Does TBCS have a folding team? If not, I think we should start one. I know we dont really stand a chance against some of the teams that have been runing for years, but it could be another part of this community. And as we all push our computers further than the manufacturers dared, I think we have plenty of computational horsepower to rack up some work units.

If we aint gonna start one, can anyone reccomend a team I should join? I know it doesnt really matter, as all of the research ends up in the same place, but does anyone think there is a team worth the credit?

Forgive my stupidity, but what the heck is folding@home?

A distributed computing application designed by Stanford University.

Basically, you use your spare CPU (and now GPU through CAL and CUDA) cycles to 'fold' proteins. There is a client out for PS3 as well as windows. It's all for science, and when your computer is running it, your PC becomes part of a 'super cluster' with other machines around the world working on simliar projects.

Its basically a program that computationally folds different proteins. Its a distributed computing project that hopes to help cure diseases and cancers and such.

Basically it uses the extra clock cycles of your computer to do this "folding" in hopes to find cures.

Edit: Not quick enough at the draw. Ouch. Lol.

There are two things I like about this project:

1. You help to cure diseases.
2. Your PC becomes part of a super cluster :D

I fold, but I would like a team, so this gets my thumb of approval

It's an old thread, I know I'm not active (even though I should be).

I fold occasionally. My 8800GTX chews through it lol. I run the CPU and GPU client at the same time haha.

Can't wait until I get the 4870. I wanna see what it can crank out on this thing. :)

I posted our team number in this (http://thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?p=181579) thread.
