http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/jdbnsn/worklogbanners/grind.png

Hello, all this will be my first worklog of any kind please lol be patient .
A little background i have been hanging around modding forums for a while now .
I havent been active on the modding part so here goes lol .

The story behind somewhere to grind is i Have what is called the "Man Room ",
Which is wife for all your crap goes here lol, well i was going to mod in this room well .
When my wifeheardthe dremel the first time that was it lol.

My free time is at night and she gets up at 3:00 AM so that just wasnt going to work well with me working in the cabinetery bussiness and, the economy being really slow for me.

A large shop is out of the question now so my neighbor had a cube van box that is 8X 18 for $350 so i bought it and got it deliverd for $35 So i have basically $400 in it right now this is where the story or mod begins ........ any comments ,tips or Constructive criticism thanks in advance . I will post start photos as soon as i figure out how lol.

I'd add some ventilation--those things get damn hot during the summertime.

Air vents and fans. Only words I got for ya man. Maybe a nice picture here and there... lol jk :P

BerticusPryme
09-27-2008, 06:05 AM
dude that is awesome. Yeah i agree some fans in the top for ventilation would help alot and maybe one a tthe front jsut to circulate it. Hell maybe I cna come out there nad help ya with it.

FuzzyPlushroom
09-27-2008, 04:38 PM
Not bad at all, man. Doesn't really matter that it's bent up.

Get a couple industrial box-fans, agreed - don't know where you live, but if you have snowy/icy winters like we do, I'd suggest getting a couple of barn-door style doors on that thing as well, perhaps some light insulation. And for the summer, I'd recommend painting it white or some other light color.

@ TGS more like unholy crap lol
@DrumThumper,Karbon Killa,BerticusPryme lol yeah i have been working on that i will probably just go with one in front on in back of something like this
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=14549-835-531025&lpage=none
or i may go something like this

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=62506-228-WCGB&lpage=none
and i was thinking of adding a small air conditioner as well
@FuzzyPlushroom yeah i dont careif it is bent i live in alabama and you can ask BerticusPryme it gets Ridiculously hot and humid here yeah i have lined the roof with this already
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=15348-46086-15348&lpage=none
it dosent seem like much but does wonders .

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=12049-256-63-450-1&lpage=none i plan to paint the roof with this it is what they use to coat mobile home roofs and tin roofs and it helps repel heat as well

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture354.jpg

those small holes had to be fixed i have a lot of work done but have to get pics uploaded and this is my first worklog of any kind so i am trying to do the best for a first time log.
On a side note i think Vivitar and the battery company are partners lol .
Also i guess you guys saw the big spray painted for sale sign see a lot of the ripping alabamians get is deserved .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture353.jpg
it has some heavy duty metal in the floor it will take some grinding to get that weld smoother but grinding wheels are cheap and labors free mine anyway .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture352.jpg
it had wood paneling that i hoped to keep some to reuse but was to far gone and lol a joy to remove .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture351.jpg
more of the wall.
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture350.jpg
and you all though the front was bad lol see the daylight throught hte tears
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture349.jpg
this picture tells the real story when i first looked at this building it had one very very small tear in the corner . When the wrecker driver was finished all those holes were there that corner post was demolished .

The whole back wall was completly torn loose honestly you could push it a good foot to foot and a half away from the base .
I remember setting there thinking it was a loss i mean to most $400 is nothing to me its a small fortune espically in the winter time .
I bought this last novemeber but with low funds work on it when i can my neghibor lol he loves it . That day he was gonna buy it to haul it away and as the wall flapped in the breeze i said do i want to junk it HE.... no Im gonna MOD it so here and so it began .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/Picture348.jpg
once again for sale lol
I know you are all going what in the blue He..... is with the wood frame and vent pipe i wondered the same thing the guy told me he was going to make kiln to dry wood to make rocking chairs ......oh ok .
Well you can see the humble beggings i will upload the pics of the progress as soon as i can if nothing happens . BTW any and all comments and tips welcome thanks again all

I have been to Alabama in the summer and with as hot as it gets.. I think I would consider one of these instead of the fan!

They makem.. got one in our upstairs room, the only issue is they don't make them for smaller rooms, and they cost a bit more.

This one has heat..
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=89279-70213-FAH12ES2T&lpage=none

Other stores will have a better selection.
HomeDepot has this unit for almost $300 less the Lowes.

@ OvRiDe I will probably insulate it with the foam like the roof.iI am afraid the metal will sweat and fiberglass insulation would wick up the mositure and mold .
I am tentativly planning on putting pegboard Horizontally snd 7\6 osb bellow that as the walls are 8 feet tall and the osb is only $ 7 bucks a sheet at lowes may cover thte floor to help smooth it .
@ Airbozo and DonT-FeaR lol yeah i see your point my wife said no more grinding and cutting in the house . lol

Yep, I figured that the foamboard insulation would be your best bet. I wasn't sure if you were going to leave the walls just foam, or cover the foam. You might need build out the area that you mount the peg board in with some 1x2's so that you aren't pressing the back of the hooks into foam. Looks like you got a great plan in motion! Very cool!!

Killergamer's description of what not to do in a manCave.

"A modder goes into modernation thus allowing him/her to come out of winter happy. There are all kinds of modders caves from your garage to the empty old trailer. If you do in fact enter the "man/sheCave" please do not touch or disturb his/her supply's (Wiskey/beer and tools) This includes cleaning his/her work area without the permission of the modder himself/herself. He/she will be doing weird things like cutting up computer cases but this is there natural way of life. A true modder has either a dog or a cat to show that they don't just love cold metallic stuff but can show a nicer warmer side. And NOT to eat."

As if I was a tour guide or some thing ha? Any ways I'm loven this I kinda wish I had a area like that to work.

This is a differently +rep worthy!

@ Cymae my wife took some kitten pics just for you lol no kidding
Ok here goes the update

I bought this insulation the other night got one sheet just to try it out
it is 1 inch thick and has a foil backing thought it might be better than the blue stuff here is some pics of the process how i did it any way

Tools of choice
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0552-1.jpg that knife was my wifes brainstorm from hobby lobby it is made to cut floral stroyfoam it worked awesome

The foil side i think will help a lot
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0551-1.jpg
It pretty much cuts like drywall hence the T square
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0553.jpg

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0558-2.jpg
popping it like drywall
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0557-1.jpg
That knife cuts a pretty good line
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0556-1.jpg
This is installed in case you cant tell the is a cove insice the walls i bent it into was tough but think it sealed fairley well
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0561.jpg
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0560.jpg

Ok all i said i was gonna ask for an opinion or two this one way i was going to give myself somthing to attach plywood or pegboard or what ever i use.

For a wall i have some screws ordered from McFeely’s to help with attaching btw Square drive screws are awesome .

second way would be easier to put the the insulation in
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0563.jpg
Way 1 way two you guys are inspiring me to push onand really appreciate the help comments opionins and questions welcome

here i have cut some of the blue scrap insulation i had to fill in the voids
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0610.jpg
And here i used the foil duct tape to hopefully help some
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0611.jpg
here is what i put to help with the wood i used for a backer to fix metal on outside
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0605.jpg
there is the particle board i used to make the outside wall i didnt get any work pics because i was pressed to finish before dark

A small update

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0614.jpg
this is the 1x6 i added to the edge of the door on the right so the left door that will be opened more will have something to rest against .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0630.jpg
Here it is attached to the door sorry for poor pics batteries were almost dead got what pictures i could .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0624.jpg
Then i added a 2x2 that i had to hand plane down because nothing in the building is square really but had no way to take pictures of the process

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0615.jpg
These are the screws i used they are square drive from McFEELY’S they are the best screws i have ever used i hope to stay away from philips if at all possible .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0625.jpg
Finished or close have somethings to work on but getting closer to what i want .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0619.jpg

I know this is a very bad picture but i couldnt get it right there is a gap there aas you can see or i hope you can . that i couldnt get a lot closer. Because of how that part of building is made so with the help of the wife we put this backer rod in there .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0620.jpg

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0619.jpg

Then she had what i thought was a great idea i was going to put aa board over all that then she came up with puttingthe scrap insulation i had left over .
On top of backer rod and caulk and then i will but a board over that should help with stoppin the breeze and cold .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0622.jpg

Then i caulked all around the decking and other places but thats not exzactly interesting hope to have a better update soon if nothing happens .

Lookin' good!! +rep

On the screws, I agree Phillips screws are awful. Square drive are great but I've found a brand here at my local Ace hardware that are Torx drive. They've got a drill point, nibs under the head to help countersink, and even little teeth between the threads. They are awesome. If you've got a bit long enough and a drill strong enough you can use a long one to screw two 2x4 boards together and the screw will actually pull itself completely through the first 2x4 and leave a hole the size of the screw head all the way through it. They're pricey but worth every penny.

cool thanks ,will have to look into those

I have a question for the construction minded of you guys as you can see im not much of a carpenter lol .
Im jsut doing the best i can with what i have i have a couple of questions for you all

1 .
ok on the inside where i put that white insulation it has foil on the other side .
Do you all think i should but a vapor barrier like 6MIL Plastic Sheet on top of the insulation and then put my wall covering up.
Which will probably be 7/16 osb or just put the osb on top of insulation .

2. Should o run my wall braces vertical or horizontal
im leaning vertical im not planning on pputting a lot of weight on the walls but will store some thing if nothing happens i will try to play fallout 3 while i await a reply lol thanks in advance

BerticusPryme
11-13-2008, 01:53 AM
I would vote with the vertical option also and as far as the vapro barrier I would do it especially if you are going to have any type of electrical out there. as a bonus if there is a hole somewhere and water does manage to get it it will keep it contained and away from the electrical. I may be wrong but all that is how I would do it.

Liquid_Scope_99
11-13-2008, 02:27 AM
Good point man about the electrical and thanks for the vertical vote .
Glad too see you around i havent been on as much through the week as usual .
I dont know about you but im about ready to start the heaters just waiting on the gas man to come sometime lol .
BerticusPryme you know about the humidty around here better than anyone
I may run the electrical through conduit but , i want to keep the moisture and water down to as little as posssible so im gonna go with the vapor barrier.
Between the foil on the other side and the palstic on the inside should do pretty well . The doors have helped a lot . Hows your mods coming ?
Thanks again

LoL i couldnt have said it better myself after a pretty productive day yesterday i was pretty phsyked to work on somewhere to grind .
Also codenmaed : Man cave 2.0 I even went at about 7:30 pm to lowes of course in the rain to get supplies to work on it today .
I was planning on getting up real early and getting started and a few thing happened.
1. My wife woke me up at like 5:30 am when she was getting ready to leave for work and could bareley talk and said she couldnt breath ,her chest was hurting ,and her arm was hurting and she was wezzing awful .

Seeing as how i lost my dad 10yrs ago to an unexpected heartattck i freaked
Needless to say we made it to the hospital very quickly on the way for a min
she wasnt moving or talking ,and wouldnt respond to me .
That was probably one of the worst few min of my life in a while .
Well thankfully and hopefully when we got to the hospital
they did a ekg ,a chest xray , the normal stuff well thank goodness the doctor said it was Asmatic bronchitis dont get me wronf thats better tha na heart problem to me .
They gave her a breathing treatment and she was doing much better very soon .The doctor gave her like 3 meds and she seems to be feeling better .

I am very thankful and feel were very bleesed even with my work situation
right now ,I know a lot of us will or are felling the pinch thats what i love about this community i love the modding worklogs ,that everyone seems to enjoy my attempt at a worklog .
I can come on here and thing off my chest lol on a lighter note .

After we ate breakfast on the way home .

My wife suggested i work on the shed she too kthe cough medicine the doc gave her and was sawing logs like 5mins later lol .

2 . i covered the stuff up wwith plastic when i ogt home last night to my suprise it was dry this morning . Well of course as Bert put it so well mother nature did not play nice today the thing i planned to do were for outside .

It was suppose to be dry today and cold well it was raining and cold .
I couldnt work in the rain on that stuff plus hanling 4x8 anything in high winds is always good times lol. So i moved everything in that would have got wet .

3 well that left me like no room inside to work on anything i had a little insulation from a project were doing in the house left so iwas going to put that on the wall where the doors are of course i came up short .
I didnt want to open another pack and come up short in the house .

4. So i had a can of foam insulaton in the house i said i wll just use that do some touchups.
Wait till next weekend to do what i was going to do today wont take long
just needs to be dry well i put the straw thing on the insulation and pressed it nothing happned pressed again it snapped off at the can lol i thought ok
so i tried holding it on to use what i coulf wish you could have all seen that lol mess.

5. i said well with the wife sick im just gonna call it a day mother nature was on the scene anyway will do it next week if nothing happens right im sure we have all been there just step back and reavluate the situation .
6. So being what a good husband i think i am since my wife was sick she even made lunch .
I did the laundary ,and folded finsihed the dishes ,swept ,vacumed ,but up the clothes after folding them just did the house work for today the kicker is lol right about when it was to late for me to start my outside work lol the sun comes out and stay out the rest of the day lol .

Well after the way my day started i still feel blessed ...........Hope to have a real update soon thanks for letteing me tell about my day just neeeded to get that out lol . hopefully if budget and mother nature permits i will have an update pretty soon if noting happens .That was just a peek at the man behind the mod so to speak . lol reading me bable what a joy .

Also when i run the electrical underground i would like to run a cat5 or 6 cable if it put them in there on seperate pvc pipes there shoiuldnt be any interferance right ?

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0612-3.jpg

some trim piecies i added just to help a little

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0613-2.jpg
this is what i had to contend with just to get to working on the inside .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0606-3.jpg
this angle stock was donated by a friend to i used it for backstops at the top of the doors he even drilled it and countersunk it with his drill press thansk again man .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0610-3.jpg
of course mother nature is at it again .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0608-3.jpg
how thick it is

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0609-3.jpg
installed also i put some 2x2 behind the door for stops on the back and to help seal from wind and rain but forgot to take a picture.

I wasnt going to put anything on celling to cover the insulation but , i thought i want to make it as nice as possible there will be modding and some hobby woodwork ,planning sessions ,maybe gaming sessions and watchingh the ocasssional ball game .

So i went browsing some salvage supply stores i found some paneling i liked it looks similar to diamond plate or i think that what they were going for lol.

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0619-1.jpg

here i added the 1x2s so i could put screws in the celing wihout putting holes in the roof .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0616-2.jpg
Here i broke out the mancave namesake to grind off the rivets of the old track the door ran on .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0618-1.jpg
the track i was talking about .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0623-1.jpg
after i grinded the heads off i just had to take a drill bit to it just a little the tracks popped right off .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0617-3.jpg track are gone .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0625-1.jpg
first one installed i only have one left and i wll be done will post upthe the picture of that later if nothing happens.
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0595-2.jpg
also i filled the voids with some scrap insulation we had leftover from some work one the house every little bit helps cant afford to waste anything thats all for now hope to have another update with celing finsihed if nothing happens hope you all enjoyed it . Eveyones support is greatley appreciated .

ok all finally an update

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0612-4.jpg

as you can se here there was nothing to attach the walls two for about 2 feet so i added a 2x4 i planed down to give me something to screw it too.

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0610-4.jpg
I used this to attach it to the building so i could put bolts through on the other side ant i wouldnt keep falling down and be cock eyed it worked amazingly i dont know how well it would hold under stress but it held up great . for my needs .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0613-3.jpg
im kind of jumping all over the place i got all of it insulated and i cut my time down by over half i cut a peice of paneling down to the size i needed in the walls .

A peice of 1\4 to cut the recessed parts in between i finished in about an hour that was taking forever only wish i had thought of this long ago.

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0608-4.jpg
This is how im going to do the braces for the back wall.

I was going to dot he sides the same way but they neeeded extra bracing i thoguht running the wood this way would help more plus it is a lot longer than any 1x4 s i have .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0647-1.jpg
This was a christmas present form my ife that helped me a lot

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0633-1.jpg
I used this tool to drive the screws in throught he oak and into the metal i used drywall screws made to go into metal studs that selfdrill

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0636-1.jpg
What keeps me going and my sugar from bottoming out i tend to work non stop when im working on something and for get to eat .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0649-1.jpg
i took some scrap paneling fom the celing and finished the front wall it will have pegboard over it anyway
so it didnt have to be perfect .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0640-1.jpg
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0642-1.jpg

Since those boards are 10 to 12 feet oak they eould be pretty hard to hold up and put a screw in at the same time so i would put a couple in spaced out close to where i needed them then rest the boards on the

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0631-2.jpg
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0630-2.jpg
this is what i ended up with .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0651-1.jpg

then i did some work outside on a couple of spots i was tempted to try to get the old taillights from the bed working but were in bad shape i didnt really have the money for new ones .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0653-1.jpg
first i cut some patches from crap sheetmetal .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0654-1.jpg
Then i used some more of the griplock stuff.

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0655-1.jpg

then i went with the window flashing .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0657-1.jpg
after some of the roof patch tar like stuff i but the reinforcement mesh and more tar
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0656-1.jpg
i did that on all the sides that needed it .
all comments welcome .hoprfully i am making ground if noting happens iwill start onthe walls and floor soon.

wow this thread rocks!! makes me want to start building a simple shed that I could use. but I really REALLY want to build an actual shop, with a pit for some mechanikin. that would be sweet. alas, money restraints. I dig the old box truck idea, would be sweet to make a mobile modshop/mancave! I used to deliver furniture and when we would go on 4+ hour road trips I always wanted to bring a generator or ac converter and set up a tv / fridge in the back of our del. truck! + rep for sure!

This is a small updte but an update none the less with me being laidoff this comin week i should have some time to work on Man cave 2.0 even if i dont have the money lol

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0662.jpg

Here is some pegboard my father-in-Law donated to the project its is really
appreciated I will probably only be doing the pegboard on the front and back
walls .
With me anyway i find that i just pile stuff on top of stuff and cant find it anyway .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0664.jpg
I cut these 1x2s into 10 inch strips to hold the pegboard away from the wall so i could use it

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0667.jpg

Then i screwed it to the wall

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0669.jpg

then i attach the pegboard to the 1x2 strips .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0674.jpg

Here it is all hung up the roof of the right side is warped some thats why there is a gap there i can massage it some and make it fit a litle closer but i will put trim anyway just dont see the need really lol i have bigger things ahead i hope anyway .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0670.jpg

Here is how i plan on doing the walls i had some scrap thought i would see how it looks i will paint the particleboard. I mean it is 7\16 think and its only $5.70 right now i csnt find anything that strong for that price . I hope to have
a more substancal update soon i if nothing happens .

I want to thank you guys for all the support and comments it really keeps me motivated . Btw all sugesstions and tips welcomed and appreciated

Well here i am with another small to medium update since i learned yesterday that i am getting another week off lol .
Lucky me but i know its tough everywhere and i can work on the Man Cave 2.0 and some projects on the house . Also im blessed i can draw unemployment and the wife is still getting 40 enough about real life though .
Sorry i do this from time to time i ramble a bit but its helps to vent some i beleive .

On with the update
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0681.jpg

Here i finished the back wall running the 1x4's to attach the wall too .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0682.jpg

Here i added plastic as a vapor barrier I do have a question i thought about because of moisture and there being real high humidty here i thought i might should use tar paper as a vapor barrier instead of plastic any opinions or suggestions.

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0683.jpg
Here i added particleboard to the bottom which is what the walls will be i will paint them the Man Cave will have a theme of sorts .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0687.jpg
Here s the pegboard installed i put the paricle board up first to have some thing to rest the pegboard on i left a gap at the top because i have somethign to add to that later .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0681.jpg

When i added the horizontal bracing in oak i beleive it will be plenty just in case i want to add a cabinet or something i want to add some supports this is how it was .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0690.jpg
i cut these 1x4's for support to add some strength and palces to hang things .
I know that probably over board i put like what seemed like 200 screws in last night lol , but i figure better to be safe than sorry .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0691.jpg
the right side i only went halfway down but i think i may go all the way to the floor i wont hang anything that low for sure but thought i might as well any thoughts i can get the wood free or really cheap any suggstion ?

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0678.jpg
Also i mentioned last update about massaging things into palce this the tool for that lol. Hope you all enjoy remeber all your support is part of what keeps me going along with my wife . Any and all suggestions tips and recommendations appreciated hope to have another update soon if nothing happens

If you got access to an overhead (think the ELMO's back in highschool .... you younger guys may have never seen them but I'm sure Scope knows what I mean :) )

I can print a full color logo on a over head sheet and mail it too you...
Then just trace the logo onto the side and paint in the colors.... It's like making a big mural for those of us that can't draw big :) (me)

I think pretty much all of us have seen them. But now ELMO makes these ones with a camera that plug into a TV or projector. Some teachers at my school still use overheads. You can even buy them from the teacher direct catalog (my mom gets it).

Scope that's The one!

Mind,

Most of the schools seem to have projectors tied to PC's now or "Smart Boards"
So I wasn't sure if the younger gen had used them before. Heck, most schools got rid of the chalkboards for "White boards".

LOL thats one of the advantages to having a Neighbor that has a backhoe lol .
It isnt very deep but deep enough to run the pvc and wires and some cat6 and rg45 and maybe a phone line im going to try to put all i think i will ever need .
Im not an electricabn by any means but i was thinking of running a 8-2 from a 60 amp double pole breaker then splitting the 220 of at the building for my lights and receptacles .
I wont have a lot running at once or pulling alot at once i dont think i would like too have a meter set but thats isnt in the budget for now anyways any elctrical he lp greatley appreciated .

Airbozo man you wouldnt beleive the rain we have had latley we had a bad drought around here last year now its raining like crazy .

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0698.jpg
This update dosent look like much but it was a lot of work and a lot of broke drill bits in my wake .
The screws i used were self drilling metal drwall screws i also tried another type but the OSB would walk up the screw and break the drilling point so i found that if i drilled the OSB to about the same size of the screws it helped a lot.
The bits i found that worked the best in that diamond plate was dewalts split tip cobalt driil bits i also used these screws too.

This is looking awesome, although once its complete you should bury it and have an underground mancave. :D

Liquid_Scope_99
07-06-2009, 10:28 PM
lol now theres a thought that would also help with the extreme heat problem i wonder if i could some how brace the rofo to hold the dirt hmmmmmmmmm.......
That would be cool no kidding if i could keep the roof from caveing in lol .

msmrx57
07-07-2009, 08:01 AM
If you didn't go to deep you might not need to reinforce it too much.

Liquid_Scope_99
07-07-2009, 10:34 PM
No kidding that would solve a lot of my heat problem when i get it done i may look into it .

blueonblack
07-07-2009, 11:29 PM
I was thinking the same thing. Just a couple of inches of soil on top, put something up there to keep any serious weight off of it (don't want to drive over it), the roof wouldn't need much reinforcing but corrosion could be a problem.

billygoat333
07-08-2009, 01:53 AM
...then it would be a REAL mancave. :D

Liquid_Scope_99
07-08-2009, 10:18 PM
i was thinking if i could get the building deep enough i dont know if this would be possible i could run say a sheet of steel or something over it put the dirt on that .
I know of a house not to far from here that is underground wonder if they would give a tour and shoot the bull about it lol .
I guess i have Three chocies if anyone has any exprience or expertise please dont hesitate and even if you have no clue ( Like Me ) go ahead as well .

Option one
Leave building as is build up dirt around it veru thin on top lol maybe add some kinda of small roof structure .

Option Two

Dig lets say trench like 3 or 4 foot deep and 18 to 20 ft long
then build up around that .

Option 3
Would be like say 7ft deep 20 long almost whole building underground
but it would take some kind of excavating to make it accessible talk about
yard crashers .
Oh yeah on a side note i was talking about it last night with my wife
I wish there was a smiley face for the face i got Im sure all the married guys
Here have got that look before lol . it was priceless.
I will keep looking into this is if nothing happens i dont know how far well get i need to finish it first .

A less extreme idea might be a green roof

blueonblack
07-09-2009, 03:11 AM
I was just thinking that you wouldn't have to bury the whole thing, jusy dig out a hole half as high as it is, put it in place and use the dirt you dug to build up sides on it and cover the top. I like the metal-on-top idea, but something more resistant to water woudl better I think, a big sheet of fiberglass, maybe? Curve it on the top so it sends the water to the sides...

Not as impossible as it sounds, really. Sure would help with the climate control. And you'd have a storm shelter, too. :) They have tornadoes down there?

Liquid_Scope_99
07-09-2009, 10:45 PM
That sounds like pretty close to one of the ways i was thinking i dont know if my neghibor would want to dig that deep for me but i think the local tool renatl place rents backhoes for about $250 a day at tax time that wouldnt be too bad plus i get all day with backhoe
Yeah the weather gets pretty rough sometimes thats for sure . Nice idea

billygoat333
07-10-2009, 02:27 AM
yeah I like the halfway idea too with the dirt on the sides and top. make a nice hill to play golf on too. put the green on the top of the hill and practice your chip shot! lol.

just doing a green roof wouldnt be too terrible, just throw a ladder on the side. then you could do a garden of flowers, veggies, or herbs too.

I worked on the Man cave 2.0 this weekend i took a step back to hopefully take two forward lol
Here is the disclaimer what the man that did this work did is an idiot do not i repeat do not do this at home he is a grown man .

Who knew better but was in hurry no wonder his back is bad he should have found some help what he did was very , very unsafe he is not good he was lucky lol .
Ok enough of that i took the pegboard on the back wall down i like it but i find i always put to much on the hooks and cant find it anyway so i did this

which this should help with storage the dumb part was see the jacks holding it in place .

Basically i had to slide onto of the base cabinet then lift one side up put the jack under the repeat then hold against the wall while i screwed it down very dumb of me also i had to load it on the truck out of our storage building by myself.

Then unload it lol that sucked It was a display cabinet they had when i started the like 16 yrs ago.
They gave it to me so i thought it has helped get a lot of stuff off the floor and out of the way i am going to really try to work on it.

I need some where to work on motor head Thanks all for the support .

It just came to me how can any self respecting man of southern decent not post a picture of his Truck or his dog but post pics of kittens and i call it a mancave lol so here goes i really need a better camera and to take some time to practice

A update i dint do a lot to the mancave this weekend i did some cleaning and organizing .
I bought something a couple weeks ago didn't really have the money well ok i used the plastic but, It is something i think is really needed i know i am cramped for space and This worklog will be on going after the cave is finished .
I plan to build somethings for it . What i bought was this
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0056-1.jpg

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0059.jpg

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0059.jpg

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0070.jpg

It will be perfect when i need the space i can roll it out also i can bolt my dremel drill press attachment to it .
Also when i get well hope to get Benchtop Drillpress ,Grinder,Scrollsaw so it should be very helpful since it slides i can cut plexi with the miter saw .

I was wanting to wait till i got it wired to do anything else but i think every little thing i can get done will help in the end .
I know before i as k this no one is responsible for what i do but me .

Is there anyone that is an Electrician or Knowledgeable in wiring i have some questions if you dont mind pm me if you had rather do that than post it here .
Thanks all hope to have a more progress update soon if nothing happens .

billygoat333
10-12-2009, 01:43 AM

I can do some simple wiring, lol but nothing too extensive

Liquid_Scope_99

yeah that was a birhtday present from my wife it being a "10" sliding compound Miter Saw for $200 it is Great it is a Kobalt if you cant make it out .

I have used the $600 dewalt which a better saw no denying that and "12".
This will do all i need even has a laser sight at our Lowes there on sale for $175

raistnox
10-15-2009, 09:50 PM
nothin wrong with kobalt they make some great tools but i do have to agree that i prefer dewalt ive got the 18v xrp cordless drill and d@*& that thing is nice

Liquid_Scope_99
10-15-2009, 10:51 PM

billygoat333
10-16-2009, 01:57 AM
dewalts are amazing tools, very high quality. but yes, you def. pay out the ass for them. :p ryobi are nice, I have been using my dads cordless porter & cable set lately, and I have to say the drill and the sawsall both work awesome.

I saw that Lowes started carring them i was wondering how the were .

If you dont have a lot of storage space like me this is the Werner version of the little giant ladders this thing is awesome http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=78463-287-MT-22&lpage=none

Its a little heavy but you can use both sides make a scaffold all kinds of stuff instead of having like 5 ladders i hate climbing those extension ladders the way they sway this on isn't as bad .

i really wish i had on of these when i was lugging around all that OSB and plywood and stuff

http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Gripper-44010-Panel-Carrier/dp/B0007TYCA8/ref=pd_cp_hi_1

He didn't bother anybody or anything i came home one day and he had been swimming in the creek behind the house and it was pretty cold out .
He seemed fine .
It was awful because i thought he was just being lazy as usual when i threw the ball to play catch he didn't move oh that sucked at least my wife wasn't home at he time .
I don't know if the swimming did anything there is a guy down the road who drives 50 plus on a dirt road he has been responsible for more than on pets untimely demise around here .
I am afraid our house ca may have to be put to sleep too i hope not my wife bottle feed her . Till she was old enough hope she will be ok thanks again guys

Well guys it has been a long ,long time since i have updated Man Cave 2.0 .

I just needs wiring and the floor covered with starting my lawn care service getting it going or trying to has taken a lot of my time i have saved enough to start the wiring think.
I will still use it for more or less what i intended.
I also have another project call it like a phoneix rising Man Cave 3.0 or Man Cave redux.

I guess to steal a saying "GO BIG OR GO Home"

Here Goes as usual all coments welcome

hey guys need an opinion i am stuck now that i have two buildings i can either run off the breaker box on the house.
I can run wire underground to buildings i seriously doubt either will ever pull more than 50 amps at any given time . also i can run basically a mobile home 200 amp pole to one building then pull both building off that hand it will costs $15 a moth if you never use it .

I think it would be better that way instead of trying to run off house .
what do you guys think thanks again still going to finish little building hopefully start after Christmas may even do a tile floor it will be fore office/man cave/ gaming /finish modding /building may give it a facelift on the walls as well

I would run the separate service for them just for the piece of mind. Electrical safety shouldn't be taken lightly. The shop I share with my dad has 30 amp service to it and I don't have anything that draws more than 15 amps and still occasionally trip the breaker.
