So I just got myself a lovely HIS IceQ4 HD4850 512MB Graphics card.

Most reviews had this card Idling at 38C, and Loading at 56C. Well mine idles at 44C and loads at 69C+. So I check and see how much air is coming out the back. I can barely feel air even when I crank the fan up to 100%. So then I look at the fins on the fan and notice that the fan is spinning in the direction opposite for the fins to move air!

So I have three questions for you guys:

1) Do you think the polarity on the fan is reversed somehow?

2) If so, should I contact HIS about it and ask for an RMA, or should I try and fix it myself?

3) How do I fix it myself?

Thanks,
Indybird

Hmm.. well, I didnt think that you could flip the polarity on a fan and have it still spin.. I could be wrong though. If that's the case, could you not just pull the wires from the connector, and reverse them?

If something goes "sideways" though, you could lose your warranty. Maybe contact them and ask if that'll void it.

Nope, you can't, not with brushless fans.

xmastree explains why in this post (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showpost.php?p=164690&postcount=4).

As for why it's doing this, it's anyone's guess. Talk to HIS about it.

I flipped the polarity of an old fan from a broken power supply. It worked using the correct polarity. It did not turn with the polarity reversed. Then I put the wires back the right way and it moved slightly and never moved again after that.

So be careful if you want to try that with a fan that you might care about.

i think ther is a chip that prevents it because i think if u didnt have it the fan could generate electricity back into the line which would be bad

It is probably just a simple diode. I probably destroyed the diode on that fan when I reversed polarity.

I'd say contact HIS about it.
