I was coming home after spending the evening at a triva night and I was driving on a main road through the bush and I can smell smoke. The smoke around keeps building. I turn off the aircon but there is smoke still comming in to the car. I roll up on a bunch of fire trucks with firemen running around with hoses. A firefighter waves me on so I keep driving the smoke is getting worse. It is now pretty hard to breath and my eyes are just starting to water watering I go into a minor fit of coughing and almost come off the road. I pull my t-shirt up over my mouth and nose and put the pedal to the medal and eventually come out of the smoke.

It was pretty touch and go there I could have come off the road the speed limit was 90km/h (55m/h) which is what I was doing.

What I don't get is why the road wasn't closed. I think it was meant to be a controlled burn off operation but it wasn't meant to start until the weekend.

So if you see smoke just turn around. I couldn't as it was a dual carrigeway with a central divide.
