Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've been back on the forums. Been very busy. Recently got back to my mod (which i know i didnt keep a worklog for but whatever, I'm lazy) and the only thing that is keeping me from finishing (besides lack of funds) is my clear coat. Every time i paint i do a coat or two of color and then apply the clear coat after it dries. but for some reason the clear coat causes the paint to fold up into ridges. Not bubbling but folding. I use the exact same brand and line of clear as the paint: Rustoleum Painter's Touch Gloss. What would cause the paint to fold? Shouldn't these be compatible together since they're the same brand and everything? Or am i doing something wrong and don't know it? Help me, please!

Are you allowing enough drying time between coats? I had that problem once on a mouse I painted and it was because I didn't let the paint dry enough before I cleared it. If for some reason they aren't compatible, I've had good luck using Dupli-color clear coat on Rustoleum and any other brand of paint I've tried.

Timing is very important with rattle can paint. You need to apply the the coats at least 15mins but no more then 2 hours... If you wait over 2hours you need to wait at least 2 days (48 hours!) longer if in a cooler and/or moister environment. It has to do with the solvents and flash times.

The other thing, if it's an important piece never use the last 1/3 of a can on it... bust out a new can...sounds odd but it can cause issues!

It also could be a reaction to the primer you used, all the same rules apply with primers too!

Good Luck,

Even MNPCTech waits a week for dry time!
