Back again after 2 months to piece all random images in my head for this. Matriarch came along with Paperazzi but opted to work on Paperazzi first. Nearly started it while in the early stages of Paperazzi but went against the idea. Paper is the main sculpting material again but won't be used on the whole case. Same case as the one in Paperazzi. Got scratched quite badly so my friend offered it to me for only 35 bucks (12 USD) instead of 110 that I paid for the first case. Wanted an ASUS case (not those fugly shaped ones) which is uber simple and nice to cut, but doesn't have any stock from the supplier.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Image008.jpg

This what its going to be like, so you figure it out in your head. I don't do renders since its all in my head and I have problems putting ideas onto paper or softwares. The in/out airflow will remain the same as my last 2 mods are except this time the HDD will be moved to the top panel, outside of the case.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Insides.jpg

These will go to the left panel and the front panel. I still haven't done any for the top panel, not sure if I want to.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Image017-1.jpg

Base extension will be using 5 of these. Keyboard and mouse slider will be underneath the case on some UV green AcrylPanel. Will be getting them legs from another friend's shop for 50 bucks (about 15 USD). Customer accidentally broke his glass stand few months back. Well, my gain. The screws fit perfectly into the holes on the bottom panel.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/ssrod.jpg

Got my prize pack for July MoTM courtesy of AC Ryan (a big thanks to them and those who voted for Paperazzi). There are 2 AcrylPanel (UV Green & Blue) and 2 AluPanel (brushed green and gold) but going with UV Green and brushed green panels for Matriarch. So yeah, its gonna be black with green for the whole theme. Just stripped some parts off last nite, wanna cut into the chasis first before stripping the rest. Scroll on.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Panels.jpg

This is where most of 5-litre worth of paper go to. This is the first sculpt I made for Matriarch. Its the chest and neck. Will be mounted/glued to the left panel after its done. Inserted 2 tubes to allow wires to run all the way up for a simple LED set up. My chair actually squashed the thing once when it slipped, so had to redo it, after the chair has its share of bouncing off the walls a couple of times.

+1 black dragon, the Matriarch herself. Since its a she, I won't give it an "im-gonna-eat-your-momma" look. She'll have a proud/cocky look instead. Had to leave the gap open to run the LEDs in and then cover it up, leaving a gap for the glow. More or less based on this red dragon sketch from D&D (I don't play it, I know nuts about it, don't ask me about it)

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/LowerJaw1.jpg

Goin up slowly

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/UpperJawstart.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/UpperJawfront.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/3quarter.jpg

Additional minor details

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image002.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image001.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image004.jpg

There will be 3 lines for LEDs in her head, the permanent running ones will be the on/off indicator LED and the line for another single LED. The third line of 2 LEDs will serve as a backup, well, just in case (idea credit goes to p0Pe). Two small piece of slightly-bent UV green AcrylPanel will be her eyes. Still a lot of detailing to do for both the chest and neck right now.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image012.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image011.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image013.jpg

The whole idea is to have Matriarch popping out of the left panel, claw marks and claws next to it to reveal a bit of the insides, and one wing and tail for the right panel. Another set of claw marks and claw will be on the front panel (that's why I didn't karate the doors off the panel this time) for top-front intake.

Instead of working on the exterior of a stock keyboard, gonna strip it, take the insides, and build my own keyboard that will be part of the case along with the mouse. That will be worked only at the end of the mod. The keyboard and mouse panel will be stuffed under the case itself with an extension to the base.

Thats all for now. Be back soon.

Neck-Chest Part II

Some minor detailing on the chest up to about an inch off the tip of the neck. Still somemore to do.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20ChestNeck/Image031.jpg

Head Part II

Now this has grown. With some simple add ons while waiting for my dremel to cool. Some extensions to the sides and top

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Head/Image024.jpg

And then some more detailing yesterday. Horns added just an hour ago. Squeeze mold again like Paperazzi's front panel.

Done on the night the worklog started. Broke into two parts yesterday and got it fixed today.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Tail/Image016.jpg

Here I do it like the test mold 'horn' in Paperazzi with the rib thing. Not finished yet.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Tail/Image032.jpg

Claw Part I

Um.. claws. To be refined.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Matriarch%20Tail/Image020.jpg

Front Panel Part I

Have been waking up very late into the afternoon these few days so didn't do much cuts. Only finished cutting the redundant stuffs out of the chasis so started a bit on the front panel claw marks.

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Image025.jpg

http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t352/aceytlv2/Image033.jpg

Btw, its stuck and the cutting disc wont go through the whole piece. Any idea how to get rid of them? Can't pop them off either.

Finally, some little Paint thing I did for the HDD enclosure. UV green AcrylPanel. The feets will be done using paper (notice the little dots thingy in the Tail section?)

LOL. Thanks ppl. I just joined the neck and head together and applied glue, waiting for it to dry. No pix for now, gonna get my resistors, workbench, and a new drill tomorrow.

Kinda heavy for paper. I don't know if epoxy-ing it to the side panel will hold. Le sigh, so many AluPanel cuts to do, not even started on the HDD and ROM cage, the wings, hell I havent even touch a single panel :(

Epitome of laziness.. not done drilling yet. Probably will finish drilling tomorrow and start cutting out one of them first. I think I screwed up one of the holes near the edge of one of them.

Neck-Chest Part III

Some mixed updates. Worn out from workin on it for 5 continuous hours yesterday. Snapped the neck again after attaching it cos don't really like how the LEDs are sitting in the head. The eyes are from this extra piece. Cut and snapped off and then filed the edge. Inserted the eyes into the sockets from the inside.

Almost finished cutting one side of the alupanel for the left panel (bottom). Been working like 10 hours on it for the past 3 days and now halfway into the other half.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/ahhhh.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image047.jpg

Not smooth at all, I think I need to have my balls reattached when it comes to using the dremel after almost a year of not touching it. But I got other plans for the cut out once its done :naughty: Doesn't seem to fit the theme so... paper will come in again.

As for the HDD rack that will go on top of the case, these will hold the HDD onto the top panel.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image042.jpg

Just lined and cut out the required plexi for the enclosure but haven't start splitting them. Square "C" shaped that will enclose the HDD from both sides separately. 8 pieces will be used (4th piece at the back of the 3), about 5-6cm tall including the separator when its done. Yet to cut out the fan bracket for the top piece.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image038.jpg

Too much time on hand while waiting for both my drill and dremel to cool so did a little mod on the workbench.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image050.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image049.jpg

Major update. Damn its more tiring than office work.

HDD Rack

Just filed them today. No sandpaper yet, prolly gonna go get some tomorrow. I need to re-cut another one as the drill got "over excited" on one hole thats meant for the jig.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image056.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image015-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image016-3.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image021-3.jpg

I'll need to cut that replacement piece and then starts drilling before working on the top panel (cutting hole for the cables)

Wing

This will go on the right panel. I needed a spine to mold it on as its really fragile to try something that long and with spokes solely on paper. Thats the only steel hanger I got, the rest are plastic lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image051.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image052.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image060.jpg

Right now I'm going onto the first spoke so probably need a couple of days on it.

Left Panel Grill

Too stubborn to use the jig. Dremel took me about 3 days to finish it and it looked like crap. Thankfully, its gonna be covered with paper. Unfiled pix.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image055.jpg

Filed, and cut out the UV green plexi to go at the back of it, same size as the grill.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image017-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image020-1.jpg

The screws that will hold all pieces together will be placed into the holes prior to being paper-covered, I don't want those ugly things to show. This will be on the bottom of the left panel. Yet to cut into the panel itself.

Front Panel Grill

This, pulled the jig and finished in under 1.5 hours. First, unfiled & horrible. 2nd pic is where it'll be.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image007-9.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image013-2.jpg

Filed and with a matching size plexi to be attached to it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image019-2.jpg

I'll have to cut into the front panel to embed the grill into it and then paper em.

Fan Feet

This time instead of attaching a grill to the chasis on the front and mounting the fan on it, I'll pull the fan further back so I need something to hold to the ROM cage and the fan itself. Took 2 of these plastic L holder. Filed the center thing that and snip off/filed 1/4 of it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image004-9.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image003-9.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image005-7.jpg

Time to test the height. The floor of the ROM cage will have a layer of plexi so I'll need to make sure the fan stays even.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image006-7.jpg

Perfect.

Screws!!!

Had a headache running around to find something that will look good to hold the HDD rack together. Was going through my box of screws and pulled these out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image009-7.jpg

Then I squeeze them together into the tube, and made 2 for trial to see how well they hold.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image010-4.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image011-4.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image012-2.jpg

Perfect. Won't come off by shaking nor tugging and pulling. So went to the hardware shop and grabbed 30 of the screws since I was down to my last 2 while experimenting.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image008-8.jpg

Then comes the problem, the hexagonal screw aren't of equal length for the legs. Solution.. went to my friend's pc shop and raided his giant box of screws. These chrome ones are all of equal length, and grabbed 60 of them for free :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image022-1.jpg

So far, I've stuck in a dozen of them but I'll need about 24 for the HDD rack itself. For the ROM probably 12 to 18. This is how they look now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image023-1.jpg

Thats all for now. Been wrecking myself these few days. Still engrossed in observing the screws. They look... complicated :D

Left Panel

Not much time spent on it but progressing quite well with the jig deployed instead of the dremel. Having problem drilling the holes into the effin thick panel.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image034-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image045-1.jpg

Covering the alu in paper is a pain in the ass. Took 2 hours for such a small piece to maneuver around with 2 philips screwdriver instead of fingers.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image043-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image041-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image039-1.jpg

Wing

If you ask me, this is the hardest thing to deal with. Friggin fragile so have to go slow on it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image044-1.jpg

Head

Ran the LEDs through and covered the top of the head. Still very much more to work on the lower jaw, neck thickness, back of the neck, and top of the head. Those horns looks out of place so gonna break them and redo.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image047-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image046.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image048.jpg

The back will be glued to the panel after some cuts. Got two of these from friend's shop and will cut into them to join the wires.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image049-1.jpg

To think the head is almost finished but yet there's still more -_-

HDD Rack

Screwed them in after drilling the holes just now. Yet to sand them, don't really feel like sanding or filing when I'm doing mostly cutting and drilling at the time.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image035-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image038-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image037-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image036-1.jpg

Thats a mock drive, a dead one from my friend's shop. With the holders on it'll be about 5mm taller than its position so the L-shaped corners don't interfere with the cables. Still need a top layer for a fan and to stabilize both sides.

Misc

Bought this mean lil thing for 19 bucks my money only, 1 liter. Got some on my thigh when I got the pull-tab off, and boy they burn really bad within seconds.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/aceytlv/Image026.jpg

Will be in use after I cut the left panel. Nothing much to take out from the top and right panel.

So far most of the cut-outs aren't filed properly or sanded yet. Man, I just hate steel.

I'm feeling lazy again now. Gonna go and get 2 80mm with UV CCFL on them for the top. Still deciding if I wanna paper the whole case. You know.. steel... I'm not really a steel type of guy.

Soaking the paper. Just finished the last day of that stupid work yesterday. Should resume once the paper are all ready. Glad I left the done parts to cure for one whole month and didn't spray them. They appear more scaly now.

Btw, could use some help over at BT's Mod of The Year 2008 thing :D

LOL. I'm having fun with it except the drilling part so I might have to have another way to work around attaching the HDD cage on top. Seriously the thickness of the panel is killing me. Just waiting for my half a pail of paper to soften before I restart. Meh.. I hate waiting

Some pix will be up soon, stuffs are done and been there for about a week. I really need to stop frequenting pubs almost every night and change my timetable of sleep-wakeup-pub-repeat.

TADAAAA...

Got yall thinking me dead eh? Lol, just settled in this new city but without an internet connection of my own and the cybercafe's located in Twilight Zone (I still haven't found one so far). Have to make rare trip to my bro in law's house to come online. Problem is, I'm rebuilding the whole project again. Cos I chucked everything I sculpted away when I move back including the casing itself (except for the dragon's head). Can't afford to pay the uber expensive overweight charges for the flight.

Another thing is I got bored out after finishing the head cos everythign else that remains really makes me fall asleep. Wings, tail, claws.. wasn't having a single bit of fun at all doing those. And you know how much I suck and hate cutting. So fiddled around to see if any changes can be made, and the best option I have in hand is to rebuild the whole damn thing, totally different. By going back to what's fun; freestyle molding just like Pprz.

So.. a Tony Stark head-in-water moment came, and with the material all ready just need to grab another case within this week. Cant upload any pix now so probably be back next week.

p/s: Mod please advise if the rebuild should be under the same thread or a new one. IDK how these things work. It'll still be under the same project name.

Good to hear from you mate, it's been a while. A real shame about you having to throw away your pieces, I can't wait to see how you turn this around.

Keep it in the same thread cos it is the same mod, you are just redesigning it. If you had finished it and wanted to make major changes then you would make a new thread.
