Hi guys,
I am totally new to the pc modding field. But hey, I have to start somewhere right?
Ok, here it goes. I'm putting together a new pc for myself and planned to actually do something to my case so its a bit more "me".
I was originally posting/asking for advice at a fellow member's forum/website about painting tips. Thanks heaps to the guys at Theairbrushforum.com. And Commando reffered me to this community stating that this is where all the case modding ninjas are. :)
I'll be getting my case in 2 days time and have decided to come up with a industrial-scene gone wrong with blood splatters and smears all over the place. I happened to think of this idea because I find that the actual case it self has an industial feel to it.
Here's a link to ithttp://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&id=5363
From the Coolermaster site.
Since I am a total novice, I had planned to just do some simple paint job on it to improve the original black color of the case. Was thinking of "blood" on a white background.
What do you guys think? Any simple mods I can do to this casing to improve the project and my skills?
Thanks a lot.

It sounds like a great idea.
If i were you i'd do a mockup first. Draw it out with pen and paper and decide exactly how everything's going to look.
It's important especially with an idea like this because you want it to look awesome, and not just paint slapped onto the case. Blood spatters are done in a very particular way. If you are going to do it to your case, you will want to first decide WHERE is the blood coming from. if you plan to have it on multiple sides, you should still work out where the blood is spraying from. maybe draw up some angles on paper. This will give it a feeling of someone splattering blood accidentally on your case.
So, in conclusion, draw up some drafts. Make pics of your case and decide where the blood's coming from. Also consider the paint you use, and take a look at the color of blood, you don't want your careful work spoiled by a color that's almost right but not quite.

Welcome to TBCS!
It will be interesting to see exactly what you have in mind.
I really dont know what you mean by "industrial-scene gone wrong"
. .you mean like saw blades and fingers on the case?
You got anything sketched out?

Yes, Something like that..haha..altho i have no idea how to do it. haha.. I'll take some pics of the case once i get it and show it to all of you, ok? :)
More like either the desktop itself is an industral tool where somenoe chopped his fingers off or the desktop just happened to be next to an industrial tool where someone chopped his fingers off..lol
Like Cymae suggested, I was thinking like slattering blood on the desktop from a certain angle.

I would browse the internet for various Halloween props.
I found a set of realistic looking severed fingers. Here (http://www.glowtex.com/mobster.htm)

A motorized blood blade reservoir would be awesome. :D

also jsut to add some stuff in here working in an industrial area I see alot of stainless steel and/or diamond plate. you might want to head on over to http://www.mnpctech.com/casemodstore.html and check out some of the film they sell. I ahve ordered the diamond plate for a case mod I ddi for a friend and the stuff is nice.

wow, that is one sweet case to start your modding career . It barely needs modifying, it looks amazing already. Like you said, it does look very industrial. I really like what you have planned for this mod. +subscribed

Thanks.
I called up the shops and they said they accidentally sold the case they were keeping for me. On the basis that, the guy who took my reservation didnt inform the other staff about it. STUPID!! GAH!
Anyway, tomorrow i am gonna go to this other place to get it.
Thanks for liking the idea. Hope you guys dont expect much from this project. Its just gonna be a paint job.

by the looks of things, that case wont need much more than a paint job. If you are looking for that industrial look, it's pretty much there already XD. Cant wait to see the paint.

Hey guys. Here's an update on my paint job idea.
I've placed an order on the casing. Will get it on Monday, Just one more day of waiting. Decided to not do any mods to it.
I live in a city apartment and on the 30th floor even. The only place I have to paint is my small balcony. Fine. No problem. I taped news paper all over the balcony floor, railings/fence, and part of the windows as well. And started practicing splattering some paint on metal panels or paper/cardboard etc.
However, there's one problem. Thanks to my caring neighbor who obviously minds her own business [/end sarcasm], my landlord has been notified of what i have been doing :( And within minutes I got a knock on my door. lol. I was given a warning to not splatter paint around and such. BUT he is kind enough to let me use aerosol spray paint as long i put the panel on the floor when i spray it. He's just afraid i might splatter paint on the upper part of the walls and ceiling as i swing my arm up. Fair enough.
So here's my question. know any splattering technique i can use that doesnt involve me swing my arms around? :(
if not, I would have to scrap the blood idea and do a stencil/masking paint job :(
PS: I saw my neighbor peeking at me when i was standing on the balcony today. WITH HER CELLPHONE IN HER HAND! damn it

I'm thinking you might be able to use something with a spinning disk and a small pan of paint, lower the spinning disk into the paint and it will throw it all over... and get a shield or something to go over the top so that it is more controlled.
And as to that awful neighbor... ignore her. Do not even acknowledge that she is there. She's just doing that to make herself feel better in some way and it most likely will not work, especially if you succeed without getting paint anywhere.
I would recommend making a cell phone scrambler to piss her off but I think that is illegal, lol. (I actually wanted to make a portable one while in high school because all the people with their phones were annoying.)

Probably a stupid question, but why don't you do it outside where you can't get paint all over the walls? If you don't have a backyard, go to a park or something and do it in the grass..

Hi, the out in the open idea was something I did think about. However, on April 2008, the stat of Victoria, Australia has passed new grafitti laws.
Here are some examples of these laws,
These ones are new graffiti laws for spray paint cans
You CAN BE charged an on the spot fine of $550 if:
1.You are near public transport with a spray can
2. If you have a spray paint can on you, or in your bag, car etc
3. It's no excuse that you weren;t going to graffiti. [ This is what I hate about some people, they always think you are guilty till found innocent]
4. Its an excuse if its for work but you'll have to prove it [ie. employer etc]
These ones are for graffiti implements [ie anything that can be used to graffiti such as stencils etc besides spray paint cans]
You CAN BE charged with the offence if:
1. You've got something that can be used to graffiti
2. "Graffiti Implements" can be anything used to graffiti [paint, stencils, etc]
You CANNOT "graffiti" on property visible in public places nor in puiblic places themselves unless you get permission of the property owner. This includes writing, drawing, PAIINTING or scratching anything that can't be removed with a dry cloth.
I got these from a mix of the state's justice website, the police station and another youthlaw website.
I love Melbourne but damn, stupid state law :(

LOL.. stand out there with red paint splattered all over your clothes, to make it look like blood, and just stare at her. When she notices you, wink at her. :D Then put your finger to your lips like "shhhhhh" then walk away.

I think you are taking that a little too seriously. I mean, if the laws were that strict, you would not be allowed to but spray paint from the store. Because you would not be allowed to take it home. Besides, if you do it in the grass, it meets those terms, as it will be gone when the grass is next cut. if your'e that worried, put down some newspaper.

it says "without the owner's permission," so it seems as though you can do it on your property, but I'm sure that they could still get you for it, if they really wanted to.

On anything that can't be REMOVED.
He is going to do his PC case, which he is then going to remove from the premisis. Sounds fine to me.

Oh well, I'll just do it on my balcony.
Anyway, red on black or red on white? I am leaning towards red on white but I am afraid painting the case white would make it lose its industrial feel
Cymae
09-28-2008, 07:50 AM
you are not going to get an industrial feel unless you do something other than spray it one color and splatter it with red.
That being said, red on white would give that tarnished innocence look...if that's what you're going for.

Shame about those tough laws. I know that graffiti is bad in most cases (not pc towers XD) (I have seen some that was good XD), but I think there should be some slackness in it.
I love Luke122's idea. I guess I watch too many horror films XD.
Instead of flicking the paint, you could place the panel flat on the ground, then hold the brush above it, and let the paint drip. I know you wont be able to make it look like it was from an angle, so that might not be the best idea.
Hope you sort something out. There are plenty of modding genius's on this site to help you out XD
why not dip a brush and then flick it either gently, or run your fingers over the brissles?
PS. Lukes idea is the best yet!

*blush*
Thanks guys.. I have a way with people. ;)
As mentioned above, dripping paint on it could work... hold the panel at an angle to get some splatter-ish effects.
Also, if you want to see what blood splattered on white would look like, hit up http://www.tokyoplastic.com/ and check out their site. That's part of their design. :)
