Heck yea I've got info (http://www.gamercenteronline.net/2008/06/09/first-call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-details/)! It's going back to WWII, which is a good thing imo even though I enjoyed cod4 for a time.

COD4 was no flop. COD3 was the flop.

The cod games have been getting worse and worse since they started to make them, everyone says the list goes cod1>cod2>cod4, but ive never played cod1, only 2 and 4, but everyone (well, everyone at cybergamer) says that cod5 will be cod4 with aim, which I am starting to agree with. Cod5 will be bad, cod6 will most likely follow suit, and then everyone one will be looking for a new game to play, which will hopefully bring back cod2 *crosses fingers*
Theres my 2 cents...

Call of Duty 5 is being created by the same studio that made Call of Duty 3. There are two seperate studios that have worked on the call of duty franchise. But the general consensus seems to be that COD 3 was a flop of a game and the studio that put that game out (Treyarch) puts out lack luster call of duty games. COD 4 on the other hand was a much more "original" entry in the series. COD4 was more original because it was handed off to a different studio (Infinity Ward). For whatever reason the publisher of the COD series (Activision) seems to be bouncing back and forth between the two studios to get a yearly game release so that they can milk the franchise. The effect this has is that there will be no logical "flow" between the series. That's why COD3 was lackluster, and COD4 was a hit. That's why COD 5 will probably not be to hot, but COD 6 will. (From what i hear Infinity Ward gets COD 6). I think its really stupid that they are going back to world war II, They saw that it was a huge hit to move the series away from that genre and now they are just going to put out a crappy game.
Doesn't matter though, The people who don't know any better will still buy the game because they will remember how much fun they had playing COD 4
In short, If you liked COD 3 you'll probably like COD 5 as it's being made by the same guys. IF you liked CoD 4 however, odds are COD 5 will be a game you can skip and not feel bad about missing.

Wow, much bashing of Treyarch in here (COD 3 studio). Let me present my view...
COD 3 was never bad. It just wasn't up to the level of COD1/2. Had that exact same game been released under another title, while it may not have set the world on fire, it would certainly not have copped quite the same amount of flack as it did. It was simply an average game in an exemplary series and I think that tended to skew people's perceptions of it.
The other thing is that COD3 had a rushed production. It was developed in 8 months whereas COD5 has 2 years. This will make a huge difference to the overall quality of the game. In this time they will have been better able to take on the extended play testing and QA session feedback and tweak the gameplay.
And finally, don't knock it till you've tried it. COD3 may not have been too crash hot, but this isn't COD3 where talking about. If you were Treyarch, wouldn't you try to take on what was said about COD3 and make sure your new game rectified those problems?
The reaction COD3 got is not something I imagine a developer wishes to experience twice.
So to sum up, COD5 may turn out not be on the same level as COD4 or COD2 but that doesn't mean the game won't be fun on it's own merits. Don't judge a game based on just the people developing it. Try it out and actually play it before you decide you hate it. You might just be pleasantly surprised.

Sorry lol, Didn't mean to come off so negative. I don't mean to say i would never TRY call of duty five, just recalling what i have read around the internets. I personally don't own any of the games as i'm just not a huge fan of WWII shooters, but if someone came to me and said "hey you GOTTA play this w/ me its fun", I would def give it a fair shot.

My post wasn't directed at just you. Whenever COD5 gets a mention anywhere, usually gaming sites, there's always some wag who pipes up with the usual "z0mg COD4 was t3h win!!1 y dey go back to wwII dey suck!1!" crap. My post was mostly a retaliation to that sort of nonsense.
And I must agree, when I first heard Treyarch was handling COD5 I was somewhat dissappointed too. Now though, while I'm certainly not as hyped for it as I am for say, Far Cry 2 (), I'm being cautiously optimistic about it.

I've never played far cry. Does far cry 2 run the same game engine as crysis? I love destructible environments. I honestly can't think of any shooters that I'm super excited about. (Except bioshock 2 but thats gonna be a while.)

Nope, different engine (different developers). Crytek (crysis) and Ubisoft (far cry2).

Nice thoughts there guys (thats not sarcastic btw) I just really think that cod5 will be bad. The studio doesnt really have a very good track record (not putting them down... much :P) but i am in favour of the change back to ww2. Although people say that cod4 was the best game ever, it really wasnt. Call of duty 1 and 2 were by far the best out of the cod series (and will most likely stay there imo)
The thing with cod4 is that it was terrible. The game was extensively modified by gamers around the world for it to be a bit more competitive (there are 3 'promod' versions in aus) what IW/treyarch nned to do is spend a GOOD amount of time developing a better, more engrosing game. I mean, id love it if IW went back to ww2 and made a really great cross between cod1/2 with some new features, but I really dont think that gonna happen.
Discuss more.

Actually it is being released on the 11th November 2008 in the USA and Europe.
I have played the BETA for PC and my views are meh, so what.
I think the series went downhill after they started making the game with console in mind and PC as an afterthought (CoD3 for example). CoD3 was the low point of the series, it was a really bad move for them to only release it on the PS3 and 360.
CoD4 brought the series back up to scratch and restored some of their lost respect but really wasn't what people were looking for. The CoD series (to me) Is about re-living historic (and sometimes forgotten) battles from WWI and WWII, not modern/ slightly advanced battles against terrorists. I never got into CoD4 (IMO the dedicated knife key is as bad as hacks). If I get it it will be for the single player aspect purely.
The biggest downer for me about CoD5 is that they once again made it for console and did a crap port to PC. As soon as you fire it up you can tell it has been ported. The graphics are very poor. Grainy effects and lack of detail dominate. I car run this maxed out (including AF and AA) with a forced res of 1600x1200 with the game never running lower than 65-70fps. The gameplay aspect is fine I think but once again they are using the dedicated knife (hack) button.
CoD fan boys will love this game (because they are fan boys). The game is pretty much CoD4 re-skinned with WWII attire and then ported to consoles. If you look at it from a neutral ground like me you can see that it's nothing too exciting. I am really disappointed that they decided to design it for console first and PC second.
I will be really surprised if they decide to make a CoD6, IMO they have milked this genre dry. A once great series has been tarnished by the PS3tards and the Xbox 3sh**ers lol (no offence to those playing ont eh PS3 or the 360).

Its some WWII thing, I don't know about it. Although I heard the graphics on it will be worse than CoD4....?

Actually the graphics are slightly cut done from the CoD4 engine. As I said before the game was made to run on consoles first with PC as an after though. The consoles can't run the game like a PC does hence the crappy graphics on PC. The funny thing is that I have seen a clip with the 360 actually lagging while playing this game lol, not net lag, graphics lag. That was from closed testing a while back though, they have further cut the engine down since then.

Goodness gracious. At this rate they are going to make more games than Final Fantasy.

Got the game from Santa:banana:(for the PC).Have to admit i like it.
There are a few minor niggles,if you stay put the enemy keep respawning so you cant just sit and pick them off.Yet if you run through them it gets a lot easier:(.The dogs quickly become annoying as do the over use of grennades:mad:
The maps i think are nicely detailed and the multiplayer is fun (haven't tried the co-op yet).It has a few surprises, the artillery is great.Laughed my socks off the first time i got hit.
After reading some off the comments above i was thinking off leaving the game alone, rather glad i didn't.

I went to gamestop to either pick up left 4 dead or cod5 and left with neither. CoD4 didn't last long online rank wise... and I don't like the stats being held on PC side at all. Granted, I love cod4... I just can't justify paying ~60 bucks for a game that you rank so quickly in not to mention rank means jack **** since you can download 'em anyways.
I played l4d on a 360 the other day and it was pretty cool which means it should be awesome on PC but again, I can't justify paying ~60 bucks for a game that was A) 35 bucks on steam a couple weeks ago and B) the same **** over and over and over and over... especially when it's just a glorified CS:S mod.
