Hi everyone. I was following this Forum for a year now and finally registered myself. First of all i would like to say that i don't see myself to be able to create such impressive cases as you do but i will do my best and I'm willing to learn :D.
This is my first modification ever and as I don't have an exact plan what I'm going to mod, how I'm going to mod and what i can effort to mod :bunny: ....:D I called this Project: Long Term Mod.
My first idea was to put a nice Plexi window into my right sidepanel, and that's what I started with.
This is my Case: Nothing special

Tomorrow i will do some filing and hopefully cut the plexi, after the metal in my lung is gone :D
If i forgot something just ask. My head is empty cause it's too late :lick:

Since the side panel was black and the scratches weren't deep I just painted it directly. The resulst is quite good but needs more time to dry.

Thanks for your comments.:)
I'm still not shure about the next step. I'm thinking about working on the top panel e.g. another window or fan and maybe some sort of lettering on it. Also I want to work on the front and build a cover for it and add another fan which would be connected to a movement of the power button. And what could be the soonest step would be painting the inside of the case black. But first of all I'll have to plan it and get my ideas sorted and I'm still waiting for my 92mm fan for the back :D.
I'll keep you up-to-date.
So stay tuned ;)

Here we go again. I made up my mind about what to do next and came out with a pretty nice idea if you ask me :D
Next step is to mod the top panel and I made some small rebuild of it to show what it could look like. I have decided to add two 80mm fans nearly in the middle of the top panel and to cut out a 18 x 15 cm window in the front of the top panel. I would like to put a plexi like in the side panel but also to attach a picture of my deskop background onto the plexi. I'll have to ask a friend of mine if he could directly print the pic on the plexi. If not I should print the pic on a foil and put it inbetween to 2mm thin plexi glasses. Either way I will highlight the plexi with two 10cm blue cold lights I already bought.
By the way I also replaced the back 80mm fan with a 92mm blue led fan.
I'll up some pics later this night.
Stay tuned ;)

12-02-2008, 05:29 AM
looking very nice. Have been trying to pluck up the courage to do something with the top panel on mine, like the idea of putting some text into it :D Might try to do a Vitz window in it or something... lol.
Did you consider painting the inside of the case as well tho?
Bozzi
12-02-2008, 12:44 PM
Have to wait till camera is back home (couple of hours). I also though about a text for the top panel but considering the lights and the space which is not there I decided to do what I wrote to you :D.
Yes, I'm going to spray the inside black but since it's my main rig I'll have to wait till I have some time to do without it for a couple of days.
As the title says Long Term Mod

So now what I'm planning for the top panel. First of my desktop background
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/9115/dsc0001iy6.gif (http://imageshack.us)
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/dsc0001iy6.gif/1/w1500.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img87/dsc0001iy6.gif/1/)
Out of paper I did a model of the panel with the fan hole and taped on the pic to show where the hole with the plexi and so on will be.
Once done I want to cover the fans with some black mesh.

Great mod so far man, but I've got a question about your heat sink unit. It probably doesn't matter much, but don't you have it placed so that it is pulling slightly warm air up from your graphics card and through the heat sink, then blowing that warmer air at the PSU. And the PSU is also blowing warm air at the heat sink, effectively creating an air flow issue around your CPU.
It may not matter much, and it may not make a temp difference, but I'd suggest turning the heat sink unit 90 degrees, so the fan face the front of your case, thus pulling air from the front (usually cooler), and blowing the hot air out the back of the box. Take a temp reading before and after and see if it actually affects it, especially if the heat sink fan has variable speeds.
Bozzi
12-03-2008, 05:46 PM
hmm I don't think that I posted them twice. And checking it from my PC the Lap and another PC here at home everything works. I can see every pic and there are no rex x
Yeah your right about the heat sink never though of that. I also think that it doesn't matter much but I'll consider it when I am taking apart my case next time. Thx for your comment.
What I wanted to show you: Did some Sketchup for the top panel. Also first time I use Sketchup :D

Yea, it almost definitely wont matter much, I just try and look for optimization when I can. With those two 80s on top i doubt you will have any problems with cooling. +rep on the design so far.

bought some screws and nuts
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6581/dsc0050wc2.gif (http://imageshack.us)
ok thats it for the moment. I also sprayed the panel, the mesh and the screws but i don't have any pics yet. By the way I also bought the cold light maybe you saw it on some pics. I drilled a hole in the cover of the floppy bay in the front panel and put the button for the lights there. I'll take pics of everything when I have the plexi done and be able to mount everything. Until then have fun and fell free to comment ;)

I know it has been a while but this project is still alive ;) I was too busy this last month so I couldn't take pictures or continue this mod. But I finaly found time to take pictures of the finished fans on the top panel and also bought another 2GB of A-Data Vitesta Extreme DDR-2 800 RAM. Since the prices ar sooo low I just had to buy them. When I bought the first 2GB nearly one year ago I payed 53€ and know I payed 26€ for the same thing  That's crazy :D But enough I'll let the pics talk.

I still did not order the plexi for the area over the bay but I think I'll have some time to do that the next couple of days. I'm also planing to replace my 8600GTS with a nice XFX Geforce GTX 285 690M Black Edition 8). And I'm thinking about a nice Dual Core E8400; E8500 or E8600 instead of my overlclocked E2140 @ 3,2GHz but that's not shure yet. Anyway I hope you still stick with me and sry for the missing updates but real life sucks sometimes if you know what I mean ;)

I told you about my plan to replace my old 8600GTS with a nice GTX 285. And now have a look what came in this week :D

Those last updates where all about hardware upgrades but I also continued my work on the plexi sheet for the top panel. It's cut and ready to be printed on. Next week I'll go to my friends shop and we'll finish it. What comes next is to upgrade my CPU to a E8400 as I already mentioned and to start doing some plans for the front which will come next. Since my camera is not at home I'll take some pictures of the plexi and a new fan controller I had to install cause my old one died  this weekend and present them to you. If everything works out the top panel should be finished by the time of next week.

That is one sweet looking graphics card :D
I have a very similar CPU cooler to that. I think I just have the AMD variant of it. On my one, you cant rotate it 90 degrees, only 180. Mine is facing so the fan blows the air out the back of the PC, but the intel one might be just the orientation you currently have it.

Thx for the replies.
@ AMD Killa Yeah I though about that as well but I didn't try it yet. Maybe I'll change the CPU cooler when I upgrade but for now my temps are quite good 25°C inside the case CPU 31°C (with a E2140 1.6GHz OC @ 3.0GHz) idle and GPU 40°C idle too.
I'll upload some pictures of the plexi and the front later today.

Have some progress for you :D I was thinking about the new front when I suddenly had the idea of making a backplate for my GPU. So I started to work on it ;)
Printed the letters GTX 285 and cut them out then taped the plexi sheet and cut again
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/5085/dsc0003rf4.gif (http://imageshack.us)
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3699/dsc0005qz4.gif (http://imageshack.us)
I took my dremel and some sandpaper and what came out was this :)
http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/8469/dsc0007ko8.gif (http://imageshack.us)
smoothed the edges
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/263/dsc0011ad4.gif (http://imageshack.us)
and since I had enough time I also made one for my sound card
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7937/dsc0008ue7.gif (http://imageshack.us)
fitted both into the case
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/4427/dsc0012ci5.gif (http://imageshack.us)
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/1641/dsc0014qw6.gif (http://imageshack.us)
http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/8079/dsc0017nm1.gif (http://imageshack.us)
By the way on this pic you can see the plexi for the top panel. I'm going to print the image on it and then I'll place it inside the top panel. But you'll see it once it is done
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/8493/dsc0022be4.gif (http://imageshack.us)
Here you see the new fan controller
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/5865/dsc0034ro0.gif (http://imageshack.us)
Now I just have to drill holes into the sound card plate to mount it and get some distance pieces for the GPU plate.

The backplate for the GTX285 looks great.

02-03-2009, 05:05 PM
Thx mate.
Little update for you. I though about lightning the two backplates and came up with the idea of taking two blue leds for each plate and put them on one side. So I bought 4 blue leds 1m wire 2 switches 4 resistores and heat shrink tube.
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7914/dsc0001el7.gif (http://imageshack.us)
That's what came out :D
First one
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6574/dsc0003tq5.gif (http://imageshack.us)
Second one
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4182/dsc0004cg8.gif (http://imageshack.us)
Both
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/8661/dsc0005xp8.gif (http://imageshack.us)
And some nice blue light :) those are very bright
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6854/dsc0006mx6.gif (http://imageshack.us)
Now I just have to figure out how I mount them or if I even have to sand them. If you have any experiences with that just comment. Thx

By the way I upgraded my CPU yesterday to a E8400 OC @ 3.6 GHz and also turned the cooler that the hot air is blown out of the back now. Now the GTX 285 shows his strength :D I'll up some pics tomorrow.
Next step would be finishing the plates by adding the lights.

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/1771/dsc0179x.jpg (http://img18.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0179x.jpg)
I started by installing the pump and the res

Fits perfectly
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7681/dsc0191f.jpg (http://img15.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0191f.jpg)
To hide the cables from the front I took some mesh and created some kind of false bottom

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3159/dsc0192x.jpg (http://img19.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0192x.jpg)
After this I was able to do the paint
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2725/dsc0198d.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0198d.jpg)
While I had to wait for the case to dry I started to work on the Radiator
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3089/dsc0209jcn.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0209jcn.jpg)
I also used some mesh there to cover the screws
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3406/dsc0210h.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0210h.jpg)
Drilled the holes into the side panel
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1935/dsc0211m.jpg (http://img3.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0211m.jpg)
Then I also sprayed the side panel and the mesh black...
That is the first part of my update. Since it is to late and I have to get some sleep I'll upload the second part with more pics tomorrow. Enjoy what you see at the moment and feel free to comment.
See ya tomorrow

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8041/dsc0270k.jpg (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0270k.jpg)

http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1254/dsc0189c.jpg (http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0189c.jpg)
I started by sleeving the fans and installing them on the res
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4457/dsc0267b.jpg (http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0267b.jpg)
adding the mesh
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3900/dsc0272t.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0272t.jpg)
and screwed everything on the side panel
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/1769/dsc0276q.jpg (http://img21.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0276q.jpg)
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3183/dsc0278m.jpg (http://img22.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0278m.jpg)
Next step was to put the Heatkiller on my Mainboard and to put everything back into the case. In this pic you can see the black sprayed "false bottom" mesh. You can also see the sleeved front cables running under the mesh.
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9837/dsc0285b.jpg (http://img18.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0285b.jpg)

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/2058/dsc0286j.jpg (http://img10.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0286j.jpg)
Now it was time to do some Sleeve action. I started with the two 6-pin PCI-e connectors.

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9237/dsc0351m.jpg (http://img17.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0351m.jpg)

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/4609/dsc0358r.jpg (http://img17.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0358r.jpg)
The system is up running great having idle temps of 27 degrees the CPU and 30 degrees the GPU.
I allready sleeved the red, black, yellow cables from the fan controller and did nearly all of the cablemanagment.
Since I have to wait until my camera is back next week I can't show you any progress pics.
And there is still a lot to do on this project ^^.
Last week I received a nice package including a black acrylpanel from A.C.Ryan and a Scythe Hard Disk Stabalizer II to mount my HDD into a 5'' Bay and two fittings 90°.

I love those HeatKiller blocks, I am soooo going to use them in my next build. I have to say the loop looks nice and tidy, well done. The rad is mounted on the right side panel right? Those fans look really cool, may need to get myself some lol.

Hi everyone have some news for you. I have 98% of my work done. I cut some nice plexi sheets intalled 10 LEDs and did all of my cablemanagment. The next days I have to take pictures and do the last 2% and on monday I'm off for one week. So I don't know if I'll be able to give you the whole update until sunday or just some teasing pics. We'll see.

04-20-2009, 02:15 PM
I'm sorry I didn't even realize to give you some teasing pics. But now I'm back from my holiday trip and I can show you some results.
What I did is to cut out the transparant acryl and the black one and screw them together onto my graphic card, sound card, back panel, front panel and the side of my 5.25 bay. Then I added the LEDs and installed four switches into my front panel to be able to switch them on and off separately. Unfortunatly I wasn't abled to take much pictures today. But I promise that I will take others during the next days to show you the details. I hope you enjoy the results.
In reality the LEDs are brighter. I'll try to show it in the next pics I take.
