Well I enjoy the Idea of having dual monitors, I was angered to find that my video card only had one dvi and one vga input slot(s).

(ps my graphics card is a 6800 regular)

Depends on the monitor you want to run. If you want to run two dvi flatscreens, you will probably need a second vid card, but you can pick up a cheapie for about $40, most likely, to drive your second card. If you want to run two CRT, that's simple. Get an adapter to hook up to your DVI output, that allows you to hook a CRT monitor to it. I've done this before, and it worked fine.

Then again, you can always run one of each, but if you want to go with two monitors, you almost definately want to flatscreens, as having to CRT monitors side by side will take up a ton of room on your desk.

Dude, proof-read your posts before posting them, i could hardly make out a word of that!
For what it's worth:
I run 2 "CRT" (Shouldnt that be VGA? :S ) monitors, one of which uses an adapter plug to plug into the dvi port and it all works fine!
Peace

make sure that you have a card that can handle the resolution of dual monitors too. I am running 2 24" widescreen CRT's with a total res of 4608x1440. my friend brought his PC over and tried it out but his card could only support 2560x1024 normal dual monitor (not dual widescreen) and seeing as how he was getting the same widescreen monitors he was a bit upset that he also had to get a new video card to support the monitors he had already ordered :p so would be good to check into that if you have an older/low end card. I run a Quadro FX1000 card for my monitors btw.

With that card, you should have no problems running two CRT/VGA monitors. I would recommend looking for two of the same size, preferably with a thin outer rim and flat screen, so that you can put them right next to each other, to reduce eye strain. One other thing I always look for in a monitor, and feel is more valuable than others seem to give credit to, is a black case, instead of white or silver. I feel that it helps to enhance the screen size and detract from the environment while helping focus on the screen itself.

Pretty much everything you need to know about running dual monitors has been said, but I would like to add one thing.. There is a pretty nice utility called UltraMon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/), it adds a lot of nice features for running dual monitors. I run dual CRTs at work and dual LCD's at home both using Nvidia cards and once you get used to it.. Its hard to use anything else..

Yeh, most new nVidia's support dual monitor output. Its a great thing.

Is it a 6800 ultra, or a 6800GT? Or jsut plain ol' 6800?

A quick way to find out is just to look at your outputs. do you have mroe than one output jack? If so, 99% of the time it will support dual monitors. The standard 6800s support one DVI and one Analog output, the ultras support two DVI. (dvi is blue, usually, analog is white)

Yes, the card can physically handle it. Yes, Triniton monitors are very good quality.

At home I run a 6600GT and it has dual dvi's that runs 2 LCD flat panels with no problems, and at work I run a GeForce 5600 with 2 19" Trinitrons (one with a DVI to RGB adapter), so your 6800 will be just fine..

BTW

(dvi is blue, usually, analog is white)

The DVI's are white and the analog 15 pin RGB's are blue. ;)
(just bustn your chops.. heh)

Same with my FX5600XT....... although I've lost it since then............

Rankenphile

yeah, mine came with one too. Since I only use analog, I just keep the adapter on the DVI port all the time, so I dont lose it.

Not bad...

one thing to keep in mind - Shipping to the Continental 48 states is $45.00 for this one.

i love it when they tell you all about is and how great is is and then at the bottom they list the condition as "NEW, FACTORY BOX REFURBISHED" and then it becomes very clear why it's so affordable lol :p don't get me wrong though, i'm not against refurbs at all, i just don't prefer them, and the many different ways that sellers try and obscure the fact that it's a refurb makes me laugh :p

nice monitor though, would look good to have 2 side by side and both being under 300 bucks together with the high shipping cost is still a good deal...nice find

Durrthock
12-10-2005, 03:09 PM
yea it would olny be about 200 doallars for 2 shipped
i really have nothing againts refurb my comp is and it great but i picked it up for 1200 less then origoinal price

so the monitors are in good shape do you think? And they are high quatily because i am a hard core gamer ..

If so how are they

adreamtraveler
12-10-2005, 07:02 PM
yes, i use dual Sony FD Trinitron GDM-FW900 24" Widescreen monitors...i would not trade them for any other monitors in the world (except the newer version of them) lol...they are awesome...no complaints at all....well.., one..they weight about as much as a baby elephant, so they're a pain to move...but it's worth it :D

I got 2 Dell FPW2005 20.5" Widescreen LCDs going through two KVM switches that are in turn driven by an AIT X800XT, BFG 6800GT OC, and AIW9800Pro (single monitor). Soon there will be an SLI rig setup, but that I will probably run DVI to the monitors.

I used to have 2 NEC FE1250 22" CRTs with the same setup. The LCDs are a wee bit smaller. :D

Check this (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3300986) out. It accepts good old SVGA, it's LCD, and it's Dirt Cheaptm. I don't normally endorse Walmart, but it is a good deal. Also, if you go to your local physical store, you can get them for $145 with no shipping costs.

Check out ULTRAMON (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/)

On Nvidia cards if your using span mode (ie Res is 2560X1024) the taskbar will extend across both screens. If your using Dual View then you will need something like UltraMon. I had that problem till I found it..
