This is my monitor (http://viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/e2series/e70fplussb/index.htm), which I absolutely love. I would prefer a LCD (2, actually), but my monitor is fabulous. Great color, and it features the one-button UltraBrite feature, which switches from somewhat-dim Everyday Use setting, to the 3x brighter Gaming setting, to the 5x brighter Video/DVD setting with one push of a button. Flat-screen CRT, in silver/black, with very very vivid color (I am a graphics designer, so clean color and good white/black ratio is critical).

And it's only about $180.

There may be better out there, but this is the one I use, and I adore it.

Again, I recommend the ViewSonics. They do have 19" and 21" monitors on that same site.

Although, I am pretty biased.

hey if ur looking for a hardcore 100% gaming monitor then dont go an lcd becuase i am not sure wheather or not u know this but if u look at say a catalogue with an lcd in it it will have a number like 12ms 24ms 8ms or 4ms they are the usual numbers this is response time the lower the number the faster response time. why does this matter u say? becuase a slow response time could mean a "ghosting" effect when things like fast movie video and games are playing which can get really annoying. coincidentally i baught a new 4ms samsung lcd screen yesterday (which is the fastest available response time) theres not much ghosting if any i hold this accountable to the 4ms response time any higher and the ghosting becomes very apparent i know because i looked at ALOT of other lcds in the shops and tested a few of my friends and family. the problem with just saying fine ill get an 4ms lcd is usually theres roughly a 100 dollar price jump from 8ms to 4ms i purchased mine for 395AUD and highly reccommend it but to avoid all this "ms" numbers and ghosting problems and to get the best bang for buck go the crt specially since they are dirt cheap now the only reason i baught an lcd is because i move my pc around alot and having a monitor i can pick up with one hand is very handy :P. so in summary lcd = nice if u pay alot, beautiful colours. crt = best bang for buck, no ghosting problems. anyway sorry for the long post i just thought this might help and sorry if u knew all this already lol btw my monitor is 17" SaWBLaDe.
