Funny, I just did a check from our distributors and a 16gb kit (2x 8g) is ~$2500. New.

You could buy a car for the price of that RAM. It is much cheaper on overstock.com, around $2800. The overstock price is still more than I paid for my first and second cars put together.

It was a SuperMicro motherboard. Dual xeon, 64gb memory limit ( assuming you could find and afford the 16gb dimms).

Our customer is using it as a head end to a document indexing and searching farm. Most likely the indexes will be stored in memory for fast look-ups. The customer is actually pretty close to Paul... I have been trying to justify a "Customer Visit" to their operation center in the Bronx.
