My first car. 1966 Chevy Impala. Original 283 small block chevy under the hood. That thing could fit a small mexican family. Scored it for $900. Let go a couple of years later because I couldn't afford to restore it like I had originally planned.

Congrats on your first car. Mine was a 1988 Chevy Caprice Classic that I got for $100. The engine had a spun bearing in it and I drove it like that for 6 months before I swapped the engine. I miss that car.

My first car was a 1968 Chevy C10 pickup. It actually belonged to my dad but I was the only one who drove it. The first car I paid for was a 1988 Plymouth Reliant. $800. That one was fun till I went to have the front end worked on and found it was splitting right down the middle between front and back seats and the shop refused to put it back on the road.

$500 for a 1984 VW Rabbit which required an additional $250 worth of parts to make the transmission work. The little car ran well for another 100,000 miles.

Congrats!!! My first car was a 71 buick Skylark, 4 door SeaMist Green.. actually it was my parents. The first car I bought was a 1979 Malibu Green for $1000.. but it didn't last too long, since a buddy of mine that was following me, decided not to stop at a red light. So then I was stuck with the Buick again for a few months, until I picked up an 83 Z28, for 1700 bucks, and it is still sitting in my garage. :D

As others have said, congratulations! My first was a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440. Paid $800 for it and it was cherry. Thing polished up like a new penny. I loved that car. Then I killed it, rolled it twice off a dirt road, through a barbed-wire fence and into a farmer's field. I still miss that car. This is your first one, you'll never forget it. :D

Followed that with a 1972 Coronet Custom, owned by a professor (friend of the family) who was absolutley meticulous in everything he did. I swear that car looked like it had rolled off the showroom floor in 1972 (other than the odometer). I killed that one, too.

Went on to a 1974 Satellite Sebring Custom, huge car with doors as big as an airplane wing and a hood six feet long. It was like driving a submarine. We won't go into what happened to that one.

Next was 1973 Satellite Sebring Plus, 400 engine with auto on the floor, otherwise identical to the '74. I sold that one and moved on to more "responsible" rides. :) I'll see if I can find a pic of the '73. The only pics I have of the '66 are after the murder. :(

Edit: I found it! (While looking for it I discovered that I still have the key to that first '66.)

Well your probably not going to believe this but here goes...
I grew up in a collage town (My dad was a professor), more years ago than I'm going to admit, and was an avid cyclist. I rode a Schwinn Varsity 10 speed that I had added several replacement parts to lighten the beast. When I finally turned 16 I realized how hard it was to go on a date on a bicycle so I started looking for a car. A collage student had a 1963 GTO convertible. It was blue with a white top and in cherry shape except that reverse was out of the transmission. The student was tired of pushing the thing out of parking spaces and buying gas. So I offered to trade him my bike for the car. To my surpize he accepted my offer! I found a tranny for $75 and went to work. Of course being 16 and irresponceable, I tore the car up, doing fishtails and dounuts. Oh how wish I still had that car!:banghead:

Ohh yea my car is a 1998 ford escort station wagon!

W00t Escort represent! I am probably the resident Ford Escort expert here. I am completely serious, if you need any help let me know. If something goes wrong with the car let me know. If the car dies let me know.

The first car that was mine was a 1991 Mazda Protege (all US 1991+ Escort/Tracers were based on this car). However my particular Protege was beat to hell by my mother and did not last until I was able to get my license. I then convinced my parents to buy me this 1996 Ford Escort:
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/6/web/2310000-2310999/2310140_157_full.jpg
Unfortunately the engine dropped a valve seat and my parents got rid of it (grr I had engine swap plans). I guess it is for the better because I can now focus my attention on the project car I bought over the summer.

Meet Meia my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 S/R, technically this is the first car I own as I have paid for everything myself on, including purchasing it.

Grats on your first car! It's a great feeling.

My first: 1986 Volvo 240DL Sedan 5spd.

-Thing was a tank. Loved it. But, It was the most disgusting yellow color in existence. On top of that it had layers of sap from years of sitting that I couldn't get off no matter how hard I scrubbed. Then I made the sad, sad, mistake thinking that painting the steelies silver after cleaning them would look better. It did for the first week until I realized I forgot to clear coat them, and was left with silver disgusting peeling wheels lol.

Followed by: 1996 Eclipse

-Dropped, kitted, swapped and turbo'd. Soon sold for more than I had put into it. The thing was clean, but wouldn't have lasted without a garage and on Mass roads.

Then: 2000 Mercury Cougar V6

-Great little car. V6 was peppy enough for me then. I really miss having a coupe now...Ohhh how I miss the low seating and 2doors.

Current: 2003 Dodge Srt-4

-Great vehicle, have had it since that same year. Parts have come and gone. Planned on a lot that never went through when I got sick, then college hit me again after being sick and all my savings for it went to the better decision: college.

So cars come and go. But just enjoy your first while you can. You always get that excited feeling when you get a new car, but (in my experience at least) it doesn't last like the feeling that comes with the first. No matter how much of a crapbox things may be, you always respect that first car. :)

Yeah, it's either always garaged or in the school parking lot (high school.) It could surely be stolen there, but the chances of that actually happening are reasonably small. I live in Loveland Colorado, there isn't exactly a big car-theft thing going on here.

I activate the alarm when I go south though. Bad neighborhoods.

My buddy has a Corrado... You describe it perfectly. He really enjoyed it for a few weeks but then it all seemed to slip down hill from there.

From what he has said when he was researching about it, they can end up being very expensive to keep running. Thats not to say they aren't cool cars though

My first car was a 1983 Plymouth Reliant... a K CAR! 2.2l 4cyl and a 5spd.. it was an old ladies car, so I got it for $700, with only 80,000km on it. No rust, it was in perfect shape, except for the fact that she smoked in it. After a couple days of serious scrubbage, it was clean.

I drove it for a few years, and then hit a deer with it on the highway, and that was the end. Next up, I bought a 1989 Daytona Shelby. Fastest car I've ever owned (and probably will ever own again..) , I did the computer, intake and exhaust, high lift/duration cam, advanced timing, cooler thermostat and plugs, etc etc. It was close to 300hp at the wheels from a turbo 2.2! I went through half a dozen clutches, and 2 transmissions in less than 2 years though. I finally sold it when I went to work in Russia.

When I got back, I bought a 1990 Dodge Shadow ES. A turbo 2.5l engine was under the hood, but was a bit neglected, and the paint was terrible.. peeling off in big patches. I got that car close to 250hp at the wheels with similar tuning, and it was automatic, so a bit easier to drag with. An ill-timed u-turn ended that car a year later.

1988 Shadow followed.. dead stock, what a dog. Ended up throwing a rod in that engine (oops, oil leak!), so I parked it and bought a 1992 Crown Victoria. Ex-police car.. I loved that thing! It had 350,000km when I got it, and I drove it for 3 years, and then sold it to a friend when I had a chance to get a 1997 Chevy Astro LT. All leather, power everything, miled out though. I traded the van away 6 months later for a 2006 Escape XLT which I still have.

my dad owned a Volvo 740GLE and sold it when it had 890k on the clock, thats right, just short of a million miles, and it still ran as good as new, and could outperform some sport cars of today, it only had a 2.5l Turbo 4 speed with overdrive but BOY could it shift if you burried your foot!

Grats! My first was a 1998 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer. The V8 engine saved 4 of my friends' lives when I wrecked it. Some stupid itch was driving without her lights on at night, and I made a left turn in front of her. Didn't see her til the last second, and she didn't brake at all. If I hadn't of gunned the engine she would have T-boned me and flipped me car into a concrete barrier. Thankfuly she just rammed my tire and spun us around...

Cops couldn't prove she didn't have her lights on, and the witness that said she was speeding and didn't attempt to avoid the crash (i.e. not paying attention to the road) left before the officer finished taking the accounts.

No worries though, cause 3 months later my father's rich girlfriend-at-the-time gave me a 1996 BMW 328i convertible for about $1000 cause she didn't want my dad to leave their date to pick me up from work, haha!

Beautiful 245, Omega! How're you liking the brick so far?

I've yet a chance to drive it personally, but it's got a real nice, smooth ride, if not kinda boatlike (planning on getting some suspension components for it), the engine is strong and has a nice meaty tone to it, and the transmission is far better than I would expect any auto to be.

Congrats on the first car!

My first was a 1995 Dodge Intrepid and she was a great car but my favorite is the one I have had for a while. My 1993 Ford Bronco XLT. She may be big and a little hard on gas but I feel safe and she has only let me down once which was just an alternator problem that I fixed for $25.

Happy motoring and many enjoyable miles to you!

Yeah, the red-block engine has a sound of its own, particularly at idle. Quite pleasant and distinctive. Y'know, they made a 242/244 Turbo model with a turbocharged version of this engine... since you seem to be on the other side of the country, I can tell you this, as we won't be competing for parts!

And yes, the suspension's a bit soft, but not unpleasantly so, and visibility is second to none.

I don't know exactly what engine is in my brick, I've been meaning to figure that one out.

I know they made turbo bricks, but chances are I won't be turboing mine, Probably the most I'll do performance wise is some new iPd cams, maybe a new fuel delivery system, and a new exhaust system.

I can tell you, though, that this is the first in what will be a long line of bricks I own. I love this thing.

Yeah, and I'm going to do my best to buy Honda. I love my little Acura. The rice is delicious, by the way.

As promised, here's a pic (which happens to be the only pic I have for some odd reason) of my first car, in all of it's early 1990's glory (goofy assed caption bubble included, free of charge):

1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille with a 472 V8. One of the rocker arms went through the oil pan about three months after this picture was taken. But hey, I had fun.

And yes, before anyone asks, that is indeed a mullet.
