I've kinda given up on my Counter-Strike C4 mod (or at least pushed it off to the side to start at a later date). I've wanted to do a mod based around the game Starcraft, but I've had trouble coming up with ideas on how to make it into a case. I know I want it to use the Terran style of raw metal plates and technology type stuff. I want to put the "Starcraft" logo on the reverse side of the case (opposite the side the window usually goes). I really would like to make some buttons resembling the buttons on the HUD. If anyone has got any other ideas or suggestions, please post em!

I was toying with a Starcraft Ghost theme case .. but never could get the design to feel right.

You could model it after a terran seige tank .. :)

a 120mm top blow hole with a rim modeled to look like the vent tower from the terran refinery would be awesome lol......now just have to see about some sort of green mist for the vespane gas :D

Dreamtraveler, I was thinking about that, but then I noticed how the bunkers look like they wanna just plop down on top of a fan and be a fan grill. I'll have to see, though.

I came up with a bunch of ideas and sketched them up:

i love the idea you have the case feet...didn't even think about that, but it would be perfect. i haven't seen a screen shot in a LONG time, and in looking at came up with an awesome idea for a front fan port. cut into the front create an opening like on the side of the terran machine shop where the tanks come out. mount the fan horizontally on top of a 45 degree slope with 3 LED backlit yellow triangles. then hook the LEDs up to some sort of runner where they cycle through just like in the game. lol i'm not saying i know how to do any of this haha but it would be pretty awesome with the lights and paint and everything.

if my description didn't confuse you enough i made a quick diagram to confuse you even more! lol basic side layout diagram

that would be awesome. Oh man, I'm looking forward to this mod.

That's actually a really good idea, dreamtraveler. I know exactly what you mean. I'm not sure about the blinking (or, rather, cycling) LEDs though. I'll probably try the cycling idea just to see how it looks but I think it would be distracting. Maybe I'll have a switch for cycling / normal / off? Maybe I'll just have them lit up permanently, I'm not sure. I'm gunna be doing a lot of just seeing what works out and what I think looks good.

Anyways, I got some small sheets of aluminum and a small piece of acrylic just to experiment with. I want to get some experience working with them before I set out with this mod.

Also, I really want to attempt to replicate the metal plating stuff that's used on all the menus in the game. It's a very distinct feature and if I nail it I think it'll be great. I just need to figure out if I'm going to layer real metal, use Styrene (like in Crimson's Doom3 mod) or what. I'm going to try and get to the hobby shop this weekend to see what they think. Any of you guys have ideas / suggestions?

wow, if you layered real metal to form the starcraft look that case would weigh a ton!! lol...i'd say molding like Styrene would work out best. you could use metal for larger layers under the molds as a support system, but using a lot of it i think would add up and you'd have a 70-100lb case by the time you were done lol :p

am glad that i could help at least a little :p i think that the LEDs could be done with a low voltage so that they are not as bright to not cause that much of a distraction. there is one thing about terran buildings though and that's that the all have their little lights and what not. like a case entirely built around the styling of the armory would be badass lol :p gotta have a good balance though, so i hear ya. :D

A three-way switch would be easy to incorporate into the mod for your cycling arrows - I'll do a bit of research and see if I can't find a circuit diagram to help you out.

Rank, I'm probably gunna be ordering a bunch of switches off eBay, since they're like 40 cents apiece as opposed to 4 bucks at Radioshack. But yeah, some research on the cycling LEDs would be cool. Not sure how to do that. I think they might have a tutorial on that over at Metku Mods (www.Metku.net)...

Edit: Yeah check out the tut here: http://www.metku.net/index.html?sect=view&n=1&path=mods/vilkkuvalot2/index_eng

Bah, you'll have to have some creep creeping up the side of your case :P.

ewww...a good zerg mod would be awesome...all covered in creep with a spawning pool for a reservoir and a pulsating spore colony for a top exhaust port :D lol...would be messy, hard and take a long time lol :p but would be awesome

Regardless, I think it'd be cool to have some creep coming up the side of your terran case, out of the corner. Just get some of that foam stuff and paint it purple 8) .

But back to the zerg... am I the only one who thinks it'd be cool to have a sunken colony on top with it's vine.. plunger.. THING.. down into the ground and have it snaking around inside the case and come out in some other place?

... That's.. that's what I thought.

ahh...that would be cool :D maybe hooking up some kind of small air compressor and have it actually shoot stuff out! :D lol...just an idea :p...would be great to see the sunken colony though!

i think a computer case with spires would be nice.. dont know where, but it would be nice... or a hydralisk shaped case.. that would be sick.. with skulls at the base...
going back to the subject, i like battlecruisers (also the asgard in stargate have nice ones)... a terran case with some laser turrerts, machine guns etc.. niiiiceee.... but the best choice(IMHO) would be a bunker / supply mix...
