What is it low, mid or high end? What kinda price range are you looking at?

I am trying to figure out my options. If I have something in each category I can look and see what the differences are and then go from there.

quite extremist, wouldn't you say, Mal? But then again, an intended price range would be nice

I am willing to spend about $150 on a mobo...depending on how much the CPU would be. I saw the posts earlier and I just got my Maximum PC Building A Dream PC book in the mail so I have been reading up.

And yeah...that is a little extreme....OR IS IT!!!!!!!!!:D

What are PCI-E and AGP? Remember I am in the rookie corner. ha ha

He means a PCI Express video card, which is capable of delivering about double the bandwidth rates of AGP 8x, but current games dont really require that much bandwidth,
or AGP vid card...which would be the type of card you most likely have now
i am getting my system this xmas and i still am going to be using my AGP geforce 6800, but PCI-E will be teh future of cards so it depends what you want
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1087
theres plenty more info out there, just look it up on google...i read somewhere that AGP cards will be safe for at least a few more years so i'm not too worried about PCI-E yet

Valid Question.

PCI-E = PCI Express and is going to replace AGP the current standard. Its not going to happen over night. So AGP will be around for a while.

If your going to piece out parts from your current system then I would look for one that has AGP.

well...piecing out parts from your old PC doesn't necessitate agp. Unless you are specifically planning on reusing an AGP vid card. If you are building a pc ground up, PCIe is far more future-proof. You will have more upgrade potential down the line.

but that is just my $0.02

This is definitely from the ground up. I am running on a three year old Compaq. I NEED TO PLAY BATTLEFIELD 2 and FALCON 4.0 ALLIED FORCES.

IF you live in Australia, I can design a system for you in about 5 minutes with full specs and price. But I work towards a 'limit'. Therefore you would need to give me a budget!

Anyway, where do you live in the world? Australia? USA? Ireland?

If you purchase a PCI-E Motherboard, you must get a PCI-E graphics card, unless you go with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081

But I really wouldn't recommend that if your building a new computer with previous parts. I own a DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D and has done me well. You can check it out here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152

If you don't play on going with Nvidia's SLI I would definately recommend that board.

I like that link Prodigy. Like I said I am building from the ground up. All new parts. I don't think that I can salvage anything from the compaq. The only thing I have added in there is an nVidia GeForce FX5600.
