This is a new thread for an existing project. I re posted because I had 2 projects in the title and I canceled 1, I didn't follow my plans for the project that I am completing, finally I changed the name of the project. Sorry for any inconvenience, I just want to keep the thread, and the build in the same direction. With that said, I will start off with the materials used. I am not rich by any means, so this was a scrap build for sure :) I used a cheap white shelf that I bought at walmart a few years ago, a few other pieces of wood that I had saves from a custom woofer enclosure I built. After digging around in my storage, I found a tool box with a mess of random screws, nails, and other random junk.

I started out buy gathering my structure material, or anything that I could build a solid frame with.

this is the shelf I snatched up, my wife was not happy at all :lick:
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0059.JPG

the original design was to have 3 stages, top stage was for PSU, DVD, LCD, and HDD, center stage would be the motherboard housing, and the bottom would be the sub woofer enclosure. I knew I had to use the shelf to the fullest, so I cut the 2 side boards of the self into 4 pieces. 2@14 7/8 inches long, and 2@16 1/2 inches long.

I like the angled top of the Antec 900, so I did the same with my build. Just a 1 inch difference, but adds a cool look

7 3/8 inch X 5 3/8 inch shelf I found tied the top pieces together
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0063.JPG

my mother in-law just destroyed a door mirror with her head, and not even a scratch, now I have more material!
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0066.JPG

this mirror frame trim is super easy to cut, and makes it so easy to mock up an LCD bracket
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0068.JPG

I should have gotten a pic of the fan cover, but here is a crafty idea that I found in my junk drawer, small screw and 1 of 4 corners that I cut
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0072.JPG

a full shot of the mounted LCD
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0073.JPG

assembled the motherboard housing
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0075.JPG

centered both sections and stacked them, now by this point I and brain storming and building, so this is where I stopped using the plans
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0076.JPG

side shot
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0077.JPG

without measuring, I found a spot to mount the DVD drive, I used some trim to act as guide
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0079.JPG

using 3 window blind brackets I installed the drive, and started shaping the face
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0081.JPG

I only had 1 piece of white shelf left, so I used it to hold the motherboard, in my original design, there was going to be a left side clear window. Well now its going to be a front window :)
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0083.JPG

did some thinking, and I was to use the L brackets on the hard drive instead, so I am making some braces out of sheet metal for the dvd
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0088.JPG

worked out pretty good, no give or vibration so far
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0094.JPG

dont like flat cables so I kept it real :lick:
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0095.JPG

I really liked this idea, I am mounting the hdd in an upright position
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0096.JPG

about 2 hours in, this is my progress so far
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0098.JPG

had this side panel sitting on my porch for a long ass time, finally found a use for it
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0099.JPG

more to come soon......

Is that a laptop LCD? Because if it is you are going to need a converter board, and they are quite expensive.

looks like one from a portable DVD player to me... almost identicle to the one out of my case mod...

I would recommend against putting the subwoofer into the same enclosure as the rest of the PC, as it'll shake that hard drive to death. :(

Cool idea though, and I'm looking forward to more progress on this build! :D

yeah thats an lcd from a portable dvd player, the woofer enclosure will be made from msd board which should stop most vibrations, plus I'm only using an 8" sony, thanks for the comment on the hdd mount, I thought it was a sweet idea also, wait until you see how clean the wiring is :lick:

that side panel with the window didn't fit, so adjustments had to be made
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0100.JPG

now that looks more like it
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0101.JPG

found this while digging around in my storage, might be useful
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0102.JPG

I wanted a fan on the window, specially because it was directly on the motherboard
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0103.JPG

this is the lcd I will be using, looks like I need to clean up the components
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0123.JPG

same tape job
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0125.JPG

more tape lol
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0127.JPG

now it looks ready for its new home :)
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0128.JPG

I spliced this cord together a while back, seems to work for now
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0134.JPG

thanks to my good friend, I now have the woofer that I needed :D
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0124.JPG

added some filler pieces of card board, also cut a soup can for the speaker mounts
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0135.JPG

first coat of bondo, this wont be fun to sand :lick:
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0136.JPG

first sanding of many to come, not too bad if I can say so myself :)
http://gladtesting.com/nigsta/107_0150.JPG

ran out of batteries for now, I will stop building until I can get more :(

The difference between the pre and post bondo'd images is amazing! I've seen it in lots of mods here but what exactly is bondo and what's it good for when modding? Good luck with this case, alrady looks great after just one sand!

yeah body filler really makes a great effect when trying to get a custom shape. unfortunately as of yesterday morning the top piece of this project wasn't effective enough lol. I try to bondo over clear tap, it worked fin until there was weight from the 2 speakers. so as of now I am working on somthing else till I get some cash next wed from my pay check. sry for the delay, check back for updates

ya know, even if you put the Sub in a different enclosure, there are bound to be plenty of rattles. What you might want to do is get yourself some Noisekiller or Dynamat and secure the inside of your PC enclosure against the bass. Might help and keep your drives more secure.

Noisekiller
How What Why (http://www.quietnoise.com/noisekiller/how_noisekiller_works.htm)

Dynamat Technicals (http://www.dynamat.com/technical_technical.html)

Dynamat is a little expensive, but its worth it. I had 3 12" Rockford Fosgate subs in a 1990 Chevy Beretta trunk when I was 18 and it rattle my trunk hinges off until I put Dynamat in there. Ten I used Noisekiller spray to create a seal over the dynamat. It was a little overkill. But after that, you couldn't hear the bass outsie of the car unless I rolled the window down.

Either way, it will help.

well it has been a good while since I've updated this thread. so far all progress on this build has stopped, I think I'm going to basically go back to the drawing boards with this one, and also use better material. Sorry everyone but this one is gonna have to wait.

How is the LCD signal input? I mean, RCA? A/V Input? custom?

Pedastriol

the cable its an s-video/headphone cord splice, it actually works perfect, no discoloration or fuzz in the picture

Is the original input or did you do some creative electronic work?
