I want to upgrade R2-M5 to something far better than what it is now. Here's the motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128344) I'm getting. I will be using an ATI 3870 HD 1GB video card (because I already have it) and 16GB of DDR2-800!! I want Intel Quad core, but don't know what to get. Being relatively cheap (probably on ebay), I'd like to keep it at $300 or so. I might be able to score a QX6850. What do you think?

The Q9400 sells for less than the QX6850. I thought that a higher number meant it was better

q is the standard core2quad series. QX is for the core2extremes, which have an unlocked FSB multiplier for better overclocking.

I can get the Q9550 on Newegg for $319 and the QX6850 for about $350 on ebay. Do you guys think the $30 difference is worth it?

You will be able to overclock it more. Is better overclocking worth $30 to you? to overclock it, in addition to overclocking the FSB, you will want to raise the multiplier.

If you don't, buying an extreme is just wasting your money.
