Good morning,
I was working yesterday, and seeing as how I work for walmart I thought Id share this with you guys. I realize its probably old news by now but it has impacted us at the store level, and we can see some changes definitely coming over this.
I guess I just dont understand the mentality that people bring with them when they go shopping. Is a 400.00 flat screen(which is bottom of the line anyway), really worth someones life and the possibility that you will get caught and prosecuted?

I heard about that, its redicuouls! some people amaze me, especially when they employees were telling people they had to leave so they could close the store, and one lady said "I've been in line since yesterday morning I'm not leaving" and kept shopping. I woulda trampled her! :devious:

I don't go out on Black Friday because people just lose their minds and manners just to save a few bucks. I honestly think they should enforce a first in line first to shop rule. Everyone can wait outside the store for hours but when they open the doors everyone just rushes in all at once. Even the people who just got there waiting in theirs cars jump out and rush to the front pushing the people out of the way who where in the front of the line waiting out in the cold. I hate crowds of people and try to avoid them.
Toys R us didn't do so well either.

I called into KOA News (http://www.850koa.com/main.html) radio out of Denver last night on my way out to my parents' place and this, along with the insanity that is Black Friday, was the topic of discussion. I am currently downloading the podcast from last night's show to see if I'm going to enjoy my fifteen seconds of fame.

This is why I avoid going out on the day after Thanksgiving. Even if someone doesn't get killed or anything like that, you know you are going to be slammed into, pushed, kicked, etc. With a bar in my chest keeping me in constant pain just breathing, adding that stuff to the mix just does not help.
None of the deals I saw in any of the ads were worth any of that. How can it be? Save a couple bucks to go through that, and then within a couple weeks prices drop to near that on many things anyway.
I try to keep hope for people, but when they congregate in mobs, they just disgust me. Look at the faces when the people rushed into fry's. Just fricken Zombies, with no care for anyone else.
And not much will change either, as retailers make too much money. Maybe if one gets sued it will change a bit, but the mob mentality will still endure.

I saw many identical deals on newegg. Best Buy had a 19" acer monitor on sale for $99.99 limit of 5 per store. Newegg had the exact same deal, although I ended up ordering a 22".

yean I worked for walmart for a few years and worked numerous black fridays. I watched two 50-60 year old women getinto a fist fight over atickle me elmo. I seen people try and steal somethign and get caught. I seen alot while I was working there. I had to open the door on one of the sales events as I was the biggest guy there. I truly feel sorry for the man and his family and I hope they prosecute everyone of the people that were responsible for this to the fullest. Just cuz they wanted that awesome deal on some stuff that reallly wasnt worth it now the family of the man who was trampled will not get to enjoy christmas with him.

We really don't have these sorts of problems in Australia, it's very strange. We get a bit of polite crowding, but little more...

same monitor. I got the ASUS 9800GTX+ Dark Knight, however, instead of ATI.

Funny thing is that the week before BF, Office Depot had the same exact TV for $379 instant!

I don't really understand why people get so violent and insane over such stupid stuff... my mom, brother, and I went shopping at a few stores later on in the day on Black Friday and there weren't very many people in the stores we went to.

Well, the main reason that we don't have polite crowding in America, like in Australia is because everyone is ruled by the dollar.
I work at a gas station, and finally, I don't have to listen to the people b*ing about gas prices...I mean, come on, in some places it was euros per LITER! we only had to pay 4 per gallon. I mean, what, a rough guess would mean that there are about 4 liters to a gallon...we didn't have it that bad compared to others, and we still complained. We're a bunch of whining misers. It's kind of pathetic really. The best part is that they would yell at me about it...I'm not OPEC, haha.
Yeah, this whole dangerous crowding happens at gas stations too...when we finally had our prices drop below 2 dollars...there were nearly 3 different accidents, which made me nervous around all those pumps...Some people just don't care about others, they just wanna save money and get as much crap as they can before they die.
Me? I'll just pay my bills and stay away from stores between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This really disgusts me, I see black friday as an example of our life style taken to the extreme. Material things don't matter this much. Why would i want to go through hell just to save 100 dollars on an HDTV, I would gladly save an extra month and by the HDtv at full price if it means not going through the agony of blackfriday. I really hope everyone of these people get prosecuted and sit in jail on Christmas day and/or pay a very hefty fine.
