TGS Contest - Design My Business Cards - Printed!

This is my contest and has no bearing or reflection on TBCS or its staff. You must be a member of TBCS to compete. Everyone can compete, even staff.


Design My Business Cards

I need new business cards because my old ones don't have enough info. Here's my old design:

More and more people have been asking me for my card, because I tell it like it is and don't lie. I also, don't bend people over and empty their wallets like so many others in my field. (See other post in chatterbox)

To be frank my business cards are elementary, boring and need a serious facelift. That's where you come in. I need you to design my new business cards!

The winning designer gets a 450 Watt PSU and Microsoft Office 2007 (a $400 value!)


Here's the winning formula:

1. The winning design must be business card size (when I print it out)
2. Any images and designs are released to my custody upon your submission
3. You can submit more than one design, but no more than five.
4. All entries MUST be posted here, in this thread.
5. You can edit your entries as many times as needed until the end.
6. The cards must be professional looking
7. The cards must not have any reference to TGS or Satan
8. The winner will be picked by me.
9. Contest ends on Oct 1st!

Where are you having them printed? Most places will recommend at least 300 dpi.

There is no official logo, it's just something I threw together in a pinch. Surprise me.

Okay, seems Imageshack resized the last one. That ought to do it now. I also added a bit of lighting to the PC ModHouse text. If you want to count that as a separate entry so be it.

For the record, I didn't create that computer image. I got it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Computer-aj_aj_ashton_01.svg). But it is in the public domain, so there should be no issue using it.

Ok, I'm not REALLY posting an entry, as i want to build on Acey's design, but I have the following suggestions that would make this design EXCELLENT.

1. Instead of the plain sans-serif lettering, try some letter punch-outs or similar (kinda like on dog tags and such). it will help a lot. The typography needs a little sprucing in any case. There's also way too much information on there. Cut down as much as possible (even make the text smaller)

2. I also suggest that you make those 2 painted on screws paper rivets (i don't know what they're actually called), those things that have a round top and are made of metal and hold paper together. it might also be cool to have that middle bit attached like that so it swivels around.

3. I suggest you get these made out of light plastic instead of card. it will make the whole thing seems pretty sleek. I think the "past present future" and the bit up the top about pcs for all is kind of superfluous. It's not important information, and it makes it look too busy.

Anyway, they're just suggestions. I'm not being unfair to anyone, this isn't my competition, but if Satan really wants new business cards, I'm happy to just offer advice :)

TGS: You mentioned a contest to redesign your splash page I think? One of my few areas of experience is marketing, publishing and design. I would thoroughly recommend that you take Aceys' design of the business card and base your new splash page on the same thematic elements, colours etc.

Cymae's ideas to simplify the card were good ones and Acey incorporated them well.

Sticking to a "corporate theme" however small your corporation may be is very helpful and reassuring to customers. Design consistency shows mind/organisational consistency and people pick up on that subliminally, if not consciously. I for one, when I visit a poor and incoherent/inconsistently designed website immediately hear alarm bells in my head.

Just a thought but maybe you could throw the business card in as the base for the design brief for the splash page?

It still pays handsomely to have a consistent "corporate" feel across every media through which the public can access your services. Business cards, webpages, letterheads etc. And Aceys' design elements would make for a great homepage.
