you need cable managment on the one with the orange wires

Yea, That computer isn't used much, it's just one I threw together with extra parts...Plus, it doesn't have a window at all and no airflow coming in from the front...yet anyways, I think I'm going to take out the LCD screen in the front and put some mesh or something slick looking so I can get some airflow in there...I admit, it's not pretty by any means, but you can't see it..=) What do you think about the other system?

DVD Stealth Mod...Pictures below..
Steps
I had to :
1) Remove the dvd bezel, but leaving the door bezel for a place to super glue the fillers. Also had to remove the clips on the fillers that held them in place when doing their original job.
2) After supergluing the fillers on, I then had to line up a screw (only thing I have, I'm at school) and superglued that to the back of the filler and line it up with the round eject button.
3)Done! (wasn't really that easy though, had a few troubles trying to actually figure out how to get this to work)

This was my first actual "case mod," and will probably do something else soon. I was thinking about hanging a bracket from the bottom 2 screws of the fan on the power supply inside and attach another fan, which would essentially blow air across the ram.

Please let me know what you think!?

I really like the mesh on the stealthed drives!! That's a great use of the pre-existing bezels. That case looks pretty damn hot for a pre-mod imho. Also the clever switch for the CD is brilliant--lol something i would have thought of as well. You could also try opening the CD drive and soldering a momentary switch onto the contacts for the open/close relay--its really very easy to do--maybe next time! Keep up the good work

One of the first things I noticed is the floppy drive. You might want to paint the front, or stealth it with some mesh that is hinged, so that you can access it. Leaving it beige like that makes it stand out too much, IMO.

Nice job overall, though. The mesh looks good.

Thanks y'all

Crimson, thanks, good to hear it looks good from a pro like yourself. I've been watchin the Doom3 Project of yours...Looks pretty sick man!

I plan on doing something about the floppy, I'm just at the Naval Academy and have limited resources...which equals no access to spray paint easily...If anyone has any easy idea, it'd be great. I was trying to think of a way to integrate the original filler, but it's not mesh.
Maybe I can find a piece of mesh online that matches this, cut out a slit for the disk and the button, paint the button silver and take off the beige front bezel so that the mesh piece would be able to be attacthed. I think that would look alot better.
I have just ordered UV yellow wire wrap for all the wires. I like to keep my system pretty uniform all the way around. On my motherboard all the connectors, pci, pcie slots, and one set of the RAM slot, are UV yellow, and the wires included are UV yellow. So to keep with that theme, I ordered yellow wrap. I think the yellow and blue contrast each other pretty well....

This is the finished product...Sorry, I just figured out how to put pics in here. This is Before the DVD Stealth MOD.

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116320748.jpg
Here is the Front before the DVD stealth MOD. If you notice, I still need to figure out a way for the floppy drive to match, or stealth it. Any ideas how to stealth a floppy?

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116283099.jpg
Here it is in the light from the side. I have yellow wire wrap to sleeve all of the wires to match my IDE/Floppy and SATA Cables.

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116214224.jpg
Inside, nothing too out of the ordinary...that heatsink there kicks ass..idle's at around 28C.

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116130324.jpg
This is while I was stealthing the DVD Drives. I had to remove the bezels so that they would set correctly. I attached them using super glue..how ingenious! HAH!

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116403734.jpg
This is all I had to work with. I had to super glue the screw to the back of the filler and line them up so that when I tap on the filler, it presses the button in and voila, drive opens up! Worked like a charm!

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116425198.jpg
This is the final product. I think it came out pretty darn good!!!

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116521580.jpg
Here the final front shot after I was done. The doors on the case are obviously open to see the whole thing.

http://x12.putfile.com/12/34116550165.jpg
And here it is...Done, done, and...done...except for the floppy drive...

Comments are welcome please, sorry for all of you who didn't go to the site or had troubles with it...

Excellent work - the fan on the front there looks super-sweet.

Overall, a very sleek system you've got going. Nice work. What's next?

Do you need a floppy? I haven't used one in years.

I don't know but how else would I load some of my drivers ya know? especially on a fresh build, sometimes you need one. Plus, this is the computer I use for school as well, and some of my old papers are on floppy from a couple years ago. So I need one I guess lol...

Anyone know where I can find the Wire Mesh stuff to buy? Thanks

You know, since the advent of USB memory keys, I havent used a floppy drive to do anything except copy data from a very old computer that was stored on the disks.

You can jsut as easily do without these things any more, man. You can even create a fully bootable environment on a USB dongle so that you can reformat your HDDs with ease.

Floppys are pretty much obselete any more.

Thanks...Unfortunately, I am at home now on a POS intel machine bought from gateway like 6 years ago by my parents, my computer's are at school...I wish I knew of a way to take my computers home with me on the airplane's when I came home...

My next project, if I get a dremel for Christmas, will be to cut out a blowhole on the top of the case for added airflow.

Why didnt you paint over the DVD logo on the drive before you stealthed it ?
Maybe the floppy would be more stealthier if you painted it like the same color as the front of the case ?

Anyways, where did you get that big fan grill :) ?
Or did you do it from scratch ?
Im curious :D (And i want a like that grill to my new project)

The black grill over the front fan I assume?
Actually, to my surprise, it came with the case! I was pretty stoked when I saw that, but, all it is, is a piece of round hole wire mesh that was bent around the corners so that it would fit tightly into the hole around the fan and holds itself in there. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make...
I just haven't been able to find a place to get the mesh from. Any ideas?

As for painting the dvd doors, as I said in the pics, all I have to work with was the superglue...lol, when I'm at the Academy, I don't have any tools, and I can't leave during the week, only on the weekends...So I don't have the resources to totally mod what I want. If I did, you would see some pretty cool mods...

SerialBeat...what a coincidence...haha...

I've just done these mods a couple days ago...and have more in store...

Well, I finally opted to get rid of the unsightly floppy drive, but since I have to use the 6 floppys to boot windows when I reformat, I decided to leave the cable plugged in and tucked away so I can take the side off behind mobo and plug in when I need it, which isn't too often...
And oh yea

No more sloppy floppy!! I took out the beige drive when I finally broke down and bought my new Vantec Nexus 105 fan controller....

And here's a pic without the flash on, so you see the lights a bit better...a little fuzzy..sorry

Here's another one....

And another...
http://x11.putfile.com/1/1819345643.jpg

I've decided to combat some of the dust that happens when you live in a building with 4400 other fools...
So I installed some mesh fan filters...they are amazing, they are 2 piece, so you dont have to take of the fan screws to clean it...it's pretty nice. I've also took one of the filters apart and put it behind the front wire mesh cover in front of the turbine looking fan...amazing what these things catch!

http://x11.putfile.com/1/1819362848.jpg

This is how I have my desk setup too..if anyone wants to see...
http://x11.putfile.com/1/1819285448.jpg

The comp on the right is the one in my sig, and the one on the left...specs in profile...Surround sound rear speakers are kept on the front corners of my desk usually...I use the one on the left when I'm oc'ing and trying to tweak my DFI system...Both monitors are connected to the one on the right...

I have currently ordered some parts to put in a window on the top of the case, with a billet blowhole fan cover...It'll look sweet..ill post pics

Here's the blowhole...
http://www.mnpctech.com/mnpctechblowhole.html

I ordered 4 of these aluminum fans...3 x 120mm and 1 x 92mm for the blowhole...

I finally got around to sleeving some of the wires, but I got a little confused on how I'm supposed to get all the wires sleeved...Oh well, guess this'll have to do...I also just picked up the ATI X1900XTX a few weeks ago, so that replaced the 7800GT I had (sittin in a box right now)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f7/s10man69/DSC00343smallforum.jpg

If I get time this weekend, I'll be cutting the blowhole on top and putting an aluminum fan in there.

My original plan to put in a window on the top of the case failed, as I couldnt find pre cut plexi for it. I wanted to engrave the top of the PSU, which would then be seen through the window. (I may do it this summer after I get home from school...we'll see)

I am green with envy. It will be years before my girlfriend lets me spend that much on a graphics card.

Wow, that looks pretty cool, that fan and grill on the front is a nice touch! Gives it that Locheed-Martin kinda look. Mind if I ask, how do you like your X1900XTX? Been wanting one and need justification to even think about it, I can't afford one now but maybe someday...

Once ATI actually comes out with Drivers that will make use of it, I'm sure it will be great! I'm somewhat happy with it, if I were you, I'd save the money and buy an XT, not an XTX, you can flash the BIOS to an XTX and OC it to get the same speed and temps as me...But other than that, I play BF2 at an average of around 100FPS...usually never moves from 100FPS, steady. Looks good too!
