Hey guys, well. After a long hard think i decided to give you guys some insight to my designs and ideas, I am also open for suggestions along the way. I am just wandering if the designs are basically looking alright and if i should rotate/angle them in any way.

Here is a bit of a basic overview of what i will do to the front panel.
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6416/picture2details1at.jpg

Here are a few designs i previously came up with.
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/9480/picture233lv.jpg

Here is the design i will go for, for the front panel.
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/1324/picture19mx.jpg

Here is the design placed outline on the case ready for cutting.
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/2161/picture40mb.jpg

Here is the whole panel with the design. (just to see what it would look like with the rest)
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4589/picture51zs.jpg

I am planning to maybe put metal mesh covering the cut-outs with fans behind them, or just lights. i am not sure yet.

I am open to suggestions on that one. Post what you think so far. cheers guys. (this is my first mod ever, btw)

Something else to think about ...

when you are cutting out the air holes on the bottom also include the ^ bump thinf on the front and smooth the edges down. Then replace the ^ with UV or a Colored Acrylic piece and use the Moders Mesh for the rest.

Just ideas.

yeh. i was planing to leave that ^ shape there. hehe, and was thinking about putting clear plex on the underside. looking out. (basically on the side where the pencil line is) but thought bending the plex might be too hard. i might try the acrylic and if i don't like it, i can always paint over it.

I'll have a play with those ideas, thankyou. I will try to get the cuts done today then give it 1 coat of paint. I'll see how i go. If i get that far i will post another pic.

I just made a few cuts on my designs. Looks okay so far i think..

Bottom Cut (Filed, but not sanded off yet):

Design Cut (Has NOT been filed or sanded yet, so looks a bit shabby. But you get the idea.

Both (Just for a bit of an idea what it might look like):

I will probably finish filing the designs and then sand off the whole cutouts. Then might spray it with black paint or make some cuts on the actual metal case itself ready for some spex addins.

Post opinions please. will be greatly appreciated

(BTW, The little round bit on the cutouts was when the router went spastic at me, but dw. I will file and sand it and you wont even tell the difference, just looks a bit bad now because i didn't have a change to file or sand it yet :P so ignore that, lol)

Also u will notice i changed the design a tad to make it a bit more semetrical. here is where i changed it...

EDIT: thought i might add this in now. When i get front panel done (not for a while yet) i will probably add something like this on brackets at the front

http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/4687/laserlightsdesign8kl.jpg

Would laser lights do in this situation? basically i want coloured lights with enough power to reach where the lines on the drawing do.

Cheers guys,

Laser lights might work for you, depending on the ambient light surrounding.

So far, so good. INteresting design. I can't wait to see where you take this.

Here are the designs in a BETA filing mode, lol. basically i will see what other tools i got lying around to sharpen up the points. Any suggestions?
(the filing is not complete yet, but this is what i did today and it took me quite a while, lol. very very fiddly.

Here is the designs filed in BETA mode, lol:

(yes 1 does look a lot fatter than the rest. I took this pic before i had totally finished filing as i thought i wouldn't get the rest done today. They are quite even in size now and just need the points made sharper. Also the lighting gives off that effect as there was not too big of a difference before i fixed it.)

As you can see i fixed the problem i had caused by my router going insane on me.

Basically i will plan to put some mesh behind it. in the first instance. with LED lights coming through.

I will probably spray on a first coat either tonight or tomorrow.

I just painted the front of the panel black, did 3 coats. Still needs more attention on the trickier spots on the next coats and just a general spray over the case. But you can start to get the idea off the following pictures.

Before the pics are shown i thought i would tell you about some new ideas.
I covered the oval bit with tape and after everything is painted black like i want it. I will be painting the other oval White, and the inner one either a blue, or using blue uv strips.
(I will also be going around each design's edge with a white line of paint to make them stand out more. As well as a few other things left for a surprise :p

Also, you may notice i fixed the points and middle up a bit too. :D

Let me know what you think so far.

Also, any ideas on giving the case that nice smooth finish after spray painting it? is there another spray i need? or what.

Cheers guys.

Have you been sanding between coats of paint and How long have you let it sit??

Viper-Inc
12-11-2005, 10:22 PM
yes i have been sanding, i know the trick. Makes it stick better :p

Well it is quick dry in 10 minutes so i left it at least 45 minutes before the next coat. These will not be the official coats. i am hoping to get some gloss to top it off.

first coat of gloss is on.

No pics at the moment because my pc died, literally. I pulled stuff outa it for my new 1 which will hopefully be ordered and in mid january some time.

I probably wont update much after this because i am on my dads work laptop and it is run from a network 4 hours away which when used on dialup @ home is extremely slow.

It took me about 15 or more minutes to load the tbc page and another 5-10 to load this page.

Hope to see you all when i get my new pc, where i will update with pics as to where i got up to. i wont be able to take any 'in progress' pics till i get my new pc as i use my cam and the work laptop has restrictions on connecting hardware and downloading software.

Talk to you all sometime soon, i hope.

Cheers,
