Other things i've done that arn't typical to a asus vento case.

the front power switch changes colors from red to green. it has a reset screw. and quad LED lighting for the front ducts.

I'm also using 110v fans instead of 12v there Dayton 120mm 115Cfm fans. And i've rigged up a 110v fan controller. i'll post more as i go. lol if i find out actually some one is interested in hearing about it i guess.

all of the heatsinks have been lapped i guess you call it. including the north and south bridge heatsinks. the 8800GTS is actually cooled pretty well.

heres a video of that
a1k7Pribx2k

That video is pretty old. it shows artic silver but i'm using the new ceramique stuff. actually works quite well after it sets up. with all the cooling i have now it's a base line temp of 125F and I havent seen it go above 151F. mind you this is a Super Super Clock Edition 576Mhz/1.35Ghz Spu's. It gets flippin hot.

Looks like Vader!

Everyone says its Darth vaders helmet when its black. if its red its a ferrari. green a ufo.

These really are 1 off cases. Suprisingly my case is around 5 years old now. Still looks brand new. I got this cause I was done with Rectangle stacks and wanted the easy way out. Stock cooling on it really does blow chunks. But it has potential to do well the main chassis is pretty much sealed except for the front intakes and rear exhaust. As of current at full bore 100% fan speed. at which on paper should be 230Cfm keeps the 8800SSC at a nice 123F idle and 140's on a good load.

oh yea more pictures.I'll try and explain as I go along. But I was never one for blogging about what I do.

I just ordered a Bunch of Crap. 5.25" LCD screen Controller, another rheobus controller, slot fan, dual 4" red neons for the front intakes and a Athlon X2 6400+ w/ cooler.

Twigsoffury
12-30-2008, 02:15 PM
So i got a Lian Li TR-5B

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/8128/tr5bsy6.jpg

Four thermal probes and three fan speeds i think. Manual or automatic adjustments. aluminum bezel and just about as big of a 5.25" screen you can make. It's semi monochromatic but for 50$ it seems about as good as what I could get outside something that resembles a Car stereo.

I'll post a review with pictures of it in the other department when I get it. I appear to be the first person on the internet to Order one as there are absolutely no pictures besides Retailer pics, no reviews and just about noone saying anything about them. No youtubes. No googles. no toms hardware really or TCBS.

Well hopefully its not crap.

Twigsoffury
12-30-2008, 02:34 PM
So some new stuff.

I found some nice aluminum 'esk paint. so I took the Front lifting rods apart and painted them. There flat Black on a Stock Vento. I'll do the guiding mechanisim later when I've got the patenice to do it.

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7534/dscf8852jr5.jpg

The black slit on the back of the rod is where the retention spring goes.

So for the Safety of My fingers and the Fingers of others I got a 120mm Grill for the back fan.I almost caught myself Slippin' one night with those 110v Fans going at about 75% of there speed. I soon decided that It needs a Grill ASAP.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/7567/dscf8848zx9.jpg

It'll be red like the chassis here in the next few days when it gets warm enough to paint in the basement.

Other things in that picture are the ghetto Cardboard slat test I have going as you can see. It Really reduced My tempatures So I'm going to have to Fashion one out of aluminum,Steel or Plastic. The 74mm Fan also on top of the card helps a crap load. Rests on the bracket screws. I know you'll say "they don't make 74mm fans"

They do for Humidifiers. My kids Grandma might of left it on the carpet so it burned up. But the fans and switches worked. Took out my micrometer measured across the gap. took that measurement and compared it to the bracket on the top. and it'd fit! so there you go.

I have a 75mm fan but it doesn't rest as well on top of the card.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/6686/dscf8847tz3.jpg

This is what that cardboard slat is for. It's a Jungle down there at the moment. I'm adding fans to those holes. just waiting on the fans.

It's really hard with this case since it's got a Sealed in Motherboard tray. No place to do secret cable stashing. Although i have a card up my sleeve....

Heres a Sorta Top down view in case you were wondering what that sticker said.

Scratch that Now it's 108.5 Idle 135F is the highest it goes it seems now.

Thank you riva tuner for manual control of my video card fan and that cardboard slat.

I'll post a youtube video of it when i get the time.

When this card showed up at my door it'd idle in the 130's and hover in the 150-60's under load.

Lol amazing what happens when you increase the airflow and surface area between the sink and componants.

That Ceramique stuff is quite amazing after a couple weeks of letting it do "it's thing".

Somewhere off in there are two Sli 7900GTO Ltd edition. (like 700$ back in the day) a uber Pentium Cpu, 2 gig's of ram and Asus Deluxe Sli/wifi/tv edition mobo. 1000GB hard drive plus more (1.6TB) i think

But its all on a dolly so it's easily wheeled around between places.

That computer is also extremely heavy. (50+ pounds)

heres another stack built for a friend. also has a 8800GTS SSC and a AMD 64 7750 Black edition (its quite fast)

wouldn't you know soon as that son of a bitch fired up again after 3 years of not using it. It cut the livin hell out of my finger. just like always. Guess this is the 3rd time its gotten me.

http://i42.tinypic.com/idcaaa.jpg

Just like old times.

that LCD panel tells me its spinning at 4540rpm and if i set it at 100% it spools upto 6100rpm.

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/4472/dscf8910gx8.jpg

So far I see it's hovering in the 90's (F) idle and gets upto the 130's (f) under load. I saw that stock fan let that cpu hit 155F and i said Hell no. I knew it would need it but I just wanted to see.

It's from the Thermal Take Volcano 12 cooler.

Yes i tried that heatsink and it didn't want to fit. thats a damn good heatsink that volcano 12. This one really for a stock cooler is extremely good. Hard to find a heatsink with the fins mated against the sink itself.

Twigsoffury
01-09-2009, 02:34 PM
Ran into a problem last night with that LCD controller.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2vucxvn.jpg
So I already knew the Rectifiers didn't have heatsinks like they should of. so i went digging and found that .45A is the most they'll carry. Guess what that red triple blade draws .45A. So i took it off and touched the first rectifier Burning hot. I mean BURNING hot.

So my solution

Hammer on a 6x6 inch piece of aluminum foil until it matches the size of the rectifer. Cut and fray the end.

apply thermal paste between aluminum sink and rectifer. wrap in VHB and this is the end product.

http://i40.tinypic.com/28cg1g1.jpg

Lol Looks like a ghettofablous zalman cooler. But it works great. It's only warm now.

Oh here is the re sprayed Grate. got a clear coat the other day.

10,098 marks on 3dmark 2006

33,376 marks on 3dmark 2003

that new cpu is really supreme stable. the Thermal compound is still doing "it's thing" but temps are in the low 90's now dips into the 80's when its absolutely idle. hits about 136-7F underload.

That cooler is great. guess I don't even need a fancy one.

If you have a lower speed dual core X2 socket AM2. I'd highly recommend upgrading to a 65nm Brisbane 3.1Ghz 6000+ X2. and it can be had for under 80$ on newegg.

4200 to 6000+ is like a slap in the face.

Couldn't imagine what a Intel would be like.

I looked it up and this specific cpu seems to be at about the same performance as a 6600 series intel dual core.

but intels have cache everywhere its no wonder they stomp on AMD's among other reasons.

Brilliant work mate, love that color combination. I never liked the Vento until now. +rep

I ran a Volcano 11 on my 4400+ for a while with the next-best Tt 80mm fan - had to wind it up to 4800 RPM for gaming or it would overheat! That case was rubbish in terms of cooling, though.

I don't blame you for not painting your Enermax - those are quite attractively finished, I've got a lighter-blue 420w unit in my backup machine.

Yea Its a Sealed Motherboard tray so theres no place to stash cables. And the side panel only leaves about 3/8" gap.

So all the cables go into the spare 5.25" bays. It's cluttered atm since all those new parts got installed. still have to figure out where i want my probes and stuff.

Ha thanks man. these fans do spool up hardcore. I added Bearing oil to this fan awhile back and it went even faster. dunno if its moving more air or not but that high pitched whine is there for sure.

yea No paint on the Enermax. I bought that back when AGP 6800GT's were top of the line. I paid over 200$ for it at the time. 600W was the best. It's a old one and the parts inside are a Hell of alot better then the Noisetaker II.

Something to be said for Enermax. 3-4 years of gaming almost everyday and the voltages are still what they were when i first powered it up to the dot. 12.03v

Or just a few holes with some rubber grommets. Will also add a bit of ventilation behind the mobo.

Or just a few holes with some rubber grommets. Will also add a bit of ventilation behind the mobo.

Theres no space behind the motherboard tray on this case. The other panel pretty much mounts flush with the mobo tray on the other side. maybe 3/8" at the most in some spots.

I've got a sinkplate mated against the back of the cpu bracket holder to help dissapate heat out into the chassis.

This really isn't you know a show room stack. i've always got my hands off in it. plus i take it all apart once a month to clean the dust out. So uber cable management can be a pain. I've done it in the past with stacks and always seems to be a pain in the ass when you've routed your cables all throughout the board makes something as simple as removing a mobo a complete pain in the ass if you know what i mean.

Gimmie a couple days to get some more spare time and I'm going to stuff n stuck some cables out of the way.

but i can see holes below the mobo for those usb cables

But sure would be a shame to tarnish 87$ worth of paint with a holesaw.

The boy 4rm oz

You don't need to full everything apart to clean it. Just use an air compressor from a distance (get too close and condensation may form), works like a treat.
