I'm still a big fan of the Xbox360, though the PS3 is starting to gain some ground now. To be honest though, I still only know 3 people with a PS3, so I'm probably not the best to judge on that system.
What do I love about the 360? Everything.

I personally like the PS3 better. But I haven't had much time on a 360 and am not used to the controller. From what I've played on there I'd say it really breaks down to what games you want to play as to which system to buy. I'm a huge fan of most of the PS games but that's because that's what I've played forever. Next system I buy may be a 360 because I do like Halo and some other 360 games.

....the PS3 is starting to gain some ground now....
by the time PS3 actually becomes popular, we'll provably get the next console from Micro$oft.
I dont think either or is better than the other one. both have great graphics and good features. PS3 does have some titles from series that go back to the 90's PS1. 360 is creating it's own library and most good games come in both flavors. the 360 has been out longer than the PS3 so it's got it share of fans. same thing with the PS3, Sony has had lots of fans since the PS1.
it all boils down to preference. I love my 360 and wouldnt spend my money on a PS3. not because i think it sucks but because i don't feel the need to own both. if you were to gift me a PS3 you bet i'd go out and buy PS3 games.

I think I prefer the looks of the PS3, but for functionality (media centre with windows vista) and the amount of games, the 360 is my choice.
The 360 has a lot of games, as the coding required is similar to windows. It uses a form of DirectX, hence the name Direct(Xbox).
The PS3 might be more powerful on paper with it's cell processor, but programmers havent fully taken advantage of it yet. And for that reason, the xbox 360 will always seem more powerful.
We probably will see the next console from microsoft before the PS3 will be more popular, as DirectX 11 is only just round the corner.
They will probably release it when they release windows 7, as they will try to integrate it as much as possible. I'm also guessing they will include capabilities for home server as well.

If I had the money, I would buy a PS3 first.

I like the PS3 more because I tend to see it as a blu-ray player that can also play video games. (with a growing list of titles, including quite a few popular titles)
But if your a hardcore gamer, I would go with the Xbox 360. Mainly because if you like to play online against other people, then the 360 online scene is where you would probably want to be. You'll also usually find more 360's at lan parties too.

Thats another thing thats cool about the PS3. Its online network is free, whereas 360 charges a fee.
Xbox Live:
$50 - 1 Year
$20 - 3 Months
$8 - 1 Month
I THINK those are the prices anyways, I could be wrong.

I like the PS3 For the free online, the bluray and that you can run linux on it. But I like the range of games on 360 much better and also the streaming media abalities are great to. In the end I got a 360 as it is cheaper and it is great when you have people round to get some Halo3 going as basically everyone can play.

I've heard rumours that there will be a third-party bluray player for the 360 soon. Don't then moan and say we shouldent have to pay extra, as the PS3 is way above the cost of a 360.
Nothing against sony, or the PS3, but I think that the 360 is better, especially from a development point of view. The architecture is very similar to a PC, and pretty much uses the same programming librarys too. The XNA programming libraries allow you to easily make a game of your own, and sony have slapped a massive price tag on their development kit. Therefore, more developers are swinging in the 360's direction.
Sure, the PS3 has some rather good titles, but it's all down to the developers. They have the ability to influence a console's uptake.
It's a shame that GTA 4 isn't on PC yet, as the PC was the home of the GTA franchise from the start. (1,2 and 3 at least).
Money no object, I would have the PS3 for it's looks and bluray capabilities, but the 360 for gaming and other multimedia. The 360 would fit in a lot better with my home setup, as I currently dont have a front end for multimedia on my TV. I hate having to disable SLI so I can use my TV for multimedia.
I understand why Microsoft have 3 tiers for the xbox 360, but that's only on the price warfront. For the 360 to stand up against the PS3, you have to compare the elite with the PS3.
They are both really good consoles. It's all down to preference.

I think the best thing to do is try to give each one a shot before you buy. If you've got a buddy who owns one/both so much the better but if not head on down to the mall and spend some serious time with the demo consoles. Play all the game demos available there and play around with the console's features to get a feel for how the console operates and how the controller feels in your hand. I never bought a PlayStation because I don't like the way the controller feels in my hands.
Also look at the games on the shelves and the accessories available as these can be a determining factor. For example, the 360 has lots of first person shooters so if that's not your thing that can influence your decision.
Basically, you're trying to get a feel for the 'personality' of the console and see if it matches up with what you want from a console.

With the addition of trophies for the ps3 its pretty cool. When home comes out it will be amazing and free! Oh and you can stream pc games to the ps3 with linux....just a bunch of random cool stuff.

You most likely pay for it in the extra cost of the PS3 over the 360.
I think that they are both amazing consoles, but it's down to what type of games you play, how the remote fits your hands and the menu systems. If you want a multimedia system that is seperate in design from your PC, go for the PS3. If however, you want a multimedia system that fully integrates into your PC, go for the 360.
I would only use ither of those consoles with a HD tv. You lose so much of the detail in the games when you play on a standard tech tv.

I have the Xbox 360, and I don't really like it thus far. I've had to get mine fixed twice (on my third new console) because of disk drive failure and motherboard failure, respectively. During the initial release of the PS3, there were a few defective consoles, but that was it, from what I have heard. Reliability-wise, the PS3 would be a better choice, in my opinion.

The new 360s with the smaller die size are better, though.

Little Big Planet is on ps3....not 360.
Which is fine if you are looking forward to that game, but to someone (such as myself) who is not that interested in LBP it's not that important. Of course, the same could be said of the 360 (Gears of War 2, Halo, etc).
So saying "Well, Game X is available for this console, therefore this console is better" is not a good argument since the it's completely subjective and falls flat if the person you're convincing has no interest in that game and most titles are cross platform nowadays anyway. Out of my collection of 22 Xbox 360 games, only 5 are 360 exclusive.
I understand that probably wasn't your intention aintnothang as you probably just pointing out what you see as an advantage to the PS3 so I'm not really sure where this rant came from :P. Probably from built up nerd rage of fanboys saying things like "But Haloz iz on teh 360 so da 360 is better!!1!".

I have both consoles and yes I find myself playing the 360 more often now but that is for two reasons, when i lost all of my save data for COD Assassins Creed and Oblivion I lost the desire to play the ps3 simply because I could not see putting all that time back in especially on oblivion because I was the leader of three of the guilds by that time. In all honesty the system that has seen the most play time recently is the psp, but the custom firmware with emulators is mostly to blame for that.

Hmm... im going to have to go with 360, just because of the controller design. I had a PS2 as my first system, and the controller hurt my hands after long play sessions... Only issue i have with the 360 controller is that my hands get all sweaty...

The 360 Controller is definitely the superior controller of pretty much all the consoles. Whoever designed that thing needs an award or something. lol

Cant say i am impressed with it.

Here is a great list...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_exclusives_%28seventh_generati on%29
The 360 Exclusive game list is at least twice as long, but then again, most of those games don't appeal to me anyways. Although, the same can be said about PS3. So really, as far as buying a console for the exclusive game rights, I really couldn't care because the games I like are cross-console compatible. :)
That and I don't care much for Halo, which makes me extremely odd apparently. That has to be like the number one reason why people buy Xbox isn't it?

only thing halo has is the multi player, otherwise it's a useless game, so your not alone :)

Odd you should mention that - I was playing COD MW2 the other night, and wandered up behind some guy at a window. Pulled out my .44 magnum loaded with Full Metal Jacket Rounds, (oh and I also had Stopping Power Pro enabled)... Took my time, lined the gun up with the middle of the back of his head and fired one round. He then turned around and stabbed me..... lol
