I picked up an athlon xp server out of the trash last year, along with a nice printer. I cut a window in the side in June, and replaced the fans with some nice thermaltake ones with blue LEDs. Yesterday, I finally got to modding the bezel. I have cut off some plastic, and added some bondo to it already. It is coming along nicely, and I will have pics up later today. I plan on painting the bezel black (it's beige right now), and I'm debating on whether to leave the side panels bare metal, or if I should paint those too.

Now, TRWTF is why an Athlon XP was thrown out in the first place...

Keeping an eye out for pics, man! I know this is gonna be good!

Thanks for all of the comments.

Now, TRWTF is why an Athlon XP was thrown out in the first place...

I picked up two Athlon XPs from this guy before, numerous P3s, and numerous P3s. Last month, I got another two Athlon XPs, along with a socket 775 P4 3GHz.

Here's the pics.

I forgot to take a picture before I started, but here's one when I'm about half-way through cutting everything away.

With some Bondo

That's all for now. I hope to continue work on it next week. It's been around 20°F outside for the past week, and it doesn't look like that is going to change, so I might be forced to work in the garage. I still have to sand the Bondo, and add some more in various places. I did some test shots with my paint on scrap pieces that I cut away, and it turned out very well.

Good stuff, man. Looks like a great blank canvas; can't wait to see what you're planning to do with it...

It looks like this mod is going to be on hold until it warms up outside. It's way too cold out to do anything now, and if I work inside, there's a big mess to clean up, plus the Bondo has some pretty nasty fumes.

I don't blame you for waiting for it to warm up, I used to work on my mods in the cold, but never again!

Nice project. What are you planning to do with the extra space the server tower gives you?

I'm using it right now, and have the beige paint sanded off. The heat that does not get blown out by the powr supply or the exaughst fan below it can rise into the upper section, and go out a fan there. If I get some money, I might eventually setup a RAID.

I am going to begin to continue work on this mod, hopefully, tomorrow. Expect to see an update soon.

Cool. Good to see "old" machines getting some good use. Those Athlons are good CPUs; I recently discovered that a 2000+ will play 720p video, even. Better than my old P4 2.66.

The "old" one is getting some use in another case. I have my main rig in this case right now.

I took a little longer than I was initially going to to get started, but I'll have an update posted soon with pics.

An update tomorrow, I promise.

I've got a good amount of the Bondo work done.

A little late, but here's the pics:

For some reason, image shack isn't working correctly right now.

I tried some silver spray paint in the upper half to see how it would look.

So did I. I was like, "Woa! Cool, great way to spice up a mod!" Either way it seems to be coming along.
