That's why she bought me an early Christmas present (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS22TWHSUV/ZA)...

Sweeet!

Nice monitor. Is it possible that she might love all of us? :D

Funny thing. There's a user guide on CD rom. When I plugged the monitor in, I couldn't find the power switch. Can't rtfm as it's on the CD...
Turns out there's a touch sensitive area on the front, where the power logo is.

Nice.

And bright. I'm running it at 30% brightness. More than 50 and it gives me a headache (and no, I'm NOT going to wear shades at the computer.)

Anyway, I now need some nice looking speakers to sit next to it. The current ones are beige, and the monitor is sleek, black shiny and sexy.

So, I'm after suggestions.

I don't want ones with a sub woofer, as I don't really have anywhere to put one.
Sound quality is of secondary importance, as the PC is also connected to a Denon UD-M31 and a pair of JVC bookshelf speakers. If I want music I use those.

The important thing is that they need to look good next to the shiny black monitor.

So, searching eBay for ideas, I've found:
these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230257406516), in the lead so far,
these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item= 110321266642), not sure, and I don't really have a spare USB port for the power. Look funky though.
I like these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320322968749), but without the subwoofer,
Or there's these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400008493275), but they use USB for the sound as well, and I have a perfectly good sound card. Probably a nightmare to get working with linux too. Pity as they really match the monitor stand. Probably suck though...

Finally, 560W from a USB port? (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250337585043) Gimme a break! Never in a million years can the 2.5W available from a USB port become anything approaching 560W, however you calculate it. That's one of my pet hates, quoting ridiculous power outputs from audio systems.
There are some kilowatt ones here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300278323859), small black and shiny too. Although I'm not sure I could bring myself to buy something so outrageously mis-represented (although it does say 3W rms in the spec).

Some might take offense at a statement like that! ;)

My wife loves me so much she's letting me go out and party tonight. :D

My suggestion: If youre happy with the output of the current speakers and you're a member of this forum, why aren't you modding those speakers to the effect you want. sand, sand sand sand sand....primer, etc etc etc. This way you only pay maybe 20.00 and get whatever effect you want.

just sayin

I'm not, really.

sand, sand sand sand sand....primer, etc etc etc.
They'd still be ugly, just black and ugly.

The trouble with these is there's no power supply, so I wired them up to the internal 12V. It works, but I can sometimes hear the drives spinning up.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/PC+Peripherals/Audio/Speakers/Advent/ADE-20I/434732

With the 'piano black' covers, naturally.

Update:
Well I installed them, but the audio cable doesn't reach from the top of the desk to the computer just below it. It's a paltry 18" long. That's 46cm to you metric types.
So the main one's currently sitting on top of the tower. It won't even reach the front, so it's half way back.

They sound better than the crappy ones I've replaced, and look nice too apart from the blue power LED, which is blinding. I think I'll muck around with that while I'm in there replacing the audio input lead (and invalidating the warranty.)
