Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal.
In order to play Prelude you need to have Steam installed on your system, of course.
You also need to be the owner of Portal or Orange Box.

Before you install, please make sure you have the Steam Client installed along with Portal and probably either Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source or Day of Defeat Source or the Source SDK Base. Also make sure they have been launched at least once through Steam. All you need to do is install Portal: Prelude to your "SourceMods" directory, inside of the "SteamApps" directory of Steam. Be sure to restart Steam after the installation. This will allow Steam to update your game list and include Portal: Prelude in it.

I'm not a real fan of the game. Unlike Portal, where concept is key and execution is only a minor challenge. This game involves a lot of use of the quick save and quick load. You will die a lot and screw something up a lot more. I know what I am supposed to do, but if I don't jump high enough it doesn't work . . .etc. It's frustrating. Portal was better. I know Valve has their eye on this game, and I hope they learn from the mistakes of this one so that the real Portal sequel is not as poor as this.

Also, the voice overs are awful. They use one of those voice generators, albeit a more sophisticated one, but it is still awful. I give the game a thumbs down so far. It's irritating me.

I've played a little. It is just so frustrating to know the solution and the have to go through it 100 times to do it right. I'm not a fan. I only play for 20-30 min at a time because I value low blood pressure.

Are they releasing it for the xBox or just for PC?

Can I Download Games (http://www.playedonline.com/download/) for xBox like I can for the PC? I have a 360 but don't live in the USA

It's a mod, so it's PC only, unless you somehow can make it work on XBox360, but I highly doubt that without hacking your XBox a lot.

Yep long live the last vestige of PC gaming... the mod...

Yeah I am not real keen on it either. There are tons of posts on their site about how people dis-like the focus on accuracy. They are aware of it and say they playtested to that fact but it's just too hard to really be fun where as most of portal was about the puzzle and less about the execution.

And just to ruin it for those poor saps who play it on xBox, on PC you can load the portal gun into HL2 (although technically you are loading HL2 into Portal). Great fun to open portals to drop stuff on your enemies.
