coming again this afternoon.

I used to work on a helpdesk supporting ADSL.. heres what I can tell you.

If you have more than one phone on that line, try removing it to see if it gets more stable. Next, how long is the phone cord to the modem? Try to keep it as short as possible.. less than 3 feet is ideal... you can use a longer ethernet cable if you need.

Try to avoid using a splitter on the phone line feeding the modem also. Oh, and lastly, can you try the modem on another phone jack?

Internet in Australia fun. We have ADSL 1.5. Make sure your have line filters. We use a central filter and that fixed a lot of our problems.

We have 1 ADSL2+ filter(installed by Telstra when they heard we had a ADSL1 filter). The line is longer than 3 feet, however, when doing an isolation test (with a cable about 3 feet long), it made no difference. There is only 1 jack for that line, it supplies both phone and internet. From the jack, it's connected to the ADSL2+ filter. From the filter, the phone goes to the wireless phone system, and the other modem port goes to the Cisco 857W.
Modem cannot be tested on another jack.

Have you tried removing the filter, and connecting only the modem directly to the jack? We found many problems with cordless phones causing noise issues and occasionally disconnecting ADSL modems.

If it has problems, I'll run a line from the modem direct to the jack, last time I did the isolation test, the SNR was worse.

I think the main question to be asked is, why are you getting ADSL2+ with telstra? there are SO MANY better deals out there..

I wondered that when my father signed up a 2 year contact. When the contract is up, I'm moving to something that's double the download limit, and same speed... for about half the price.
