Hello All!
Just wanted to let everyone in on an upcoming project we have going at my workplace. I work for a hosting company and we have decided to create the World's Fastest Server. This will also be a rather interesting mod. It is a load-balanced web server that is going to be built into a Drag Bike. I am trying to get the main constructor to sign up here an post the progress, but if not I will get the pictures and keep you up to date. Here are some of the specs we currently have worked out:
Fully Electric Drag Bike
Will be able to serve web pages while in motion
Various Web Cams
GPS Tracking and location
Virtual Instrument Cluster (Speed, Battery Power, etc.)
Pair of load balanced servers
Wireless 3G broadband internet connection
Windows 2008 Server operating system
Web pages will be served in ASP.NET using MS SQL
As I get more details I will let you all know.

Welcome to TBCS!
We are suckers for fast machines around here, so you are going to be getting loads of feedback from the members here about this project.
Dont forget to post as many pictures as possible.. we love to see works in progress just as much as a finished build. :)

:stupid: cant wait to see this one :D
Sounds like a decent build. What are the server specs? And, why choose a M$ build for a web server? Don't get me wrong.. I'm M$ certified, but I prefer linux for web servers.

Wow, I was going to say that is quite an ambitious statement "Worlds Fastest Server", until I read through it. I am with SgtM when it comes to linux, but I have to say that Microsoft has brought some awesome features to the table with Server 2008.

When I opened the thread I was expecting to see some seriously crazy hardware specs. But the idea is almost as crazy as the specs would have to be. Nice idea man, can't wait to see it.

Well, the plan is to have it up and operational as of Monday, March 2, 2009 @ 9am. And as I get the pics I will definitely get them posted. The server components have all been ordered, and should be arriving soon. I'm trying to get a base picture of the drag bike before any of the build begins just as a starting point.
Server 2008 is great for load balancing, which is why they choose it. I too prefer Linux and have my own Linux server, but since the company is sponsoring it and supplying the money, we are going that route :P

Looks like the motors have been chosen for the bike:
He hasn't posted any new pictures, when I talk to him next I'll see about getting him to get some progress reports in.

Hello
Seems they are a bit busy touring right now to get much posting over here, so I figured I would give some updates. They have it built, and have been showing it off at a few shows. You can see it at their site:
I'm a little disappointed that they don't have better pictures of the system or of the build process, but it is a commercial venture and more of a publicity thing for our company.

Soooo....you aren't posting your project here at all, and using our site to advertise your project which can only been seen elsewhere? Not sure I am fond of that.
