I read that about an hour ago or so. This wont be the last time it happens. As far as I see it, if Mccain gets elected, Palin will be president within 2 years, if Obama gets elected Biden will be president within 2 years. So lets cut out the middle men and just vote for the vice president now. Just sayin

Ah, America. This country never ceases to amaze and infuriate me.

You'd think in the year Two Thousand Goddamned Eight, racism in this country would be well over with or at least very, very minute. Well, nope, as we see here, there's obviously still a lot of hate and discrimination in our country and it's popping up on a national scale again. I know that if Obama wins the presidency there will be much more of the same, but that doesn't mean I'm any less pissed about it.

Maybe it's just the fact that I live in California, the state that is arguably the bleeding edge of fighting for equality and abolishing prejudices against any and all racial groups or minorities of any kind, but I see no logical reason for prejudices or racism.

And here comes a Neo-Nazi group of all kinds, arguably one of the worst kind of white extremist groups you could have, plotting to kill a presidential candidate, probably just because he's half black. These people had hate and prejudice ground so hard into their heads that they said they were willing to die trying to kill Senator Obama.

I know it's a right we have in this country to be entitled to our opinions and beliefs, and in so far as that goes, I am horribly torn between two ideals, both of which I hold. Either the government only interferes when the situation becomes a threat to others, like in this case, or the government makes a push to abolish groups like this altogether, helping make the USA a better place. In one case, you have the ability for these groups to perpetuate the teaching of their ideals, but on the other hand you have the government overstepping their boundaries. It's a lose-lose either way, I swear.

Sorry for the rant. **** like this just lights a fire under my ass.

Honestly, I don't think if he gets elected Obama will die of old age. Even if he doesn't get elected his chances aren't too good.

Personally, he seems to me to be the only sane candidate there is, but I expect certain things from specific minorities in the US. If I recall correctly, this is not the first foiled attempt on his life.

It would be nice if racism and discimination and hate were gone or even better than it used to be but it isn't nad probably won't be for a while. This election will make it worse. If Obama wins the black supremest groups will be worse because there is a black president. If he loses then the white supremest groups will celbrate a white president. There is not good outcome on a race front.

I totally agree with you on this. The government needs to step up and take responsibility and eliminate all the radical groups in the US. But most of the radical groups have connections with lawyers or people higher up in the legal system that know how to keep the groups legal as long as they don't step out of line like these two did then they can mainly fly under the radar. It's a shame they can hide behind that law like that, but that's the downside to the amendment. Just my .02.

I do agree that alot of these radical groups are way out of line most of the time. But I honestly don't think this is a place for government intervention. No matter where you go people are going to have opinions, and beliefs that differ from others. Some will have stronger beliefs then others, and under the United States Constitution they are protected until they break the law. This is a fact that I accept knowing that I am also protected under the Constitution for my beliefs. Now when a group goes to far such as this case, by all means the members involved, that break the law definitely need to answer for their crimes.
For instance I do not agree with the Neo Nazi groups what so ever. Personally I would like to see these groups just go away, BUT I am not willing to give the government the control to abolish groups like these, because then it would open the door for them to start regulating other groups, whether they be racial, religious, gender, or anything. Next thing we know it could be illegal to paint your face your favorite sports team colors and run around hooping and hollering at a home game, because it could be defined as "radical". I know this might be seen as taking it to an extreme, but when the government is involved I think we need to really look at all the possibilities at where it could be taken, even the extreme.

As for discrimination, that too is going to happen whether we like it or not. The government has setup the laws that protect those discriminated against, but really its not their place to enforce what you believe. Only to make sure that you "act" accordingly. The only way we can truly reduce discrimination starts at home. We learn most of our discriminating ways (not necessarily racial) from our parents. And we either overcome them or re-enforce them through our experiences. I try to teach my children to be tolerant of their fellow man. Which I believe is the key, whether it be racial, religious, or even the idiot that cuts you off on the freeway. I try to teach them that that we are all humans and deep down we are not above nor below any one else on the planet. It will never go away, but hopefully it will be come the minority vs the majority over time.

Just my .02 as well take it or leave it. And yes Omega it amazes and infuriates me as well.

Prohibition never works. These people are ignorant and hate filled. The only answer is education.
