Well as the name suggests I am modding my olderish dell D610.

It has an ATI X300 graphics chipset that just gets burning hot.. so I decied to cut this thing open and see what I could do. :D

Pics comming in a bit taking a while to upload them :(

Adding pix now :D

Before the mods.. Hot ATI chip is there

Here it is working after ripping the parallel port and the serial port off :P

The disaster .. while removing the plastic that protects the mobo..

What it should look like :(

But I managed to fix it with super glue and some weight to hold it in place.. ( solder would not work.. most likely the iron i had at work was not strong enough )

Nice work. It's hard to mod laptops in any way. +rep

agreed, I see very few laptop mods as I think they present many more challenges. Great job!

Ya doing the laptop was kinda a scary thought for me at first but .. I keep telling myself that it is only a computer. Just in a smaller box.. The worst part of it is because its mobile, I feel like I have to finish it off good. If only because lots of folks will be looking at it, and using a big mound of duct tape to write up notes in class is not cool.

Very nice. Glad you got it back working again. Looks like it should help a bit with the heat produced.

I've been working in secret on a laptop mod. Muahahaha. But unfortunately the camera has been in for repair, and that's why I haven't let any info leak out yet. ;)

Hint: Red Oak, Red and Black Acrylic, Slim Desktop

Anyway, Looks good. Once you've got the heatsinks all modded what next? Open system as is, or an enclosure, or back into the original laptop case?
