View Full Version : Somewhere to grind.....

09-26-2008, 11:35 PM

Hello, all this will be my first worklog of any kind please lol be patient .
A little background i have been hanging around modding forums for a while now .
I havent been active on the modding part so here goes lol .

The story behind somewhere to grind is i Have what is called the "Man Room ",
Which is wife for all your crap goes here lol, well i was going to mod in this room well .
When my wifeheardthe dremel the first time that was it lol.

My free time is at night and she gets up at 3:00 AM so that just wasnt going to work well with me working in the cabinetery bussiness and, the economy being really slow for me.

A large shop is out of the question now so my neighbor had a cube van box that is 8X 18 for $350 so i bought it and got it deliverd for $35 So i have basically $400 in it right now this is where the story or mod begins ........ any comments ,tips or Constructive criticism thanks in advance . I will post start photos as soon as i figure out how lol.

this after the towtruck driver did quiet a number on it

Holy crap.

I'd add some ventilation--those things get damn hot during the summertime.

Karbon Killa
09-27-2008, 03:49 AM
Air vents and fans. Only words I got for ya man. Maybe a nice picture here and there... lol jk :P

09-27-2008, 06:05 AM
dude that is awesome. Yeah i agree some fans in the top for ventilation would help alot and maybe one a tthe front jsut to circulate it. Hell maybe I cna come out there nad help ya with it.

09-27-2008, 04:38 PM
Not bad at all, man. Doesn't really matter that it's bent up.

Get a couple industrial box-fans, agreed - don't know where you live, but if you have snowy/icy winters like we do, I'd suggest getting a couple of barn-door style doors on that thing as well, perhaps some light insulation. And for the summer, I'd recommend painting it white or some other light color.

09-28-2008, 01:18 AM
@ TGS more like unholy crap lol
@DrumThumper,Karbon Killa,BerticusPryme lol yeah i have been working on that i will probably just go with one in front on in back of something like this
or i may go something like this

and i was thinking of adding a small air conditioner as well
@FuzzyPlushroom yeah i dont careif it is bent i live in alabama and you can ask BerticusPryme it gets Ridiculously hot and humid here yeah i have lined the roof with this already
it dosent seem like much but does wonders .

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=12049-256-63-450-1&lpage=none i plan to paint the roof with this it is what they use to coat mobile home roofs and tin roofs and it helps repel heat as well
thanks for all the comments and tips guys a few more pics i hope lol it gets better .

09-28-2008, 01:24 AM

those small holes had to be fixed i have a lot of work done but have to get pics uploaded and this is my first worklog of any kind so i am trying to do the best for a first time log.
On a side note i think Vivitar and the battery company are partners lol .
Also i guess you guys saw the big spray painted for sale sign see a lot of the ripping alabamians get is deserved .

it has some heavy duty metal in the floor it will take some grinding to get that weld smoother but grinding wheels are cheap and labors free mine anyway .

it had wood paneling that i hoped to keep some to reuse but was to far gone and lol a joy to remove .

more of the wall.
and you all though the front was bad lol see the daylight throught hte tears
this picture tells the real story when i first looked at this building it had one very very small tear in the corner . When the wrecker driver was finished all those holes were there that corner post was demolished .

The whole back wall was completly torn loose honestly you could push it a good foot to foot and a half away from the base .
I remember setting there thinking it was a loss i mean to most $400 is nothing to me its a small fortune espically in the winter time .
I bought this last novemeber but with low funds work on it when i can my neghibor lol he loves it . That day he was gonna buy it to haul it away and as the wall flapped in the breeze i said do i want to junk it HE.... no Im gonna MOD it so here and so it began .

once again for sale lol
I know you are all going what in the blue He..... is with the wood frame and vent pipe i wondered the same thing the guy told me he was going to make kiln to dry wood to make rocking chairs ......oh ok .
Well you can see the humble beggings i will upload the pics of the progress as soon as i can if nothing happens . BTW any and all comments and tips welcome thanks again all

09-28-2008, 01:26 AM
Looks like it will make a pretty neat shop!!

I have been to Alabama in the summer and with as hot as it gets.. I think I would consider one of these instead of the fan!

Good luck and looking forward to how this works out!

09-28-2008, 01:50 AM
yeah i was thinking abou that myself maybe i can find one of the ones with a heater built in too

09-28-2008, 02:57 AM
They makem.. got one in our upstairs room, the only issue is they don't make them for smaller rooms, and they cost a bit more.

This one has heat..

Other stores will have a better selection.
HomeDepot has this unit for almost $300 less the Lowes.
12,000 BTU (cool) & 11,200 BTU (heating).
Downside is the ones that heat are usually 220V

09-28-2008, 03:32 AM
hey + rep for the link thanks

09-28-2008, 06:56 PM
how are you going to get power to it...?

09-28-2008, 08:21 PM

here are a few pictures after i took all the plywood down

here is the start of fixing the back wall

after cutting that out sorry no pics of that
i bolted a 2x4 to the floor against the wall that was completly a way i also put one under the floor
here i added the stock to the goo part of the support pole as you can see then added the treated 3\4 scrap i had to give the sheetmetal i added for the outside something to bite into
Then on the outside i put sheetmetal and screwed it into the plywood and 2x4

here is where i added the 1\2 foam insulation to help witht he dreaded heat we all thought about . You cant imagine how much it helps for so little.

here are the other holes i patched
helpers lol
the outs ide of that corner i rebuilt
abd i also put black tar like stuff to help keep it from leaking

here is the frame i built for the doors

and most of the wood was free my next door neghinbor took down a screened in porch he had and gave me the wood i probably bought about 4 2x4 in all thats it for this update thanks for the comments all welcome well update pretty soon if nothing happens

09-28-2008, 08:24 PM
iwill probably get a temp powe pole at the power company for now but not sure how im gonna get more permanant

09-28-2008, 11:58 PM
Looks like your off to a great start!

Are you going to sheetrock the inside or cover it?

09-29-2008, 06:56 AM
i would of cut out both ends and had like a tube with and aircon and a bench but seen as it gets cold i wouldnt recomend it... lol

good luck mate :)

09-29-2008, 10:50 AM
Damn! Lot's of work to do on that thing!

Keep up the good work!

09-29-2008, 09:29 PM
@airbozo lol me to,,

09-29-2008, 11:43 PM
@ OvRiDe I will probably insulate it with the foam like the roof.iI am afraid the metal will sweat and fiberglass insulation would wick up the mositure and mold .
I am tentativly planning on putting pegboard Horizontally snd 7\6 osb bellow that as the walls are 8 feet tall and the osb is only $ 7 bucks a sheet at lowes may cover thte floor to help smooth it .
@ Airbozo and DonT-FeaR lol yeah i see your point my wife said no more grinding and cutting in the house . lol
@ Cymae let me see

09-29-2008, 11:47 PM

09-30-2008, 01:45 AM

Yep, I figured that the foamboard insulation would be your best bet. I wasn't sure if you were going to leave the walls just foam, or cover the foam. You might need build out the area that you mount the peg board in with some 1x2's so that you aren't pressing the back of the hooks into foam. Looks like you got a great plan in motion! Very cool!!

More kitten pictures PLZ!!

Very nice dude!

Turning something like that into something that is really looking nice is real skill! good job!

10-03-2008, 12:01 AM
Killergamer's description of what not to do in a manCave.

"A modder goes into modernation thus allowing him/her to come out of winter happy. There are all kinds of modders caves from your garage to the empty old trailer. If you do in fact enter the "man/sheCave" please do not touch or disturb his/her supply's (Wiskey/beer and tools) This includes cleaning his/her work area without the permission of the modder himself/herself. He/she will be doing weird things like cutting up computer cases but this is there natural way of life. A true modder has either a dog or a cat to show that they don't just love cold metallic stuff but can show a nicer warmer side. And NOT to eat."

As if I was a tour guide or some thing ha? Any ways I'm loven this I kinda wish I had a area like that to work.

This is a differently +rep worthy!

10-03-2008, 02:47 AM
@ blueonblack hey thanks a lot i hope if nothing happens it will start to look even better i hope lol

@ Ichbin hey i really appreciate it i dont know about my skill though

On topic: you said you worked on it some last night. Well
(I couldn't resist)

10-03-2008, 10:17 PM
I would be honored if you put that up in the manCave! Any ways YEA I agree with SgtM lets see some wicked pics!

10-04-2008, 08:31 AM
How far is that away from the house? If it not too far power shouldnt be a huge problem. Just run a 6mm twin cable in a 2" pipe undergrond and setup a seperate fuse board out there :)

10-05-2008, 12:54 AM
+Rep for more kitties :D

10-05-2008, 11:04 PM

10-06-2008, 05:12 PM

Er, sorry.

Say, don't forget the adjacent sign with the bare-minimum "shop rules". Gotta have these clearly posted:

(Based on this (http://flemcomics.com/d/20020319.html) [which contains naughty words], of course.)

Man, I wish our weather would permit something like this.

Also: +rep to Cymae for an adorable (and reusable) post-image-thing.

10-06-2008, 11:44 PM
@SgtM hopefully i wont exceed the bandwith lol, iworked on it and around it thursday night till about 12:00 PM worked on it friday from 10:00 am till 11.30pm and saturaday worked at the house with the wife painting some in house and my new doors
@calumc i would say it is 100 feet but i will have to measure yeah i was just thinking of running a 20 amp breaker
@ FuzzyPlushroom lol cool thats what the man room in the house looks like now lol thanks nice pic btw
@ Cymae my wife took some kitten pics just for you lol no kidding
Ok here goes the update

I bought this insulation the other night got one sheet just to try it out
it is 1 inch thick and has a foil backing thought it might be better than the blue stuff here is some pics of the process how i did it any way

Tools of choice
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0552-1.jpg that knife was my wifes brainstorm from hobby lobby it is made to cut floral stroyfoam it worked awesome

The foil side i think will help a lot
It pretty much cuts like drywall hence the T square
where it was cut
popping it like drywall
That knife cuts a pretty good line
This is installed in case you cant tell the is a cove insice the walls i bent it into was tough but think it sealed fairley well

Ok all i said i was gonna ask for an opinion or two this one way i was going to give myself somthing to attach plywood or pegboard or what ever i use.

For a wall i have some screws ordered from McFeely’s to help with attaching btw Square drive screws are awesome .

second way would be easier to put the the insulation in
Way 1 way two you guys are inspiring me to push onand really appreciate the help comments opionins and questions welcome
I also started the doors this weekend lol people love the hat i which i do to.

My doctor gave me some meds that make me sunburn very bad i know im lookin rough but i worked till midnight or 1:00 the night before got up at 7;00am.
Then worked from 10:00 am till midnight btw thanks very much to my father in law for the use of the shop and the roast lol . If you get sick easily ugly man pics ahead lol.

here i am citting the 2x4's for the frames
Laying it out
measuring themn for the 100th time lol
I used a kreg pocket hole jig to put them together these ROCK !
No glue required strong as can be , Although you cant drill into the end grain and can be taken apart if need be

the setup
Drilling the pocked holes

routering the dado to put the sideing insert in wish i had thought to get a pic of the groove
Siding cut to size

Or so i thought lol

Rinse repeat

Also thanks to my father in law who came on sunday i usually dont do things like this on sunday but , we really wanted to get them hung and pretty much mounted and he stayed till 8:30 pm helping and got a diet coke and hotdogs for his trouble thanks again man .
They are not perfect the space in the middle is on purpose i will explain when i work on it agian if nothing happens, you all saw what i had to work with nothing in that whole thing is perfect i may change them some or do a little changing here and there but im pretty pleased.
I do work in a cabinet shop but dont know anything about carpentry but i guess that is obvious comments, suggestions ,constructive criticism welcome . hope you enjoyed the update http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0596.jpg

Sorry it was dark
oh yeah i almost forgot her pics i promised Cymae i started a fire in the grill and barrell it was kinda cold thursday night it helps beleive me lol usually the cat are all over the place but i didnt see them anywhere untill

10-13-2008, 10:58 AM
Awesome job. This mod is really looking great.
I can't believe how far it has came.

And btw, I noticed about 15 PSU's in one pic, I know you don't need all those and you are feeling generous :)

10-13-2008, 06:45 PM
And btw, I noticed about 15 PSU's in one pic, I know you don't need all those and you are feeling generous :)

I think that was a picture of somebody else's that he used as an example.

10-13-2008, 08:19 PM
And btw, I noticed about 15 PSU's in one pic, I know you don't need all those and you are feeling generous :)

If you want an AT PSU that I haven't seen the cover from in the past year and a half, let me know.

10-13-2008, 08:25 PM
I might be...

10-13-2008, 09:52 PM
If you want an AT PSU that I haven't seen the cover from in the past year and a half, let me know.

And just wondering, how can you afford all those psu's?
Are you just rich?

10-13-2008, 09:54 PM
AT PSUs haven't really been used for 20 years.

10-13-2008, 09:58 PM
So what.
Many things haven't been used for twenty years, does that mean they are no good?!
What about the commodore 64?

10-13-2008, 10:00 PM
I wasn't saying that it wasn't any good... I wouldn't want it if it wasn't any good. Is it a two plug, or single plug AT PSU?

10-14-2008, 09:08 AM
I was just kidding

10-15-2008, 01:07 AM
@ phenom i hope to do a small update this weekend if nothing happens thanks for looking and posting all
I have done some work this weekend hope to update worklog tommorrow need to take some pics in daytime thanks again all

10-19-2008, 01:07 PM
here there is a recess i needed to work on to insulate some anyway

here i have cut some of the blue scrap insulation i had to fill in the voids
And here i used the foil duct tape to hopefully help some
here is what i put to help with the wood i used for a backer to fix metal on outside
there is the particle board i used to make the outside wall i didnt get any work pics because i was pressed to finish before dark
here you can see the paint messed up on the doors i painted to late in the day i will try to fix that soon if nothing happens
here is the wall i guess i can call it a building now i stll have loads of work this is basically just the decking iwll hopefully put some kind of siding or something if nothing happens

10-22-2008, 11:51 AM
AT PSUs haven't really been used for 20 years.

ATX power supplies were introduced in 1995. So, AT PSUs have not been built for about 13 years.

I've enjoyed this work log Liquid Scope.

10-22-2008, 12:33 PM
Ok. 13, going on 14 years. Close enough. I guess my dell was one of the first to come with an atx PSU.

10-24-2008, 09:50 PM
A small update

this is the 1x6 i added to the edge of the door on the right so the left door that will be opened more will have something to rest against .

Here it is attached to the door sorry for poor pics batteries were almost dead got what pictures i could .

Then i added a 2x2 that i had to hand plane down because nothing in the building is square really but had no way to take pictures of the process

These are the screws i used they are square drive from McFEELY’S they are the best screws i have ever used i hope to stay away from philips if at all possible .

Finished or close have somethings to work on but getting closer to what i want .

I know this is a very bad picture but i couldnt get it right there is a gap there aas you can see or i hope you can . that i couldnt get a lot closer. Because of how that part of building is made so with the help of the wife we put this backer rod in there .

Then she had what i thought was a great idea i was going to put aa board over all that then she came up with puttingthe scrap insulation i had left over .
On top of backer rod and caulk and then i will but a board over that should help with stoppin the breeze and cold .

Then i caulked all around the decking and other places but thats not exzactly interesting hope to have a better update soon if nothing happens .

11-09-2008, 08:52 AM
header is done

11-09-2008, 03:10 PM
Hey thanks man that is awesome i really appreciate it +rep for you sir.

11-09-2008, 07:20 PM
Lookin' good!! +rep

On the screws, I agree Phillips screws are awful. Square drive are great but I've found a brand here at my local Ace hardware that are Torx drive. They've got a drill point, nibs under the head to help countersink, and even little teeth between the threads. They are awesome. If you've got a bit long enough and a drill strong enough you can use a long one to screw two 2x4 boards together and the screw will actually pull itself completely through the first 2x4 and leave a hole the size of the screw head all the way through it. They're pricey but worth every penny.

11-09-2008, 09:54 PM
Hey thanks for the coments and the rep i hope to have another update pretty soon if nothing happens just havent had the chance to really work on it much latley thanks again i will have to look into those screws.
are they anuthing like this http://www.mcfeelys.com/spax

11-09-2008, 10:35 PM
Kind of like that, but the little teeth actually run between the threads the whole length of the screw.

HONDA FES125 PANTHEON (http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_FES125_Pantheon)

11-13-2008, 12:56 AM
cool thanks ,will have to look into those

I have a question for the construction minded of you guys as you can see im not much of a carpenter lol .
Im jsut doing the best i can with what i have i have a couple of questions for you all

1 .
ok on the inside where i put that white insulation it has foil on the other side .
Do you all think i should but a vapor barrier like 6MIL Plastic Sheet on top of the insulation and then put my wall covering up.
Which will probably be 7/16 osb or just put the osb on top of insulation .

2. Should o run my wall braces vertical or horizontal
im leaning vertical im not planning on pputting a lot of weight on the walls but will store some thing if nothing happens i will try to play fallout 3 while i await a reply lol thanks in advance

11-13-2008, 01:53 AM
I would vote with the vertical option also and as far as the vapro barrier I would do it especially if you are going to have any type of electrical out there. as a bonus if there is a hole somewhere and water does manage to get it it will keep it contained and away from the electrical. I may be wrong but all that is how I would do it.

11-13-2008, 02:27 AM
Good point man about the electrical and thanks for the vertical vote .
Glad too see you around i havent been on as much through the week as usual .
I dont know about you but im about ready to start the heaters just waiting on the gas man to come sometime lol .
BerticusPryme you know about the humidty around here better than anyone
I may run the electrical through conduit but , i want to keep the moisture and water down to as little as posssible so im gonna go with the vapor barrier.
Between the foil on the other side and the palstic on the inside should do pretty well . The doors have helped a lot . Hows your mods coming ?
Thanks again

11-13-2008, 03:06 AM
everything is going good i got all the panels back and put back on. Everythign is up and going. All I got left is detail work and then I got a few other ones I am working on. Here soon when the man cave is done i will have to take a trip out there and bring the beer to officially dub it mancave. But honestly this is awesome and much better than the mancaves of old. This is more like mancave 2.0

11-13-2008, 10:31 AM
I want one.. Are you going to have heating for the winter time, and a full bar, and a slurpee machine.. I would :D .. I wish I had a wicked freight box like that to keep my stuff in.. good work..

11-14-2008, 02:26 AM
@ BerticusPryme glad to hear mods are going well i want to start a case mod soon if nothing happens man cave 2.0 sounds cool lol hopefully want be long .
thanks for the support it really helps keep me going all i was wanting to work on it all day today and it rained all day and needed to work on caulking so that will have to wait

@ShockTheBox thanks for compliment i would like a heater like this for right now
we have a couple where i work there kinda scary but work great probablu not enough room lol but there cool like a jet enginge lol
or probably will go with this one if nothing happens
you can get really nice a little bigge than mine for about 1500
i have saw semi trailers that are like 8X48 for $1200
that small width will get old though the bar maybe i dont drink alot only ocasinally the slurpee machine which would be cool i have diabetes is a big no no for me also why i cant drink much lol . but would be nice

11-15-2008, 01:42 AM
a small update hope to do more tommorrow if nothing happens mother nature
has been causing problems as of late

Thanks to my wife for an christmas present lol she got tired of seeing me try to carry all that stuff in my hands and leaving a trail behind me .

+ rep to the first one to guess what the order of the day was .

I was getting water seeping from under the 2x4 at least that is what i think was happening so i went heavy on caulk

then i put this waterproof tape over the caulk after i had time to set some .
i put this angle flasing on top of the waterproof membrane and caulked between it and the membrane
the tool of choice or Convenience

Where i am now
used the membrane over the decking joints to help seal them
vapor barrier to gon on before siding
thats all for today thats a start

11-15-2008, 03:02 AM
That should take care of your seepage!

As some wordsmith on here said, "It's not overkill unless something dies from it." (If anyone reading this knows who wrote that originally, please let me know, I need to thank them. :D)

"It's not overkill unless something dies from it." hey thanks a lot that perfectly explains a lot of what i do i will have to tell my wife that one
Yeah it was a little overboard but you know that saying +rep for the quote sweet

11-15-2008, 09:07 AM
yes the joys of living in an area wher mother nature thinks that the humidity must be no lower than 80%. Thank you alabama good call on the moisture barrier and sealing it is really coming along quite nicely.

11-15-2008, 10:24 PM
LoL i couldnt have said it better myself after a pretty productive day yesterday i was pretty phsyked to work on somewhere to grind .
Also codenmaed : Man cave 2.0 I even went at about 7:30 pm to lowes of course in the rain to get supplies to work on it today .
I was planning on getting up real early and getting started and a few thing happened.
1. My wife woke me up at like 5:30 am when she was getting ready to leave for work and could bareley talk and said she couldnt breath ,her chest was hurting ,and her arm was hurting and she was wezzing awful .

Seeing as how i lost my dad 10yrs ago to an unexpected heartattck i freaked
Needless to say we made it to the hospital very quickly on the way for a min
she wasnt moving or talking ,and wouldnt respond to me .
That was probably one of the worst few min of my life in a while .
Well thankfully and hopefully when we got to the hospital
they did a ekg ,a chest xray , the normal stuff well thank goodness the doctor said it was Asmatic bronchitis dont get me wronf thats better tha na heart problem to me .
They gave her a breathing treatment and she was doing much better very soon .The doctor gave her like 3 meds and she seems to be feeling better .

I am very thankful and feel were very bleesed even with my work situation
right now ,I know a lot of us will or are felling the pinch thats what i love about this community i love the modding worklogs ,that everyone seems to enjoy my attempt at a worklog .
I can come on here and thing off my chest lol on a lighter note .

After we ate breakfast on the way home .

My wife suggested i work on the shed she too kthe cough medicine the doc gave her and was sawing logs like 5mins later lol .

2 . i covered the stuff up wwith plastic when i ogt home last night to my suprise it was dry this morning . Well of course as Bert put it so well mother nature did not play nice today the thing i planned to do were for outside .

It was suppose to be dry today and cold well it was raining and cold .
I couldnt work in the rain on that stuff plus hanling 4x8 anything in high winds is always good times lol. So i moved everything in that would have got wet .

3 well that left me like no room inside to work on anything i had a little insulation from a project were doing in the house left so iwas going to put that on the wall where the doors are of course i came up short .
I didnt want to open another pack and come up short in the house .

4. So i had a can of foam insulaton in the house i said i wll just use that do some touchups.
Wait till next weekend to do what i was going to do today wont take long
just needs to be dry well i put the straw thing on the insulation and pressed it nothing happned pressed again it snapped off at the can lol i thought ok
so i tried holding it on to use what i coulf wish you could have all seen that lol mess.

5. i said well with the wife sick im just gonna call it a day mother nature was on the scene anyway will do it next week if nothing happens right im sure we have all been there just step back and reavluate the situation .
6. So being what a good husband i think i am since my wife was sick she even made lunch .
I did the laundary ,and folded finsihed the dishes ,swept ,vacumed ,but up the clothes after folding them just did the house work for today the kicker is lol right about when it was to late for me to start my outside work lol the sun comes out and stay out the rest of the day lol .

Well after the way my day started i still feel blessed ...........Hope to have a real update soon thanks for letteing me tell about my day just neeeded to get that out lol . hopefully if budget and mother nature permits i will have an update pretty soon if noting happens .That was just a peek at the man behind the mod so to speak . lol reading me bable what a joy .

11-15-2008, 11:10 PM

So how well is this big hulking container going to seal. are is it insulated or no? wont there be lots of heat loss? Maybe to save energy use solar powered heaters :D

11-17-2008, 11:51 PM
Glad your wife is okay. Great progress on Man Cave 2.0. Can't wait to it finished.

Shockthebox the insulation i used is on page 2 about halfway down
I hope there wont be a lot of heat loss im working on it it is already a lot warmer working in there than outside lol

Maybe to save energy use solar powered heaters
lol on my budget lol Shockthebox i found an article on those very interesting maybe one day if nothing happens i ahve put a lot of time plugging holes lol i may try it in the future who knows if nothing happens thanks for the tip

11-18-2008, 10:47 AM
You could use that mini nuclear reactor to power it.

11-18-2008, 12:34 PM
or make an arc reactor like in the iron man movie :D that woudl be so amazing

11-18-2008, 12:41 PM
From seeing some of the Rigs posted here... You just need one of those Quad GPU Air cooled rigs in there....It should keep that place nice and toasty even in the winter :)

(I'm wishing I had a container about now!!!) Nice work!

11-18-2008, 12:59 PM
just found this today. amazing work man.

glad your wife is alright. had the same situation happen with my dad a few months ago.

wish i had a mancave to call my own :(

11-19-2008, 11:22 PM
You could use that mini nuclear reactor to power it.

lol a alabamian in control of a mini nuclear reactor lol thats a good idea .

Yeah, he's ok. Pulled his shoulder at work. When we were driving across S.D. he started having should/chest pains. Went to the emergency room in Sioux Falls and they were like, omg he's having a heart attack. Well, 2 days later we got to leave with, oh yeah, its his shoulder.

Man, what I would give to have a container like that. Looks good man.

11-26-2008, 11:07 AM
are you going to install surround sound speakers in tehre and maybe put an old laptop or system to use the net and get music :D
lookin good keep up the good work

11-26-2008, 12:40 PM
That would be sweet! I'd love to convert my shed into the Man Cave.. I already have power out there, and a desk. :) I guess I could put up all the insulation I have sitting in the corner in there, and get it sealed up nice.. :D

11-28-2008, 10:03 AM
I have a really important question .. when you are done will it be mobile.. even if that means slurped back up onto a truck.. will it still have all the structure needed to do that..( moblie man caves are even cooler then normal ones :D)

11-29-2008, 01:24 AM
@ ShockTheBox you know that reminds me i have my Home stereo that never gets used at home because my wife gets up really early i had thought of building a wood with a plexiglass front and a 120mm fan on front and back with filter material thanks for reminding Me +rep

Also when i run the electrical underground i would like to run a cat5 or 6 cable if it put them in there on seperate pvc pipes there shoiuldnt be any interferance right ?

Luke122 i say go for it it is nice to have a place to get away from it all and is lot better when it is warm hope you get the Man cave fixed up man .

ShockTheBox I dont know i have done a lot to the structure to brace it .
Which the tow truck driver did a lot to unbrace it .
I think if it was a good driver it would be ok but i wouldnt promise that lol .
It probably has seen it last ride lol

11-29-2008, 01:04 PM
aww thats to bad .. how cool would it be to take your workshop and computers with you at all times .. :P laptops dont count .. they dont have the same power and glory a desktop computer does .. but I am really loving this mod.. keep it up and finish the thing :P i want to see some action shots of you working in the man cave.. so I can feel manly lol

11-29-2008, 11:18 PM
Here is what i have been working on this week while i was off was hoping to get to work a lot but with the holiday and Black Friday sales ,helping the father-in-law some and knocking off early today to watch my Alabama Crimson Tide dismantle Auburn 36 to 0 which i really really enjoyed Roll Tide .

I got somethings acomplished one little bit of advice i can give if anyone is considering doing a mod like this work when you can no matter how little you get done keep plugging away i get discourged sometimes but i just keep going the best i can and all the support i receive here and at other forums helps a lot thanks all . Now to the update

These are the nails i used to put the sheet insulation on the outside wish i had taken a picture of the insulation its just 4x8 sheet insulation .

The siding as i was getting ready to cut it .

closeup it is called rough barnwood i love this rustic looking stuff

the first peice installed
After it was installed
lol on a liter note that innocent looking four foot ladder well i had mine sideways on my steps putting my sideing on well speed ,quickness, and grace i am not known to have lol .

Well i fell of the top of that ladder the other day i know thats not very high but the angle and what i could have fell on could have been bad well all i can say is im blessed somehow i landed on my feet but one leg was between the lege of the ladder i didnt even get scratched .

sideing painted finally i got to cover up the paint on the doors that the weather messed up .

The whole front painted.

some trim piecies i added just to help a little

this is what i had to contend with just to get to working on the inside .

this angle stock was donated by a friend to i used it for backstops at the top of the doors he even drilled it and countersunk it with his drill press thansk again man .

of course mother nature is at it again .

how thick it is

installed also i put some 2x2 behind the door for stops on the back and to help seal from wind and rain but forgot to take a picture.

I wasnt going to put anything on celling to cover the insulation but , i thought i want to make it as nice as possible there will be modding and some hobby woodwork ,planning sessions ,maybe gaming sessions and watchingh the ocasssional ball game .

So i went browsing some salvage supply stores i found some paneling i liked it looks similar to diamond plate or i think that what they were going for lol.

here i added the 1x2s so i could put screws in the celing wihout putting holes in the roof .
Here i broke out the mancave namesake to grind off the rivets of the old track the door ran on .
the track i was talking about .
after i grinded the heads off i just had to take a drill bit to it just a little the tracks popped right off .
http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/Liquid_Scope/PICT0617-3.jpg track are gone .

first one installed i only have one left and i wll be done will post upthe the picture of that later if nothing happens.
also i filled the voids with some scrap insulation we had leftover from some work one the house every little bit helps cant afford to waste anything thats all for now hope to have another update with celing finsihed if nothing happens hope you all enjoyed it . Eveyones support is greatley appreciated .

11-29-2008, 11:20 PM
It's really starting to shape up. Keep up the good work.

11-30-2008, 12:43 AM
this is so awesome .. i want to make one.. but out of an old submarine or something manly and cool like that
good work .., i love the pics keep em comming

12-07-2008, 05:14 PM
This is an up close shot of the pattern on the celing .

This is the finished the finished celing . it kind of looks like a carbon fiber pattern in that light to me.

This is the trim i decieded on i think it will look pretty nice .
I put up some more insulation but, not ezactly exciting hope you enjoy it

Hey Shock the box here is another container i looked at i tohught was manley

12-27-2008, 01:19 AM
hope to have an updated soon.. I have done some work nothing spectaculor though lol

12-28-2008, 12:57 AM
Cool. An update's an update, no less.

12-28-2008, 01:06 AM
I love the progress your making and I'm glad your wife is ok. I made a 2min photo in CS3 hope you like it. Its based off running your man cave with a nuclear reactor.

Check out the news article here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27845359/). Its a good read and is very interesting. Good luck and god speed.

01-03-2009, 05:32 PM
ok all finally an update

as you can se here there was nothing to attach the walls two for about 2 feet so i added a 2x4 i planed down to give me something to screw it too.

I used this to attach it to the building so i could put bolts through on the other side ant i wouldnt keep falling down and be cock eyed it worked amazingly i dont know how well it would hold under stress but it held up great . for my needs .
im kind of jumping all over the place i got all of it insulated and i cut my time down by over half i cut a peice of paneling down to the size i needed in the walls .

A peice of 1\4 to cut the recessed parts in between i finished in about an hour that was taking forever only wish i had thought of this long ago.

This is how im going to do the braces for the back wall.

I was going to dot he sides the same way but they neeeded extra bracing i thoguht running the wood this way would help more plus it is a lot longer than any 1x4 s i have .

This was a christmas present form my ife that helped me a lot

I used this tool to drive the screws in throught he oak and into the metal i used drywall screws made to go into metal studs that selfdrill

What keeps me going and my sugar from bottoming out i tend to work non stop when im working on something and for get to eat .

i took some scrap paneling fom the celing and finished the front wall it will have pegboard over it anyway
so it didnt have to be perfect .

Since those boards are 10 to 12 feet oak they eould be pretty hard to hold up and put a screw in at the same time so i would put a couple in spaced out close to where i needed them then rest the boards on the

this is what i ended up with .

then i did some work outside on a couple of spots i was tempted to try to get the old taillights from the bed working but were in bad shape i didnt really have the money for new ones .

first i cut some patches from crap sheetmetal .

Then i used some more of the griplock stuff.

then i went with the window flashing .

after some of the roof patch tar like stuff i but the reinforcement mesh and more tar
i did that on all the sides that needed it .
all comments welcome .hoprfully i am making ground if noting happens iwill start onthe walls and floor soon.

01-03-2009, 09:42 PM
This thing is really coming along! I love that Loctite Powergrab glue, excellent stuff. Puts Liquid Nails to shame.

01-03-2009, 10:57 PM

you said it man that stuff is amazing when i put that 2x4 i held it for how long it said and i was like yeah i will be lucky to get off the ladder before it hits my head but it was there to stay .

01-05-2009, 02:38 AM
Dude, this is going to be one kick-ass man-shack!

01-06-2009, 12:27 AM

Just stumbled on this today, simply awesome. Wish I had somewhere to put a container to do this in. I live in a trailer court tho so..... no room and no way the landlord would allow it. Great ideas tho. +rep for recycling, reusing and making do with what ya got ;). I'm still so jealous.

01-11-2009, 08:23 AM
wow this thread rocks!! makes me want to start building a simple shed that I could use. but I really REALLY want to build an actual shop, with a pit for some mechanikin. that would be sweet. alas, money restraints. I dig the old box truck idea, would be sweet to make a mobile modshop/mancave! I used to deliver furniture and when we would go on 4+ hour road trips I always wanted to bring a generator or ac converter and set up a tv / fridge in the back of our del. truck! + rep for sure!

This is a small updte but an update none the less with me being laidoff this comin week i should have some time to work on Man cave 2.0 even if i dont have the money lol

Here is some pegboard my father-in-Law donated to the project its is really
appreciated I will probably only be doing the pegboard on the front and back
walls .
With me anyway i find that i just pile stuff on top of stuff and cant find it anyway .

I cut these 1x2s into 10 inch strips to hold the pegboard away from the wall so i could use it

Then i screwed it to the wall

then i attach the pegboard to the 1x2 strips .

Here it is all hung up the roof of the right side is warped some thats why there is a gap there i can massage it some and make it fit a litle closer but i will put trim anyway just dont see the need really lol i have bigger things ahead i hope anyway .

Here is how i plan on doing the walls i had some scrap thought i would see how it looks i will paint the particleboard. I mean it is 7\16 think and its only $5.70 right now i csnt find anything that strong for that price . I hope to have
a more substancal update soon i if nothing happens .

I want to thank you guys for all the support and comments it really keeps me motivated . Btw all sugesstions and tips welcomed and appreciated

01-20-2009, 07:35 PM
this things lookin sweet, nice job :D

01-21-2009, 08:21 AM
thanks :D

it was my first time working with fiberglass on a rather large scale, so there was a lot of learnin goin on. I migh be splitting the hull this winter (soon hopefully) so we can make a mold then start poppin out new lightweight carbon and carbon/kevlar hulls :devious:

01-21-2009, 11:08 PM
That would be awesome Carbon fiber rocks .Hope to have an update soon lol it was so cold i couldnt take many pictures the other night cold for here anyway after about 2 pictures the batteries would get cold i guess could go back in the house for about 30 minutes and they would work again update soon i hope if nothing happens

01-26-2009, 01:03 AM
Well here i am with another small to medium update since i learned yesterday that i am getting another week off lol .
Lucky me but i know its tough everywhere and i can work on the Man Cave 2.0 and some projects on the house . Also im blessed i can draw unemployment and the wife is still getting 40 enough about real life though .
Sorry i do this from time to time i ramble a bit but its helps to vent some i beleive .

On with the update

Here i finished the back wall running the 1x4's to attach the wall too .

Here i added plastic as a vapor barrier I do have a question i thought about because of moisture and there being real high humidty here i thought i might should use tar paper as a vapor barrier instead of plastic any opinions or suggestions.

Here i added particleboard to the bottom which is what the walls will be i will paint them the Man Cave will have a theme of sorts .

Here s the pegboard installed i put the paricle board up first to have some thing to rest the pegboard on i left a gap at the top because i have somethign to add to that later .

When i added the horizontal bracing in oak i beleive it will be plenty just in case i want to add a cabinet or something i want to add some supports this is how it was .

i cut these 1x4's for support to add some strength and palces to hang things .
I know that probably over board i put like what seemed like 200 screws in last night lol , but i figure better to be safe than sorry .

the right side i only went halfway down but i think i may go all the way to the floor i wont hang anything that low for sure but thought i might as well any thoughts i can get the wood free or really cheap any suggstion ?

Also i mentioned last update about massaging things into palce this the tool for that lol. Hope you all enjoy remeber all your support is part of what keeps me going along with my wife . Any and all suggestions tips and recommendations appreciated hope to have another update soon if nothing happens

01-26-2009, 01:07 AM
Do your me wifes know about each other? "Hope you all enjoy remeber all your support is part of what keeps me going along with my wifes ."

01-26-2009, 01:35 AM

03-01-2009, 10:35 PM
Hello all here with another small update i have been working the past three Weeks but i will probably be off next week Here goes , Also those 1x4 supports i put between the oak i added more all the way to the floor didnt get any pics .

Here i added plastic down the wall for a vapor barrier .

here is a couple of pictures as i added the osb it went up easier that i thought

here are a great deal i found on 1 1/4 square drive deck screws i found at my favorite modding / hanyman store they have Isles and Isles of all kind of fasteners i gave $ 10 for a five pound bucket of those screws
Sorry for the very blury picture guys i am tring to work on that stuff as well .

03-02-2009, 12:20 AM
Another update!!!

@ nevermind1534 Thanks i know its not much but progress is progress

03-02-2009, 10:53 PM

Congrads on the front page!!!
It's well deserved!
:banana::banana::santa::banana::banana::up: :grouphug - not mine:yellow_green::eek::rolleyes:

03-03-2009, 01:07 AM
Wow...thats all I can say...

oh wait, I lied; the other thing I can say is that I am extremely jealous of you. I have a small corner in my basement :(.

I actually started following this thread early on, but somehow managed to miss all of the progress up until now. Congrats and +rep to the amazing work and front page feature.

03-03-2009, 01:17 AM
Congrats on the feature. When you're done, it needs some old school hotrod flames on the doors. Paint em black, and then airbrush the flames. Outline it with an electric blue pinstripe.

03-03-2009, 07:55 AM
You know what else would look pimp on the side of that modshop? A nice big TBCS logo :)

03-03-2009, 12:20 PM
woo congrats on the frontpage news yo!

03-03-2009, 02:33 PM
@ crazybillybob Hey thanks man coming from a modder of your calibur mean a lot thanks

03-03-2009, 08:22 PM
jdbnsn Hey i would be more that happy to do something like that i if its cool with paul and if i had an idea on how to do and make it look good im serious

Paul won't mind at all, hell it promotes the site doesn't it? As for the question of how, short of hand painting it on there maybe we will need to take suggestions. Any ideas folks?

03-03-2009, 08:42 PM
Front page WOOT! + rep Congrats man! a little progress here a little more there, pretty soon you'll have it "done". Well as done as most projects ever are anyway, if yours go anything like mine.

03-03-2009, 09:01 PM
get it silk screened onto a piece of plexi?

03-03-2009, 10:45 PM

i am up for any ideas i do have some friends that draw very well maybe we could make a stencil of sorts . all ideas welcome .

@ msmrx57 yeah thats pretty much ezactly how it goes for me lol thanks.

@ XcOM get it silk screened onto a piece of plexi hey i will look into with being laid off though it would have to be resonable lol Keep em coming guys

03-05-2009, 01:36 PM
If you got access to an overhead (think the ELMO's back in highschool .... you younger guys may have never seen them but I'm sure Scope knows what I mean :) )

I can print a full color logo on a over head sheet and mail it too you...
Then just trace the logo onto the side and paint in the colors.... It's like making a big mural for those of us that can't draw big :) (me)

03-06-2009, 02:07 AM
Thats the thing that had the class bottom you but a picture or text on top and it projects it on the wall at giant size right lol that is going back i would have to look in to finding one good idea .

I also will look into the silk screening that may be espensive though . I will checkthough thanks for the ideas guys .

found this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/EIKI-OVERHEAD-PROJECTOR-MODEL-3860-2000-LUMENS-TESTED_W0QQitemZ110354504916QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_ DefaultDomain_0?hash=item110354504916&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A15%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

hope its ok i linked it

If you got access to an overhead (think the ELMO's back in highschool .... you younger guys may have never seen them but I'm sure Scope knows what I mean :) )

I think pretty much all of us have seen them. But now ELMO makes these ones with a camera that plug into a TV or projector. Some teachers at my school still use overheads. You can even buy them from the teacher direct catalog (my mom gets it).

03-08-2009, 07:39 PM
Scope that's The one!

Most of the schools seem to have projectors tied to PC's now or "Smart Boards"
So I wasn't sure if the younger gen had used them before. Heck, most schools got rid of the chalkboards for "White boards".

03-08-2009, 08:52 PM
They have white boards. But only a few smart boards in the whole school.

03-14-2009, 07:36 PM
I found this thread the other day and have read it all. I asked my wife if I could makea Mancave like that and she said fine......if I move into it:eek:!!!!
Anyway you have a really cool project going on and can't to see it finished, then I might can convince the wife to let me get one:D

03-14-2009, 09:42 PM
LoL good luck i hope to make it not quiet such an eyesore on the outside after i get the insidw squared away if nothing happens maybe then she will ok it

03-15-2009, 03:20 PM
I have to say awesome work and I'm jealous. We live in an apartment so I don't have alot of workroom for stuff, just a small table and a couple nails to hang stuff from. Luckily my wife is very understanding about the dremel as long as it's not running once the kids are in bed.

But still, very awesome, if I ever get a house of my own I will have to try something like this myself.

03-16-2009, 03:20 AM
Thanks man i hope you can get something in better shape to start do you live upstars or down when i lived in birmingham as a late teen lol we had a small patio thing out side you wont beleive all you can do out there lol good your wife is so understandung thanks for kind words if it is upstairs one of these would be sweet

03-16-2009, 04:50 PM
That would be nice, we are upstaris and don't have a patio for me to work on sadly, we have a sunroom instead. But it has lots of windows I can open for ventilation and a fan to blow out of them.

03-25-2009, 11:46 PM
Thats a start good luck hope to have an update pretty soon

04-10-2009, 12:01 AM
I will have an update sooner than later i hope lol , I have put some 1X4 trim peices at each end of the man cave they are rough but that was the point i saw on a mod somwhere something similar to this cant remember where for the life of me but basically.
All of you guys here and at other places have really kept me going .I have got discouraged a lot as im sure we all have in the past basically i am offering anyone who wants to have there Name ,Handle ,clan tag whatever put on the 1x4 trim peices i will post pictures as soon as i can to give you a better idea iam going to try my hand at burning them in with a wood burner never done that so if you want you name on Man cave 2.0 let me know we can figure out a way to list it or just pm me what you want nothing Vulgar , or profane ,please no i want draw boobs eithier lol .

04-11-2009, 08:17 AM
This is awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing the end results.

04-11-2009, 11:11 PM
Thanks Dragonblood .

This is another small update just finished up the walls on both sides and picutres of the trim 1X4 's i was talking about pictures could be a lot better but it was dark in there and i didnt have much time .

Basically i just shows hanging the walls is done .
Next up hopefully will be laying down the floor .

04-12-2009, 04:33 PM
this is the most awsome thing man! your own little "bat-cave" :P

04-30-2009, 10:50 PM
Hey thanks a lot man sorry it took so long to reply i will have an update not too much longer i hope if nothing happens

05-12-2009, 09:55 PM
Here is another small update these are some pictures of me putting down the floor i did it with metal stud screws it has two layers so far.
I tried not to put all the seams together the pictures arent that great im sorry for that and i didnt have batteries at the time i strated but i think you all ge the idea.

Here is a picture of the trench to run the wiring

05-14-2009, 10:58 AM
That's not a trench! That's just a small culvert. Break out the shovel and DIG boy!
(looks like you had some rain...)

Nice work! Glad this is still coming along.

05-15-2009, 12:58 AM
LOL thats one of the advantages to having a Neighbor that has a backhoe lol .
It isnt very deep but deep enough to run the pvc and wires and some cat6 and rg45 and maybe a phone line im going to try to put all i think i will ever need .
Im not an electricabn by any means but i was thinking of running a 8-2 from a 60 amp double pole breaker then splitting the 220 of at the building for my lights and receptacles .
I wont have a lot running at once or pulling alot at once i dont think i would like too have a meter set but thats isnt in the budget for now anyways any elctrical he lp greatley appreciated .

Airbozo man you wouldnt beleive the rain we have had latley we had a bad drought around here last year now its raining like crazy .

05-15-2009, 04:27 AM
Looking good man. Sorry but I been on a bit of a hiatus. This work of mancaving has come a long way since I last seen it. looking very good might I add. we still need to get together somtime for some gaming. keep it up man.

05-15-2009, 11:52 PM
Hey man long time no see Thanks i havent been able to work much latley i have been laid off for a while .I go back monday we will see how it goes and how long it will last . By the way good to see your back ,

05-15-2009, 11:58 PM
Is it bad if you've read this thread plenty of times... know what it's about... yet every time your eye crosses the title, you think, "What game?"

05-16-2009, 01:15 AM
lol no,Whatever keeps you thinking about it instead of passing it over .

06-07-2009, 12:53 AM
Here is where i got too last update
This update dosent look like much but it was a lot of work and a lot of broke drill bits in my wake .
The screws i used were self drilling metal drwall screws i also tried another type but the OSB would walk up the screw and break the drilling point so i found that if i drilled the OSB to about the same size of the screws it helped a lot.
The bits i found that worked the best in that diamond plate was dewalts split tip cobalt driil bits i also used these screws too.

Here is the layer done i have one more layer im going to do plywood on top of all that running the other direction

Also my birthday is coming in a couple of weeks and i got my Birhtday presents early They were to work on Man Cave 2.0 \Modding

this is a car my wife got to add to my collection i dont know if you can really tell but it is transparent plastic or clear lol i thought it was cool .

I also thought this whole Mod\remodel\crazy idea started with not being able to dremel at night because of my wifes schedule .
So ithought why not show some pictures of Man cave 1.0 and yes im a big Jeff Grodon fan and no i dont care who likes it lol .
Also see i do plan on modding if you look at the top left you can se some of bills vinly film ,

06-13-2009, 08:01 PM
Jeff Gordon won at Texas Motor Speedway this year.

06-13-2009, 11:58 PM
yeah now if he could get homestead out of the way lol , I would much rather see another championship though

07-05-2009, 09:28 PM
This is looking awesome, although once its complete you should bury it and have an underground mancave. :D

07-06-2009, 10:28 PM
lol now theres a thought that would also help with the extreme heat problem i wonder if i could some how brace the rofo to hold the dirt hmmmmmmmmm.......
That would be cool no kidding if i could keep the roof from caveing in lol .

07-07-2009, 08:01 AM
If you didn't go to deep you might not need to reinforce it too much.

07-07-2009, 10:34 PM
No kidding that would solve a lot of my heat problem when i get it done i may look into it .

07-07-2009, 11:29 PM
I was thinking the same thing. Just a couple of inches of soil on top, put something up there to keep any serious weight off of it (don't want to drive over it), the roof wouldn't need much reinforcing but corrosion could be a problem.

07-08-2009, 01:53 AM
...then it would be a REAL mancave. :D

07-08-2009, 10:18 PM
i was thinking if i could get the building deep enough i dont know if this would be possible i could run say a sheet of steel or something over it put the dirt on that .
I know of a house not to far from here that is underground wonder if they would give a tour and shoot the bull about it lol .
I guess i have Three chocies if anyone has any exprience or expertise please dont hesitate and even if you have no clue ( Like Me ) go ahead as well .

Option one
Leave building as is build up dirt around it veru thin on top lol maybe add some kinda of small roof structure .

Option Two

Dig lets say trench like 3 or 4 foot deep and 18 to 20 ft long
then build up around that .

Option 3
Would be like say 7ft deep 20 long almost whole building underground
but it would take some kind of excavating to make it accessible talk about
yard crashers .
Oh yeah on a side note i was talking about it last night with my wife
I wish there was a smiley face for the face i got Im sure all the married guys
Here have got that look before lol . it was priceless.
I will keep looking into this is if nothing happens i dont know how far well get i need to finish it first .

A less extreme idea might be a green roof

07-09-2009, 03:11 AM
I was just thinking that you wouldn't have to bury the whole thing, jusy dig out a hole half as high as it is, put it in place and use the dirt you dug to build up sides on it and cover the top. I like the metal-on-top idea, but something more resistant to water woudl better I think, a big sheet of fiberglass, maybe? Curve it on the top so it sends the water to the sides...

Not as impossible as it sounds, really. Sure would help with the climate control. And you'd have a storm shelter, too. :) They have tornadoes down there?

07-09-2009, 10:45 PM
That sounds like pretty close to one of the ways i was thinking i dont know if my neghibor would want to dig that deep for me but i think the local tool renatl place rents backhoes for about $250 a day at tax time that wouldnt be too bad plus i get all day with backhoe
Yeah the weather gets pretty rough sometimes thats for sure . Nice idea

07-10-2009, 02:27 AM
yeah I like the halfway idea too with the dirt on the sides and top. make a nice hill to play golf on too. put the green on the top of the hill and practice your chip shot! lol.

just doing a green roof wouldnt be too terrible, just throw a ladder on the side. then you could do a garden of flowers, veggies, or herbs too.

07-12-2009, 12:04 PM
billygoat333 flowers on the mancave? lol
I wouldnt mind haveing some tomatos though

07-13-2009, 02:14 AM
hey men like flowers too! :P or you could grow barley, and make your own beer! haha

07-14-2009, 08:49 AM
Brilliant Brillant

07-14-2009, 12:30 PM
Dude flowers for the wify for allowing you to build the man cave and her allowing you to spend so much time in it.:D

07-14-2009, 04:21 PM
Dude flowers for the wify for allowing you to build the man cave and her allowing you to spend so much time in it.:D

Also Brilliant also i wouldnt have to buy flowers for valtines day again i could pick em :whistler:

07-25-2009, 02:13 PM
Valentines day, Anniversary, birthday, ect.... You will have to still get her other stuff but the mancave will end up bringing your wife alot of pleasure and may be you some to...lol (not meant in a sexual way. HA)

So I totally forgot to tell you where I want my name! If you would like paint it right on the side...huge! nah it would be cool to have it where ever you want to put it.

07-31-2009, 11:54 PM
Hey i can br pretty darn big because your the only one that wants there name on it lol

09-20-2009, 12:10 PM
Finally i have something to update on man cave 2.0.
I like one small piece tongue and groove OSB and the floor will be done well except for wha tever i put on it paint or maybe a rug lol dont know about that .

I would like to get electricity too it soon but Im almost there i would love t obe using it now the little bench Man cave 1.0 is pretty crowded but i have seen amazing mods basically done on patio tables so thats no excuse.

I want to Apologize for the pictures i would like to have cleaned it out before i took pictures but after hurting mt back the doctor said No working lol .

09-21-2009, 12:00 AM
Looks like you'll me modding out there before the first snowfall! Nice.

09-21-2009, 11:34 PM
Man i hope so if i have to i can run a drop cord out there i have been all this time anyway .
really all i like is wiring painting inside and out and moving things around and getting it setup if .
Which is still a lot oh i still will have to do the TBCS theme too on the outside.
Thanks man .

09-22-2009, 06:54 AM
Looks like you'll me modding out there before the first snowfall! Nice.

snow?!?!? wtf are you talking about. We dont get snow in alabama. we have 5 months of blistering heat 1 month of sinus problems 5 months of freezing wet nasty and 1 month alergies with more sinus problems. Seriously it snows like 1 day a year and then about every 3-4 years it snows so ahrd the state is shut down. He might be modding in it before it gets the freezing wet nasty season. hehehe. Ask Liquid and Kayin both. They know what I am talking about.:D

09-22-2009, 09:21 PM
lol i coudnt have sais it any better myself it suppose to rain here all week rained all day yesterday and half today then got so hot i got some mowing done after work lol

10-04-2009, 12:44 AM
I worked on the Man cave 2.0 this weekend i took a step back to hopefully take two forward lol
Here is the disclaimer what the man that did this work did is an idiot do not i repeat do not do this at home he is a grown man .

Who knew better but was in hurry no wonder his back is bad he should have found some help what he did was very , very unsafe he is not good he was lucky lol .
Ok enough of that i took the pegboard on the back wall down i like it but i find i always put to much on the hooks and cant find it anyway so i did this

which this should help with storage the dumb part was see the jacks holding it in place .

Basically i had to slide onto of the base cabinet then lift one side up put the jack under the repeat then hold against the wall while i screwed it down very dumb of me also i had to load it on the truck out of our storage building by myself.

Then unload it lol that sucked It was a display cabinet they had when i started the like 16 yrs ago.
They gave it to me so i thought it has helped get a lot of stuff off the floor and out of the way i am going to really try to work on it.

I need some where to work on motor head Thanks all for the support .

10-04-2009, 12:46 AM
those cabinets are saweet!! this thing is gonna be effin tits by the time you are done. :D

(can I say tits on the board? kind of a grey word... lol)

10-04-2009, 12:51 AM
lol he said ti... thanks i will have to change the pulls on the bottom cabinet the yhave flowers on them i have never even seen those pull in the pull room ever 'ever and i have seen some pulls in my day lol

10-04-2009, 01:13 AM
nice kitchen...wait a sec? This isn't a kitchen!
Nice job so far, love the work

10-04-2009, 11:49 AM
Hey thanks i would not mind a microwave and a mini fridge lol

10-10-2009, 12:11 AM
On an even lighter note i remeber when i first started talking with SGTM about our trucks.
Then posting the kitten pics which was an accident the first ones where there under the building i didnt notice till i posted it .

It just came to me how can any self respecting man of southern decent not post a picture of his Truck or his dog but post pics of kittens and i call it a mancave lol so here goes i really need a better camera and to take some time to practice

really really needs a waxing lol

I present Gus the who knows what bread part Lab part basset hound and who knows what else

Action shot i wish i had the camera to take pics hes a blast to play fetch with

I almost forgot he hates the Mower I mean hates it he set a trap for me imagine hitting that at mach 1 one the mower or felt like it when i hit it

10-11-2009, 05:31 PM
A update i dint do a lot to the mancave this weekend i did some cleaning and organizing .
I bought something a couple weeks ago didn't really have the money well ok i used the plastic but, It is something i think is really needed i know i am cramped for space and This worklog will be on going after the cave is finished .
I plan to build somethings for it . What i bought was this

It will be perfect when i need the space i can roll it out also i can bolt my dremel drill press attachment to it .
Also when i get well hope to get Benchtop Drillpress ,Grinder,Scrollsaw so it should be very helpful since it slides i can cut plexi with the miter saw .

I was wanting to wait till i got it wired to do anything else but i think every little thing i can get done will help in the end .
I know before i as k this no one is responsible for what i do but me .

Is there anyone that is an Electrician or Knowledgeable in wiring i have some questions if you dont mind pm me if you had rather do that than post it here .
Thanks all hope to have a more progress update soon if nothing happens .

10-12-2009, 01:43 AM
ooo, nice miter saw. those things come in REAL handy.

I can do some simple wiring, lol but nothing too extensive

10-14-2009, 11:10 PM
yeah that was a birhtday present from my wife it being a "10" sliding compound Miter Saw for $200 it is Great it is a Kobalt if you cant make it out .

I have used the $600 dewalt which a better saw no denying that and "12".
This will do all i need even has a laser sight at our Lowes there on sale for $175

10-15-2009, 09:50 PM
nothin wrong with kobalt they make some great tools but i do have to agree that i prefer dewalt ive got the 18v xrp cordless drill and d@*& that thing is nice

10-15-2009, 10:51 PM
I use Ryobi because there so much cheaper Dewalts or really nice i tool i have used a ton on the cave is a impact driver man that thing has got me out of a lot of work lol .

10-16-2009, 01:57 AM
dewalts are amazing tools, very high quality. but yes, you def. pay out the ass for them. :p ryobi are nice, I have been using my dads cordless porter & cable set lately, and I have to say the drill and the sawsall both work awesome.

10-17-2009, 12:42 AM
I saw that Lowes started carring them i was wondering how the were .

If you dont have a lot of storage space like me this is the Werner version of the little giant ladders this thing is awesome http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=78463-287-MT-22&lpage=none

Its a little heavy but you can use both sides make a scaffold all kinds of stuff instead of having like 5 ladders i hate climbing those extension ladders the way they sway this on isn't as bad .

i really wish i had on of these when i was lugging around all that OSB and plywood and stuff

I also have an update i got The walls primed last night and got it painted to day only have primed photos fo now no batteries

10-18-2009, 03:59 PM
Hello all i have another update,Im really trying to take better picture and write better for my worklogs . You all will be the critics, and insperartion these pictures are not my best .Horpfully theu will improve i am jumping around working on things .
I wanted to do wireing first but the money not there so i am doing whatever i can do with the money i have hoping it will all work out in the end worked pretty much two days on this and it has been colder than a Witches mammory gland in an iron bra in the al .lol I have a theme some of you might know what it is also .
I hope to get a big shop one day and this will be the tech/computer /modding cave .

10-19-2009, 10:37 PM
january first 2004????? lol someone needs to set the time stamp on the camera

10-19-2009, 11:05 PM
lol yeah i reset it to default forgot to set he date . You got me on that one

11-02-2009, 10:08 AM
its so... red! lol. lovin it sir. 20,000+ views! lol way to be!

11-02-2009, 11:20 PM
yeah im going to replace those with better picture si hope soon .
Im going wanting to do a Alabama Crimson Tide theme .
It was pretty funny when i had the paint mixed the girl said it looks pink but,i promise it will look crimson when it drys .
She was right cant sa y i wasn't worried .
I hoped to get somethings done this week i did level it some more yesterday but can really get that in pics lol.
I am laid off this week hope to get some done this week my wife had me modding the house yesterday and Today . I knew that was coming . 20,000
views if you would have told me that when i started i would have said your high .
I wonder if it keeps up with my views thats probably a thousand .
Thanks again all for the support .
Wireing is what i mainley like but this will go a while i still have the TBCS logo to do paint the outside .
I have planned some mods for inside as well .

11-05-2009, 01:27 AM
You can't grind with a weed whacker -ER that's debatable I suppose. Looks cool man, wish I had one =P

11-06-2009, 11:57 PM
lol yeah i was wondering if anyone was gonna notice it plus rep to you for that one .
I could use it to distress a side panel though

03-17-2010, 11:06 PM

I Wish this was a happier update i do hope to finish the man cave when i get a little money but sad to say my wife and mine friend ,companion Gus passed away a couple months ago

03-17-2010, 11:38 PM
Dude, My heart goes out to you. I had to put down my best friend back in August. Saved her a lot of pain and broke my heart.

03-18-2010, 01:45 AM
I can sympathize as well, we had to put our baby girl down the day i came back from new york after visiting my dad. it hurts for a long time.

03-18-2010, 10:12 PM
Thanks what sucked is we had to keep hin on a running chain forever well he finally got where he would stay home .
So we would let him run and do his thing most of the day and put him up at night .
He didn't bother anybody or anything i came home one day and he had been swimming in the creek behind the house and it was pretty cold out .
He seemed fine .
It was awful because i thought he was just being lazy as usual when i threw the ball to play catch he didn't move oh that sucked at least my wife wasn't home at he time .
I don't know if the swimming did anything there is a guy down the road who drives 50 plus on a dirt road he has been responsible for more than on pets untimely demise around here .
I am afraid our house ca may have to be put to sleep too i hope not my wife bottle feed her . Till she was old enough hope she will be ok thanks again guys

03-27-2011, 11:53 PM

I just needs wiring and the floor covered with starting my lawn care service getting it going or trying to has taken a lot of my time i have saved enough to start the wiring think.
I will still use it for more or less what i intended.
I also have another project call it like a phoneix rising Man Cave 3.0 or Man Cave redux.

I guess to steal a saying "GO BIG OR GO Home"

Here Goes as usual all coments welcome

It has a hardwood floor that im glad off needs a little work on floor and doors but hope to do basically same to it as small building hope to have some actual
work photos soon Thanks in advance guys .

hey guys need an opinion i am stuck now that i have two buildings i can either run off the breaker box on the house.
I can run wire underground to buildings i seriously doubt either will ever pull more than 50 amps at any given time . also i can run basically a mobile home 200 amp pole to one building then pull both building off that hand it will costs $15 a moth if you never use it .

I think it would be better that way instead of trying to run off house .
what do you guys think thanks again still going to finish little building hopefully start after Christmas may even do a tile floor it will be fore office/man cave/ gaming /finish modding /building may give it a facelift on the walls as well

I would run the separate service for them just for the piece of mind. Electrical safety shouldn't be taken lightly. The shop I share with my dad has 30 amp service to it and I don't have anything that draws more than 15 amps and still occasionally trip the breaker.
