Technically, this isn't an easter egg - an easter egg is a feature that is hidden in the software. What this does is allows you to telnet, basically connect over IP, to the site towel.blinkenlights.nl and view it in the text-only telnet window.

An actual easter egg is something like the Jack Black/Jennifer Love Hewwit spoof of Lord of the Rings on the Fellowship of the Ring extended edition set - something that is hidden in the product itself.
