LoL..Ok this is gonna be fun. It's a "Lets see how many friends we can get to vote for our mods to be in the running for final judgement" contest.
Bleh. Already Doom 3 and the other folks from TBCS are in the negative numbers. It appears as if only the people who submitted mods are the ones voting so far, according to the voting results. LMAO!!
One case there is clearly a stock pic taken from Newegg, and nothing has been done to it--AT ALL. So much for the screening process.

Man, I only saw one mod with positive numbers. Both of ours are in the gutter. We've got to team up TBCS!!
That contest is effed up. I counted 3 or 4 cases that can't be considered a mod unless you count LED fans. I voted for D3, TGS, and TD. (D3 hit 0 after my vote). I dig the mod with the ALICE frame, but cmon.. if you're going to enter a contest, make sure your pictures are in focus.

Here is a point to consider... there is only one mod that was in the positive... everyone else is negative.... and I am sorry if I open the can of worms, but seeing as I already had words with the supposed "top vote getter", I am willing to bet there is a substantial "nuke everyone and build me up" campaign for him....
But I *know* that this site has peeps that would be willing to vote.
And Crim... you are right. I think 2 of the mods are just ads taken from other sites!
So... TBCS, REPRESENT!!!
You can vote once a day, through the 25th and you can vote + or - for each mod.
And the main thing to keep in mind... is that the top 10 go to the next round. The judges settle it after that, the votes have no sway after this round.

Its pretty obvious that Morsecode is cheating like a mofo. He was negative for a bit and then magically, in the course of a few minutes, his case went way up and everyone elses went way down. I love voting contests....

I voted for all of my TBCS peeps. I used to frown on the whole vote trolling thing, but it seems clear that they aren't working hard to develop a quality system to judge actual merit. So until they do, I guess I might as well try to help my friend get some free hardware.

Contest online voting period ends September 26, 2008 to determine the ten (10) Finalists.
After the ten (10) Finalists have been determined during the Voting Period, judges will determine the Grand, First, and Second Prize winners based on criteria set forth below. Judging will take place on or about September 29, 2008. The judging panel will consist of marketing representatives from Dell, Intel, and GMR.
So it is unlikely the stock PC case will win.

Yeah, I see the trailer park inbred trash is at it again, wasted another 50+ votes to knock me down some more. Thats ok. They must need a PC more than I do, they might have to sell it for crack for their mother. You guys want this so bad you can have it....... Since the admins on here dont seem to care that we have a cheater in our midst, so vote me down all you want and I hope your inbred family enjoys what you win out of cheating, thats most likely how they brought you up in this world anyway. Trailer trash usually dont have good morals or any virtues..... and you just proved it here. If this is how modders are in the modding community... Im glad Im not part of any of it. Write what you want in your little modders forums and slander me all you want, I wont loose any sleep over it. Bad publicity is better than none.
So is there any admins watching this????

Crimson Sky

There is a flaw in the voting script that allows people to cast as many votes +/- as they want in a single day. Hopefully the admins will see this and discard those multiple votes on the IP address level and bring in the real numbers..
..It would be nice to see those contestants disqualified who have exploted this flaw, and voted multiple times in one session for themselves, or against others. There should be an IP log of this in the data.
This MorseCode person was put on the chopping block, since it was his mod that had the only positive numbers when everyone elses were near -100. When wind of the scripting flaw got out, it was a free for all in neg votes for everyone, and the trend continues.
TheGreatSatan

Dell/Intel need to do the voting themselves, then it'll be fair.
i like the fact that were all borg apperently!
See, this is the reason why public voting in these types of contests is a really bad idea. Someone always gets their panties in a bunch.

Why do people always insist on holding mod contests that determine the winner via public voting? The best mod inevitably gets trumped by the most popular. At least it's only for the first round.

You know, now that I've taken a closer look at his picture, I mean down to the pixel level, I see very miniscule and subtle differences from the actual Kandalf. I think what he's done here is an incredible job of recreating a stock case. So incredible in fact that nobody could tell the difference! He essentially built a case from scratch, using his l33t modding skills, and made an exact replica of that pre-mod. Then set up his camera at the exact same angle, matched the lighting perfectly, took the picture, and submitted it. Outstanding work in my opinion, and totally deserves to be in the semi-finals with his amazing replica Kandalf mod!

Its pretty simple really. If you want to win, you don't want good cases in your contest so logically you try to vote the best ones out (ie D3) and with the voting power that certain people had in the competition, it would be very easy to do.

MoDShop was another insult to modders everywhere. The editorial staff at that ran the place did not give a flying rats ass about anything creative, except when it had influence on their bottom line.
The biggest mistake in the ExtremeModding contest was the fact that there was even a thumbs-down button. Why have it at all? If you don't like the mod, don't give it a thumbs-up.

Unless I'm violating the TBCS rules, (and that's completely possible) please refrain from closing threads that I started...
Keeping an open dialog about how the INDUSTRY has both lifted up and taken advantage of case modders is very important.
Case in point:
Every single innovation in mass produced computer cases over the last several years owes a case modder out there respect. Our designs have been ripped off with impunity. If I was to show you folks some case mods and designs from 1998, you would be amazed how many of these elements are in today's designs. Did we get the credit? Nope. Do we really care? I don't personally. Most of it is plastic crap from China, like the CCFL's from 2001 that used to burst into flames after a few hours.
Don't think for one minute that I'm affraid to speak out against these companies when they have on occasion, treated case modders in a less than desirable manner. We invite you to share your stories.
Why didn't Intel/Dell send moderators to their Contest forum? Because it was poorly planned and abandoned from the start; a marketing tool used to promote their bottom line at our expense. And when the dogs started fighting and the fur was flying, did they care? Nope. They didn't even bury the bodies. Heck, might as well have put the heads on a stick for 60 days. Even Michael Vick buried the bodies.
It was only when I wrote a strong letter to Intel marketing that they were made aware of the scripting flaw in their voting. I told them my next email would be to the media people I know personally at several tech magazines and newspapers. This is the only language PR people know, and I speak it fluently

Case in point:
Every single innovation in mass produced computer cases over the last several years owes a case modder out there respect. Our designs have been ripped off with impunity.
Well then, either start taking patents out or STFU.
Seems like the logical approach.

Patents anywhere on the planet are not honored in China. And if you're going to paraphrase my quotes and tell me to STFU, have the decency to include my final thoughts on the subject. I said I "personally don't care" .

this is true about hte patents thing, look at all of the POS knock-off scooters, mini bikes and 4-wheelers coming out of China now, its awful. People buy them because they're cheap and look just like the name-brand jap stuff, then realize they're crap and bring them to us to fix them. We say "sorry but we cannot get parts for these units" and they leave wondering why they didnt just get the proper stuff to begin with

I actually thought the same thing. Even if you could afford a patent or patents, you would also have to make it detailed enough so "they" wouldn't be able to find a loop hole or back door to your designs or something like that. It wouldn't matter in the end anyways because someone somewhere will still rip your designs off and you might not ever be none the wiser about it.

Congrats to Eck and Greensabbath! Hopefully you actually get some prizes!

Haha.. thanks guys. I was hoping to draw someone out, but it's all good. Anytime I've left negative rep (which has only been 2 or 3 times I think.. if that) I've always left my name as well. In fact, whenever i give positive rep, I do the same. :)
