Does anyone know anything about them? Apparently its a business class server, my google search doesnt show me any hardware information whatsoever. A friend of mine is giving me one that use to belong to a greeting card company that was liquidating its assets. Im not paying anything for it, but if it could be adapted for home use Id like to know.

I don't get anything but printers in google search. How old is it? Are you 100% sure it's called a HP 4600 VAX?

Are you sure it's a VAX? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAX) Those aren't common. Their name only ever comes up when I'm reading about Computer Architecture.

I have worked on the VAX's and I have never seen that model number.

VAX systems were produced by DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Equipment_Corporation)) who was then acquired by Compaq who was then acquired by HP. Check HP's website for legacy products. I am sure you could find out any info about it there.

EDIT: It May be an HP VAX 4000 /60...

DEC was one of the innovators of the early computer industry. Their computers worked well with the least amount of maintenance and downtime of anything except sgi systems that I have worked with. They all but invented the whole modularity idea of computer engineering. I almost shed a tear when Compaq bought them. To some of us it was like Saks 5th Avenue being taken over by Quickie Mart.
