hello all i was given and older pc at work today and it had a reciept where it had been worked on and said save pictures has some trojan cant remember name .
Well i brought it home and it had a wireless nic in it and i havent used wireless before my modem from the isp has wireless built in but was suppose to be off.
So i am working with the pc a little and just checking it out and noticed the wireless card has connected to my modem had green light in the task bar its a belkin i beleive what are the chances if the trojan is still there i got it the old pc would not connect to internet but what are the chances of the trojan if its still on there getting into my modem \ router and putting the trojan on my pc would a simple reformat fix my pc you know reinstall windows thanks in advance all

the chances of it getting on to your system are slim. If you dont access your system from the infected one and vice versa. just dont plug a thumb drive or anyhting into. I would just reload it and get it started over.

If you do not use the wireless, you should turn it off. Other people can connect to your network and do evil things with your ISP like upload child porn. The fact that this extra machine connected without a problem proves that you have no security enabled with the wireless connection.

If your wireless is really turned off, I suppose it is possible that your extra machine might be connecting to a neighbor's wireless router.

my wireless router it wierd, if you turn the wireless off, you canstill connect, but not do anything, internet and network dosen't work, you can only attept to access the web based control panel

Could it have possibly been a neighbor's network? If not, you better check yours, and if you can still connect, maybe get a new router/modem.

no it is my network, and is a brand new router, according to the manufactures site, its a safty feature, incase you disable wireless and can't hardwire to turn it back on, allows you to access the control panel only apperently, you still need to know the access details though, SSID is turned off so you can't see it anyway.
