I've never burned a DVD and now that I'm trying it doesn't want to burn. I've tried +R and -R with no luck. I'm just trying to burn files to it and not a movie. Do I need to use Nero or something for data? I thought I could just highlight everything I wanted and right click, send to the DVD drive just like CD's. And yes I do have DVD burners; 2 of them.

You most likely do have to use Nero or something similar. I do have to say though, do NOT buy Roxio, I tried using that a couple years back and it didn't work worth a crap.

The DVD drives should have come with an OEM software program, probably Roxio or Nero or something. If not, you can usually find a tossed out disc from someone else's new DVDR drive. :)

With XP or Vista, agreed.

I just remembered I burned some home videos or something to DVD and it converted the format and all for me. So I am assuming that it should work.

With Vista, yes DVD burning out of the box should work. XP itself doesn't have the ability to burn DVD's as it does CDs.

You have to use a separate program in XP to burn a DVD. You can NOT just copy files to be burned to the DVD then click "Write these files to disk".

XP didn't have integrated DVD burning capabilities, only CD.

That's what I was looking for. Does Nero have a DATA option?

I would recommend Nero Express 7.
You can download it Here (http://www.brothersoft.com/nero-express-59639.html).

You can run multiple instances. It uses a minimal amount of system resources.
I have found it to be the simplest, and fastest data burning software.

Almost all of the new DVD Burners are compatible
with both DVD+, and DVD- R/RW Media.

What is the model Number?
