I have a sound card I took out of an old 2000 Dell. Is it too old that it won't make a difference, or will it actually help?

What will you be putting it in? If it's a new(er) computer with HD audio, you will probably be better off with the onboard, but depending on what that is, it could still be better. The Realtek HD audio has a very quiet sound output.

Any sound cards that you would remove from a Dell of that age are either a Turtle Beach card (!!!!) or a Creative Card. Either one would likely be an upgrade from onboard sound, but a model number or something would tell us for sure.

Can you give anymore information on the card, or even the Express Service Tag from the Dell?

You likely wont notice much of a sound upgrade, except perhaps better stereo separation and imaging. Performance wise, this will help since the CPU wont have to run the onboard sound.

Oh okay. I'll use it then. I think that the cpu help is enough of a reason for me to run it besides the audio.
