Does anyone know if there is anyway to turn one computer with multiple monitors into two computers with their own separate mice and keyboards?

My room mate and I are always fighting over who's turn it is to use the computer, which I usually win because without MY monitors there would be no monitor to use at all. lol

If not, then meh, it works still I guess. One person watches movies and stuff on one monitor while the other does what they want on the other monitor. But sometimes we both need a keyboard and mouse, which is when it doesn't work out.

Maybe have two os's one running in vmware or both in vmware that only use certain dvi and usb ports so then you could share the computer.

I know you could do it in linux with separate X-server sessions, but I imagine it would take ALOT of trial and error to get it right.

This company has been around for a while selling this product that says it will do it, but I have no idea how well it works.

http://www.thinsoftinc.com/product_pc_sharing_betwin.aspx but its a bit pricey.

I did a little checking and found this thread on the Ubuntu forums.

here is a link from that thread to a how to..

There are some interesting hits on Google using the term Multiseat.

Hope this helps.

Whoever doesn't own the computer needs to buy their own laptop.

You can get an Asus Aspire 1, 120gb hd, kind of like the EEE for $350.

Yah but what are you going to learn doing that? Also I think if there were $350 involved.. they would have already had a solution. :D

Its actually neither of ours, it belongs to our other room mate who is currently in basic training for the national guard. He's not using it, so we are. :D

Bingo. ;)

I plan to buy a laptop as soon as I can get approved for a credit card. Yep, I'm going to deal with the devil himself. I'm fairly confident in my ability to handle it though. I make enough to make monthly payments, but not quite enough to save up and get one anytime soon, somewhere around 7 months of saving up most likely, and I'm not a very patient person. lol
