Hi all, this is my first worklog! This pc is for my brother, so that we can go to a LAN together. Not sure when the next LAN party is, but its at least a month away. My brother took inspiration from a case he saw on ebay. So, we copied the side cover and put it on the top of the build. Here are a couple of Sketchup shots.

http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/014.png
The project started with a bit of a problem. We opened the box with the jigsaw in, went to put a blade in, and the screw that holds the blade in place has dissapeared . So, we had to make do with this.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/007.png
So, with no jigsaw, we set to work.

Here's a teaser for what we have planned.

This is what we had for a source of music.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/009.png
Sorry about the blurry image. It's my brother's MP3 player. We took it apart, and we were going to make a custom case for it, but it didnt turn out as planned :dead:.
Thats all for my first work log. Should be another update tonight!

A leatherman saw blade. That looks like it was fun... NOT. Looks great so far, and idea looks like it will come out very nicely. I'm gonna have fun watching this thread.

Yea, I was just looking at your Karbon Kreation build. Cardboard...lol! I guess we make do with anything in the modding business! Cardboard and leatherman saws! Should hopefully get a new jigsaw soon. Save me a lot of time and hassle.

Leatherman saw. I don't think I would have had the patience for that. +rep for the shear determination to mod.

If I had done this two years ago maybe! I didnt even know about TBCS then! Before TBCS you say, thats like the stone age to me! Hopefully I will be getting a new jigsaw today. Woolworths look out, I'm gonna raid your tool section today!
Bophor, thanks for the rep. I dont think I would had enough patience by myself, but I got my brother to help with the project, as the pc is for him ;) I think he did more than half the sawing.
I think I'm gonna change the name of this build from LAN box Blue to something else. Anyone got any ideas?

OK, time for the next update, bit lengthy I know.
Lining up the plexi for drilling holes into the top panel. (Plexi from another tower.)
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/015.png
The plexi with the mesh glued behind it. Still detachable from the wood.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/016.png
Testing what the mesh looks like on the side panel.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/017.png
Glueing the mesh to the other side panel. You can see some tubing in this pick, guess what it's for ;)
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/018.png
Here's the top and bottom panels after the first coat.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/019.png
Here's the paint I used.

The feet off an old DVD Video combi machine thingy before being sprayed.

One of the side panels finally attached to the base. (Glued, the metal is to come.)

The other side panel waiting to be stuck on. (After I put the metal on the other panel.)

The feet ready to be stuck on.

The pump delivered by Novatech this morning. People who read the Rookie's Nook will remember my question about the pump. Turns out, that I need to mount it in my resivoir.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/026.png
OK, I have to mention someone here. My brother went to school today (instead of skiving like he did yesterday to finish this mod :)), and asked the tech teacher if he could use the buffer to sort out the metal work that is next in this project. The buffer wasnt working, as they had moved it to a new room and hadent wired it in yet. So, my brother was allowed to bring home a file for the night. So, I've been told by my brother to big it up for the D&T Teacher at Attleborough High School!
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/027.png
And some more good news. I got my new jigsaw! It's from woolworths. £7 something I think. Shame I dont have anything left to cut on this project!
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/022.png
Sorry about the dark pic, my camera's flash aint too good.
Only the metal work, the feet, mounting equipment (like PSU + Drives), and the front and rear panels to go!
This case will be finished by the weekend, so, I will have all weekend to think of my next mod :)
Oh, two more things, my brother has created an account on TCBS. It's called tbulmer. And, I'm not sure on the hardware at the moment. The only hardware I have is an old 800MHz AMD with an AGP port. I do have a 1.8GHz P4, but neither the motherboard, or a 24+4 power supply at the moment. Will buy new hardware as and when we can. Should be something like:
AMD athlon 2.x MHz (Maybe an X2)
1GB 667MHz DDR2
I'll lend him an 8600gt out of my SLI setup for the moment
40GB Seagate Barracuda IDE Drive (scores 4.9 in Vista, so not so bad)
I have an MSI K9VGM-V MB spare, but no sound, I blew the onboard sound by plugging my 75W guitar amp in and turning up the volume a bit too loud!
I will also have to find him a PSW as well.
Well, thats it for tonight, should have another update tomorrow night if nothing goes wrong (you'll find out soon enough if it does.)

Another quick update before I go to bed.
Another problem with the pump. Turns out that it is a 230V mains pump. Should have guessed by the thicker wire. I didnt get the chance to put 12 volts DC through it, I looked on the side and it said 230V. So much for me running it off a molex. So, I hacked the power cable off that DVD player I mentioned earlier, and connected the wires.
Time for some pics.
The two side panels stuck to the base.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/028.png
Some fans that I have decided to put in the front panel. They are only 40mm, but I will probably 7 volt them anyway.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/029.png
Some of the metalwork for the edges of the case.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/030.png
The top of the case, cathodes, fan cover, and the two remaining panels.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/031.png
The power supply I used to get the size of the hole for the side panel, and the pump that I've had problems with.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/032.png
Another shot of our workspace.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/033.png
And finally, our spraying space. It's up above where we work. If we angle the doors properly, it blows the fumes straight out the door. Free ventilation! We have to stand on the ladder to paint, and it's high enough without the paint fumes!
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/034.png
I wont be able to do very much work on this tomorrow during the day, as my brother WILL be at school, and I'm gonna look at some courses for a college. Will have to pick up some more of that metalwork for the case, and some insulation tape for the cable hacking I mentioned earlier.
Now I'm off to bed to dream about my next mod!

nice woo go tech teachers mine let me bring home some gears today for the solar powered car we have to make :)
AMD Killa

You should put a PC in it, and run it off the solar panels :)
DonT-FeaR
09-05-2008, 09:55 AM
i want to but the solar pannel we are going to get are only like 2volt each so i would need like 1000 of them lol its gunna be fun... ill load pics when i finish it
AMD Killa
09-05-2008, 01:48 PM
But you only need 12 volts, it's the current that you shouold be worried about. A 550W power supply uses a 5A fuse in the plug, so it wont be more than that. Would still be a lot of solar panels, as each solar panel produces only a few milliamps, if I am right in thinking..

OK, I know it's been a while, but I've had some problems. If you have a little sister, NEVER let her near a mod. She broke the tower in two when she got in a strop when she couldent get her bike out of the garage. So I have been set back about a week repairing the damage.
Might do some new stuff at the weekend, like sort out the wiring for the pump, and the rest of the panels, but I'm fairly busy with college now.

I did some work on this thing today. Managed to get the pump working. I was expecting it to run on 12 volts when I brought it, turns out I had to wire it into the mains. My brother made up a solution of water and food colouring for the pump to, well, pump. Dont worry, it isnt going to be used for water cooling, just to look cool in the case ;) I just have to do the back and front panels, then find a way of attaching the top panel and equipment. Stay tuned.

Update: We put some glitter in the resivoir, so that there is something to look at other than blue tubing ;)
I have some pictures, but I dont have time to upload them at the moment.
Look out for them ;)

OK, time for another update.
EDIT: Sorry about the picture sizes. I didnt have time (couldent be bothered XD) to resize them)
The side fan all glued in. I glued it because it's a 130mm fan, and can't really use it anywhere else.

Before putting on the front panel:
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo002.jpg
Here's the resivoir. Rep+ to anyone who knows what it's made out of XD

Another shot of the side fan with the metalwork on show.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo005.jpg
Finally managed to get the front panel on.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo013.jpg
Here's a side shot of the piping.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo008.jpg
Here's what we used to fill the resivoir.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo010.jpg
We drilled a hole in the top of the resivoir, filled it up, then covered it with a 5 pence piece, and glued it down.
The case with the top on (mock up XD)
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo018.jpg
Some of you might have noticed a new worktop under the case. Here's a couple of shots.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo016.jpg
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo017.jpg
I mentioned my grandad earlier in this thread. He made this desk in two days, with no help! Me and my brother are astounded. He's nearly seventy XD. Me and my brother added a few things to it, but the base of the desk and the vice clamp was all his work. Fits perectly in the small amount of space we had spare. We added some spare metalwork from this project onto the vice clamp. Just drilled through the metal, then tacked it into the wood.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo029.jpg
We needed to find out how big the hole to be cut out on the backplate needed to be. So, I put in the risers for the motherboard, put the motherboard on them, then got a rough measurement, which was then modified with a ruler XD.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo340/amd_killa/MoDiFy/Photo015.jpg
Another shot of the motherboard. It is a MSI K9V of some sort. Thats the one I blew the onboard sound on XD.
Well, to conclude, We have painted the backpanel, and all we need to do now is attach it, then do the metalwork for it and the top panel, then the hard drive mount. Then it's a matter of buying the hardware, installing it, then finishing touches (and swearing at mistakes XD).
