My older laptop shows 1.2 GHz after the 1.8GHz. What up with that?

Mine shows 2 as well. I _think_ the first one is the rated speed of the proc, the second is what it is actually running at. At least as far as I can tell.
EDIT: No screen shot but mine says Pentium 4 3.00 ghz first and 3.06 second. And no I am not over clocking... Everest reports 3.066 as well.

I think Airbozo is right on that. I was looking on the web about that the other day because both my desktops show a slightly lower number after the first number and the second number. I can't remember where I read that, but I think it was on an overclocking site.

The P4 3GHz actually runs at 3.06. That's just what it works out to after multiplying the FSB. The first speed is the rated/advertised speed, and the second one is the speed that it is actually running at.

So mine is running 600MHz slow?
EDIT: Nevermind. I flashed the BIOS and it's fixed.

Intel Speedstep will slow the CPU based on power savings and usage demands, and power saving profiles will also slow the cpu to the number shown on the bottom. :)
I've occasionally seen mine as low as 600mhz. :D
