My friends girlfriends laptop is having issues. It used to work ok with the charger, issue is charger wire was frayed internally, so every so often when she'd move itd shut off. So she got a new charger, now the issue is the laptop will turn on it seems, all lights etc light up, but no display and it doesnt actually sound like its running. Anyone have any ideas? I'll try to get some more info on it tonight

Is the new cord the same voltage, and does it supply at least the same amount of amps?

pray to whoever you worship that there wasnt too many amps or a too high voltage. To low and it temporarily wont work. To much, however, has a funny habit of stuffing things up. I blew up my onboard using too much voltage.

Too many amps won't be a problem unless it's a poorly-regulated power supply and rated for far higher than the original unit. Higher voltage, however, can certainly kill stuff - anyone in a 220/230v country is invited to hook an old Deer/Powmax/Codegen/etc. ultra-cheap PSU up with the switch set to 115v and see what it does...
