Let me give you a little background story on Knight Rider CWC. Knight Rider is referring to the old show Knight Rider with the car call K.I.T.T
The case was started as a school project that I can do anything I want as long as I can relate it back to design process so I grasped this chance to mod and get marks.

The case will be all black panels, candy red chassis and peripherals accented with candy red. My original idea called for a tail pipe out the side of the case. But I am scraping that. I am going to do a nice window.

So you might be asking what CWC mean. CWC is a project that was started for school this year, and basically designed my own water cooling system. Other then the pump it was suppose to be custom. I started design on the water block and kind of came to a road block when I needed it CNCed. I was also suppose to make a custom res, and in line water filter. But now I am going to stick to getting the water block done on a drill press. Although recently a few people have approached me to CNC it for me but they have been a little slow on replying back.

This summer I pledged to finish off Knight Rider case cause last June was one year since it was started. Also I had CWC in my hand and I was like what the hek why not combine the two. So now you got Knight Rider CWC case mod.
BTW CWC=Custom Water Cooling

Case Mod Gods seem to be the heart of many great mods so I present with no farther ado

Knight Rider CWC Project Work Log

Enjoy and please comment it will only make my project only better when I get advise from veterans. But do not think I am a modding noob.

For some reason, again there is crap in my water. I think its crap or might just be foaming up of the water as it gettes air rated. That swiftech stuff made my water kinda foam up. BTW Guy red dye and swiftech addtive dont mix. I added the red dye stuff and still the water is UV green. I didn't know the swiftech stuff had UV dye in it.

As you can see still need to get a screw and nut that are long enough go through the Rad, but that are still thin.

Now to talk a little about the rad. I was planing on putting the rad in the front of the case and now I choose to put it, on the top. Under this air cleaner cover from early 90's Ford Truck.

The air cleaner cover has dual 80mm holes. Perfect for a nice cycder ling res's or two 80mm fans.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/UVgoodness043.jpg

It going to be sitting on this panle, why not mount the rad here any way.

HDD mounted in PSU box and were PSU use to go.

Remember the side panle I was working on. Well for the LAN I shot it with a coat of black and toke it. But as soon as I got back I started to sand. I stoped though. Will be back at the Bondo thing soon.

This is a plexi glass pump cover I am designing. Not sure to use it or not. Also if you can see, because of all the flame talk lately here at wizd forums I have drawen out a nice set of flames that I will cut out if I get a nice scroll saw with super thin blade.

Today I did more some more marking-up and taping-up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/Tapedup003.jpg

Like I told you the Air cleaner cover is going on top of the top panle as a rad shround.

Here it is all clamped down.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/Tapedup006.jpg

Now time for marking.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/Tapedup007.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/marquee_mark/Tapedup008.jpg

The places I missed because of the clamps I used a ruler to finish.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/Tapedup009.jpg

You can see that there is a 2cm difference from the edge of the cover to the inside of the cover space.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/Tapedup012.jpg

Nice and marked up. Marquee Mods Rules!

2 cm needs to be cut off because there is a chiped area on the duct. After I trim it down 2cm I am not sure what I might do with it. I might put 80mm fans in them. Or turn it in to a dual res design. With 2 80mm cyclinder like res's. That would look cool. I am also thinking of finishing the end to look like polished metal. Kinda like tail pipe.

All I know for now is I need to trim 2 cm.

My freind said put some tap on the inside and JB weld the endge to finish it but I am not sure that will look nice?

I am back at it guys. Today I am cutting the top panle. This is were the air cleaner cover will go and the the rad also. The air cleaner cover will act like a shroud for the rad also.

Modding is FUN! Sparks are a moodder's shadow, sparks are a modder's inner fire, sparks are the reason we mod, we are modders, we are flames, but together we are a blazing fire.

I lined up the holes and started to drill.

This is the mock-up. Just showing the massive amount of air flow.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/biggiy05/Marquee/Coverdrilling013.jpg

Tools needed to make a perfect hole. Hammer, drill bit, sharp object (nail will do), and clamps. I only used one clamp when marking the drill spot. After marking it, make sure to make it dented with a starter punch (sharp object) so that the drill bits catchs. I like to slowly drill for a nice clean drill hole.

Last Night (Nov, 16th), I sanded the Bondo down on the chassis, and the top panel. I found the Bondo on the front chassis worked really well in covering up the fan grill holes. I also used Bondo on the top because the top panel was a little dented in want a nice clean flush look. –

Ok guys today was big day. I tried drilling the copper. it worked but not as well as I wanted. I released that the copper block were not big enough to have 3 barbs like I intened so I am changing my design to a 2 barb block. Also released that the the mistake I made while drilling are not that bad and work well when water was sprayed on.

I also worked on the chassis. I put the putty on. I also started to prime the top panle. When I started priming, I then wanted to mod my MX 1000 again. I wanted to paint it like a red. A candy red, or a dark deep metalic red. So I started to take apart my MX1000, and then wanted the keyboard rist rest painted the same as the mouse too. So I to that sanded with 240 using sander, then 320 wet sanding by hand.

Marquee’s guide to great paint job.

You will need these things.

Sand Paper
180 grit
220 grit
320 grit
400 grit
600 grit
800 grit
1000 grit
1500 grit
2000 grit

Paint
Filling primer*
Normal primer
Paint color of choice
Clear coat

Candy look
Color tint and base coat.

Other things
Tack cloth
Some sort of glove (like rubber gloves)

Explaining My Technique
First off I would like to start by saying that my techniques were created by refining many tactics and methods. Just like many first time modders, I looked for advice by reading step by step guides and reviews on how to improve my methods of work. Then I tried to do one, it was kind of successful, but since then I have come across difficulties and some miner kinks that I have fixed. Note by no means is my guide a perfect one.

Using filling primer
Filling primer, a thicker primer to the can finishes quicker but if used right give even noob a nice paint job. When starting to paint the object, you must sand the surface to get rid of the clear coats or any surface errors. This is a good place to identify any surface dents that might need to be filled and scratches that will need some sanding. For noobs I suggest using filling primer as there first coat of primer. This way the sanding you just did will be easily filled. I found in my experiences as a newbie that my sand with low cores grit was very bad, in terms of leaving to many surface scratches that were hard to fill. Nevertheless after reaching a 220 grit move on to a 320 grit. Remember to make sure you are sanding in perpendicular motion. Meaning, sanding from right to left then sand up and down.

Like so:
First sand /\ \/ second sanding < >

Make sure to sand in alternating pattern. After every coat, sand is opposite direction.

Explaining the Colour Coats
After reaching 400 grit sanding make sure to move on to the colour coats. If you read any paint can it tells you to sand lightly and this really has some weight when painting the colour layers. From here on paint a coat then sand all the way to 100 grit. Then move to clear coat. Spray clear coat then 1500, then if you can get it clear then 2000. After the last layer I don’t like to sand. I personally don’t have much exprince with finishing the paint job, in terms of wax or some sort of after market creams. One thing that did happen to me is once I tried to use a turtle wax finisher after painting my first case the G5 theme, I had used a tremclad silver rust proof paint and the paint started to come off when buffed with turtle wax.

Candy Finish

The candy finish is a fun paint job. For some modders this will be supper easy. For other this will be moderate skill level needed. You start off with these things:

With Dupli-Color MetalCast paint system. You need a MetalCast ground coat. Its silverfish and the paint has some sort of additive that allow the later tint coat to bond together better. This is the thing I love about the Metal cast system. The paint has some sort of additive that if you apply enough paint that the gloss comes to the top and give you a nice smooth finish. So after reach about 800 grit I moved to the ground coat. A thing layer every 5-10min, at least 4 times. Then as paint can says, from the last layer I wait 30min and then applied the tint layer. Same with tint layer, apply 5-10min a thin layer then after about 4 layers stop and let dry.

Wait a couple days, let the paint cure and then apply clear coat. The MetalCast system to tell you the truth though, if applied right the surf might be able to do with out clear coat. But if you want your paint job to last years I suggest to clear coat it for sure.

Secrets of Marquee
I have found that using tack cloth before each coat has dramatically made my paint job better.

Painting inside, in highly ventilated area has also bettered my work. The outside has wind and may thing in the air that get stuck on the paint while paint out side.

Use a clamp and wear glove. Move the object around to paint all the hard to reach areas.

Clear of the area of paint with a cloth to get rit of dust that might get stuck to painted surface.

Prep is everything. The more you sand, the more detailed the sanding is, the better the paint job will look. Take you time. Painting is a art for those with patients not a thing that should be rushed or done to quickly.

Have a nice cold drink will sanding. It will make the time pass faster. Play some music flow to the beat.

My guide is not perfect, no a complete guide. I strongly recommend reading the mnpctech guide.

This will be my last photo update for a while guys. Its a mock-up of the water cooling, lights (UV & RED) and the top panel cover on my G5 chassis. The Knight Rider Chassis will be the same but will future a 120mm rear fan and also a 120mm front fan; Other then that the two chassis will be the same.

Also on the Knight Rider I will be cutting some holes on the mother board tray for the PSU cables and hard drive cables. I want to keep them hidden till they reach there right hardware there supplying with power.

I have I also came up with a new way to mount my hard drives. The new way is not in my sketches but will be soon.

On the sketches you will see the front Bezel design and some other little thing floating around in my mind. Also in the sketch you will see the window etching I want to do.

The case in the dark. Man no X-mas tree for me, my computer will do. LOL

Here is a sketch were I was playing with some ideas for the front. I was thinking of the front bezel and how it will work.

The front and top panel will look like this sketch but I am no 100% sure on the side. I was thinking of adding a cowel to the side but I am sure. Also I am thinking how the 24" x 12" peice of acrylic sheet will make a nice window for the side of teh cause.

I got a new little toy... Laser guided Jig saw. As most of you might know I am the founder of Mi-PCs.com. Soon Mi-PCs will be up and running. One thing we are trying to do is to create new cases. We hope for the first little bit to get cases and mod them, and in the future to have our own designed cases. That said over the last few months I have been building up a modding tool arsenal. The latest tool to be added to the arsenal is a Jig Saw. Ever since I saw tribelo, get a new one with laser guider I needed to get one. So I got a Laser guided, Jig saw with 4.5A motor, and many other features. One feature that it has that is pretty sweet it that the blades are stored onboard and look like the cartridge for the blades can be removed and secured to a belt.

Sisp thank you so much dude.

Rankenpile as a kid with no cable I watched many episoded of Knight Rider. I watch the whole thing and then watched the re-run at least 4 more times. When I did get cable I started watch the next greatest show, Baba watch. I will be getting a new package of stuff soon and when I get it I will be updating. I have been cought up with school work and the fact that some of the designs for this cases needed to be finilized before going any further. I need to work on the Front bezel design and specialy the mounting of the HDs under the Rad. I have some sketchs of the Hds and how they will mount. Also have a sketch/cardboard mouck up of the controle panle were the switchs and the some new light idea will be.

Well I dont remember a Ferrari.. There was an episode where they transplanted K.I.T.T. into a 57 Chevy. Then there were the "After the series" shows Knight Rider 2000 or 3000 where K.I.T.T. was the Pontiac Concept car called the Banshi. And then there was a VERY short lived series called Team Knight Rider where there were 5 characters that drove assorted vehicles, 1 SUV, 1 4WD Truck, a Mustang, and 2 Motorcycles.

Man I feel like a geek being able to remember that.. hahaha

I found it. It was called KRO
Knight Reformulation One
(K.R.O.)-Modified Ferrari GTS

.R.O. is a Series One Knight Foundation vehicle, Marland Technologies Project #17-328-2.
Voice of K.R.O.-John B. Wells
Driver-Martin Jenson
License Plate:KRO
Driver Override Code:N/A-KRO did not have this feature built in because the idea of the driver symbiosis was overlooked. After Kro killed six people and was deactivated, the D.O.C. was installed in the other five TKR vehicles

What was K.R.O.(Knight Reformulation One)?

K.R.O., short for Knight Reformation One, was designed to be a replacement for FLAG's highly successful revised prototype super car, KITT. FLAG's engineers put all of the years of experience and technological advances they'd developed while KITT was in service and put it into the shell of a Ferrari. KRO was suppose to spearhead the Foundation's efforts into a new decade. Unfortunately FLAG apparently didn't take as much care selecting KRO's driver, Martin Jantzen, as they did building KRO. He proved to be to unstable and was pushed over the edge by his car\driver relationship with KRO which also warped KRO's personality. KRO became extremely dangerous, resulting in the deaths of several technicians before he was shut down. He was later reactivated during the KRO mission and had to be hunted down my TKR in much the same way FLAG's first prototype, KARR, was. He was eventually destroyed and his driver killed, when he was buried in molten metal. Along with his long list of capabilities, KRO's scanners were specially configured to search for weaknesses in his targets, and exploit them. This proved to be a problem for TKR since FLAG had decided to incorporate special weak spots into their vehicles after the incident with KRO so they could be stopped easier if they went out of control.

Maybe if I make a new case, the next one will be modled after KRO. As far as Knight Rider CWC case, the UPS package should come today. I need to pay them a large amount of money because it came by ground mail I have to pay $87.32 CND.

As soon as I get the PSU. this next thing to do is to make the CP. Controle Panel. need to be re done because the PSU has a 120mm on top so I need to flip the PSU and then the make the new CP.

Here is one of the mods. Since the Rad will be mounted on the top panel replacing were the PSU went, there need to be a mod there. Right under the rad will be the HDs. Two hard drives for now. and then the Rad will screw into the top panel.

To start I need to cut the old PSU back plate. Then I drilled holes on the bottom in order to later rivet it to a flat sheet. The HD mounts will come out from the sheet metal and screw into the hard drives. When I was searching for a piece of metal is act as a mock up for the HD sheet I found that a CD-ROM bottom plate fit nicely. I am going to find an old CD-ROM with a flat sheet and use it.

No m8. There is so much to be done. I have to make the CP, cut enough holes, windows and hidding wires. Also need to make a switch box.

Last night I worked a little on the CP ( Control panel). It is designed to look like kits voice and CP. It looks cool.

http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/voice.gif

http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/CP_MS_sketch.gif

1) Squares that light up when switch turns on, IR scanner is the LED chaser, turbo is extra fan
2) Holes for switches, 1/2"
3) Top will be painted but side will have red glow coming out.
4) Side plate will not be painted but will glow red, and will have a boarder etched into it.

Today I got all the things need to make the custom fiberglass front bezel and some one said to me, with all this jazz you have in the case, why make the front so plain. Well I said to make it look clean. They said why not do something funky like the rest of the case. I thought for awhile what might I do. Nothing came to mind. I want to stick with my idea of plain front bezel but I wanted to ask the world first. What do you guys think? Plain front bezel or should I go with some sort of design?

** Ok the main problem I had with the X1800 XT is while installing and also while trying to run a game in full screen. While installing the ATI driver it had problem and reset itself. Also after that was done and I did anther install it still was problamtic because of the full screen problem. The full screen problem is that when trying to run this card with any game I found so far, (Counter Strike sourcce, FEAR MP demo, CoD2 SP demo, and BF2) is the card while in full screen doesn't not post good FPS. I am getting about the same FPS as my 6600GT with same settings and res. Also the card will rest itself for no reason. The screen turns off then card powers up to full fan speed the screen turns on. The game will start to freeze up right before card resets. Then the game will close. While playing Counter Strike it gave me a Engine Error, when the monitor came on. The error said something to the effect of Failed to hock buffer to......

Also since I have a older apple monitor its a little dark so I need to turn up the brightness and gamma in the video controle panle. The ATI version has one for the game and one for the desktop. I set both to right setting so see all the detail witht this monitor and started the game. The game was dark so I alt+tabed out and reset the brightness and gamma. When I tabed back to the game the game fails. I was hoping to have a update up yesterday but the card was very stable with the ATI driver to the point the whole computer will reset while I am on the desktop. For now still I find a good modded 5.13 driver I will use my 6600GT. I am kinda wanting that 7800GTX now. That card was scalbale and worked fine. By fine I mean I finaly got to turn the games to max settings.

@ Chris- Thanks man. I have got some more hardware that is hot end that you will like. By 8EST I will have the new hardware pics up and the new card.

@ Crenn- I would have got the 7800GTX 512MB if it had value. The 512mb is almost $1100 CDN. This is because that card is only made in low numbers. The X1800 XT performed better then the 7800GTX with 512mb because of the way the X1800 XT is made with a different architecture. The so called "architecture".

Number of 7800GTX 512w/mb (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28254)

GTX VS X1800XT (http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=ODc1LDM=)

@Exley- I understand for some people it worked fine but my system has slowly become a system filled with high end parts. When many high end parts come to gether some time they dont work well together. I am a hardware guy meaning I will experiment and will move around in the hardware brands but ATI for sure will need to work will its driver. So show you what I am talking about go to the contole panle for ati. go to color. Then set you gamma to like 1.8 and brightness too 11. That is what I did. Save it by pressing ok, or apply . Then go into a game. The brightness will go down to noralm again. Which is not suppost to happen. Any way the point is that the driver doesn't not fix enough of the problems with the X1800 XT. It focus more on the cards like X1600, X1700, and a little more on the X1800XL. I just feel at the time ATi's X1800 XT is not the best choice for my gaming rig. It sadness me to say this because I live a few km from ATi HQ. :( I should really call them up and ask them for a job to push there product. Because gamers need a midle man. Some one that can tell the large companies what they want. Like a driver that is nice.

Well I know I spelled alot of things wrong here but I am lazy to check it. With the clean install I have no MS word up yet.

updates coming soon.

GTX VS X1800XT (http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=ODc1LDM=)

I'll point out this. The 512MB 7800GTX actually preforms better than the 512MB X1800XT. The article you posted shows the 512MB X1800XT vs a 256MB BFGTech 7800GTX OC. And what's worse is the 7800GTX is beating it.... just.... but remember, that's only with 256MB.

If I can remember where I foudn the article. I'll post a comparison of the 2 512MB cards.

EDIT: Here's a good review on the cards:

Ok that was a quick post. But let me asure you if you read reviews you see that the X1800XT (which I dont own no more), was better in high quilalty, high res gaming. Most revies if you see them the nvidia cards do well in any res with now AA or AF. Here is a better review. You see here that a card like 7800GTX 256, is all most same as the X1800XT but as soon as AA and AF are turned on you see a big difference with the X1800XT on top. You see even a large margin when moving to larger res. But then again games like "Chronicles of Riddick" seem to be made for the 7800GTX. ALso check out the BF2, FEAR and 3Dmark05 test. They show that the card is better when AA and AF is turned on. The ATi cards seem to be built for AA and AF, while nvidia for pure speed. From what I hear the G71 core is a go and ready to start shipping soon. That core will be even more faster and better overclocker then G70 and will for sure kill the X1800XT and X1800XT PE when it comes to raw power. Also Dells new little play with fire machine with quade Sli is crazy. Keep in mind that nvidia is smart and wants you to buy a new card while ATi will like to slow down the game and R&D more.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/radeon-x1800.html

Edit dude the link you sent is so one side. Its also a lie. Look at the Doom 3 test. With a size od 16X12 res with 4xAA and 8xAF, even the 7800GT is better then the X1800XT. Let think for a sec. The most powerful ATi card with 512mb is not as good as 7800GT. Yeah right. BTW isn't Tom's hardware paid to review.

crenn
01-09-2006, 03:17 AM
Ok, I'll give you a quick hint into why the reviews are so different stories for the NVidia cards. If you read back in the TH review, you will see that the drivers used are the NVIDIA ForceWare 81.87 whereas the review you posted, they only use NVIDIA ForceWare 78.01. Remember, drivers do improve preformance. It's why both cards are near equal.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I'm actually incorrect. TH used NVIDIA ForceWare 81.89 for testing as NVIDIA ForceWare 81.87 didn't recognise the card used.

This update was due a few days ago but I had computer trouble in which I had to format my computer and then get a new hard drive and took me 3 tries to get windows to install with out error.

Since this is in the theme of the Knight Riders KITT car, I said what the hell let me give it a underground effect. So I took the bottom lined up the tube and marked off the holes. Then toke a dremel to it. The tube will be held to the bottom later bu a zip tie or metal bracket. The zip tie or metal bracket will be hidden from viewer looking into the case by and pice of plexi that will be mirror like.

Thanks, I try my best to keep the camera study. But with like 4 cups of coffee in me, holding a camera still is like holding a dremel still hard to do.

Ok this post is to show the way the HD will be mounted and were they will be mounted. It will be placed right over the RAM and CPU area. If the PSU was still were it will normaly be, the HDs will be mounted right under the PSU box. I will be using a Zalman hard driver cooler. I plan to take the hard drive cooler apart and paint it the same way as the mouse to give it a red look. Red and chrome will be the final colours of the hard driver cooler. Here comes the pics.

This is the plate that will support the HDs, I will use spacer and some plexi to hide the screws of the HD.

Ok guys this update is very minor work. It’s just me lightly priming the ND mounting and the cleaner cover. From this point on I would like to call the cleaner cover The Core. Why the core, because the heater core sits right under it. Any way. I primed them so I can get and idea what needs to be sanded, better and areas that will stick out when painted. Found many things I never thought of, and a few I already knew of.

Over here you see that there is a sort of a low area, it might need filling, or might be good, because of the rivets and the space below is tight any way.
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_060.sized.jpg

This is that PSU back plate. I see I need to get better files and file it down. I need to get smaller files.
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_061.sized.jpg

This is the famouse Core
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_062.sized.jpg

This will need sanding to make it smooth.
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_064.sized.jpg

Here are some more areas.
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_065.sized.jpg

A better shot of what I am talking about
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_066.sized.jpg

Anther area, I was hoping this area would heal it self. Kinda pissed off, of the amount of sanding I must do still.
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Picture_067.sized.jpg

In the end the core, will be painted a candy red to stand out a little from the glossy black case. Like so.\/

Enjoy the work.

Ok there seem to be many questions on many forums about the state of the water cooling. If it will go in or not and what not. Yes it will go in and here is a sneak preview of the block that many and machines are working on. I plan to have three of them made. One copper base with plastic clear top, aluminum base with plastic clear top, and an all aluminum one. After some tests with the three blocks the winning block will be used. Also the winning block I am going to order 10 more of and sell them on my future web shop.

OMG I cant believe this. I am being Featured. This is a first for me. :)

I am going to make a plate that closes of the res of the gap betwean the case inner and the haeter core to force all the air down the hearcore. I am hoping to use a fan controler in the end to mangen the noise levels. The two smaller hole wont be used for fans. Although they are perfect for 80mm fan I am going to mount a dual 80mm res there. Nice and clear so that the red water can be seen. In the future. No plans on doing that now, since I need some tool that I dont have yet. Tap and die, drill press, and much needed skill with plexi.

Ok guys this update is thanks to the guys at bit-tech who have motivated me. They said my work was **** and I can make it better. Its true though I can make it better. But I don’t share the same ideas as them when it come to my work being **** though. Any way long story short they suggested a few ideas. Ideas that I have been personally have been thinking about for the past week.

First idea was the fins on turbo. To keep them or no? The fins in some areas are damaged and they’re for need to be repaired. Or better yet cut them all off and then simply paint the turbo to keep the clean and sleek look. I thought about this again. They were right. It will look better cut off. So I told them I would do this and off to the shed I went. I broke out my new dremel and the flex shaft. I cut all the side fins off. The front fins are a little harder to cut because they touch on the corners and also on top parts of the bottom instead of just one like the side piece. I have saved the front fins to be cut on Wednesday. I haven’t sanded the sides down by hand yet so still looks rough. But I have sanded it with the Dremel.

Last look at finshttp://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Turbo_fins_cut_001.sized.jpg

http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album04/Turbo_fins_cut_003.sized.jpg

This is what I said about the front piece touching the bottom twice.

AWW MAN!! Hope you didn't get rid of those back fins just yet! I would bondo the back fins up to keep the sleek going all the way to the very back edge. It would keep the sleekness factor up, and make the unit a lot stronger. Also, maybe you could try doing that with the sides, rather than having edges sticking out each side.

PS. Bit-Tech people....they are poo :)

I got the wheels from Performance-PC.com. I dont see my self trying to fix the front fins and keeping then there. There already half gone. After this cutting next thing I have lined up is there, Pump mounting and the pump bracket. Most will have forgot about this looks at one of the pics of the water cooling mock-up. The pump is place near the front and is placed with its back to the viewer. Also at the same time I will be doning the plastic part of the HD mount.

So the big question is. Is Knight Rider down and out. No way. I just haven’t had as much time. I have been doing a little work for my sponsors at there place configuring some of there high end computers for them. I also have been there on-site gaming hardware expert for a big visit day from one of there highest ranked employers. Its no formal position, just for there store to look good in the eyes of there boss.

I have been working on KR (KnightRider) on and off. Not much work has been completed because of the big visit thing, exam and some troubles at home. Here is what I have done.

Does any one here have some thick piece of metal. Nothing $$$, no copper. Steal or something like that. I was designing the res, and how it will be mounted but I need some thick metal.

When I mean think at least, .5cm-1cm thick metal. I will have some new sketches up soon for the rest of the inner case up. Also some more cutting of the mirror plexi.

I have found my self looking for a new machinist. I kinda got a new one and thus for re-designing the water block again. This time I am designing from the ground up again. I will have pics of the new pro-type designs up soon.

Ok folks I have a little update. This is all the mirror piece cut and mounted in place. This is the first fitting for this case. And since it was the first issues came up. First being were the mobo mirror piece meet the bottom. I cut out a notch into the bottom one. Also found more problems were the mobo tray meets the front frame. The inner Bondo still needs to be sanded down.

Most other areas are fin other then some scratching which I will easily fix and some chipping. The chipping will be fix with some molding or some rubber tape for the edges. The scratching will just be taped up or coloured in from underneath to make the scratch go away.

Here are the pic hope you enjoy them. Also here is the progress pic for those who asked.

Ok I first started by washing down the part to be painted. Then I didn't want to paint. The reason being that I want need to find a new way to paint. I have been banned from painting inside the house so I must only paint out side. But the Canadian weather is hard to deal with the hardly ever have the nice 20C temps. Well its either 40C in Toronto or -40C. L:lol: L

So I remebered I watch a show the other night with Chip Foose on it. They were under a dead line and after painting the Baked the car. I thought it was to finishing drying fast. So I started. Before I knew it I was done. The hole thing only took me about 1hr. Thats about 3 thin coats every 10min. Mine was more like every 15min. The out side temp was like -2C. Then I let it dry in side for less then 20min. Then into the oven for 10min at 170F then 20min at 180F.

For the knob it was the same time but I only put then in the oven at 170F and I was watching close cause I didn't want the plastic to melt. Also I need to let it harded when it came out because the plastitc was soft. This new way was fun and cut the painting time by alot. Try it guys I think you will love it. Also I found by bakeing in the oven it got rit of the freezing effect of painting it extreme cold temps.

Well enjoy the pics.

I love the mirrors. I think that they will make the interior look super high tech by showing the mirror image of all the components and wiring. This gave me an idea about that old trick when you have 2 mirrors facing each other and the reflection looks infinite. I wonder if there is a cool way to do something like that with lights. I don't know if anyone has already mentioned that further up in the worklog, but if they did, then it is definitely a good idea hahaha. Anyways, awesom job so far. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks Vaantal. I just keep trucking and trying to get something done every week. I think I am going to have to make to more plates for the inside. So I can make the back frame were the pci slots are mirrored and also the front one were the drive bays are. But only from the inside.

Well the oven has a opening at the top to let the air out through one of the stove tops. Then I have a fan over the oven clearing the air outside. Also I leave the paint it only for a max od 30min. I check the parts many time during that time and let the air out often.

Some might know that I bought anther HD. This time a Maxtor 200GB with 16mb cache. I had bought a Seagate 300GB 16mb cache and NQC but I thought it was a little out of my price range and needed to get something a little more cheaper. So I went for the Maxtor which was about $65CND cheaper.

Today I had an idea. Well I had the idea a few days ago but didn’t start to sketch it up till today. The idea was to mount the switches under the frame and is a way that its not seen so much. I found a nice piece of metal sheet and started to draw more and more. Till I got this folding idea. But then again my corners are not perfect, nor the flat sides are not even because of my hammering. Well any way it looks bad but trust me with some grinding filling a black paint it will look nice.

Geting a feel for the size of the mounting bracket.

No you, are not looking at the Matrix, but the line I need to draw a nice perfect centre on the boxes.

Holes drilled, that was the easy part.

These ares on both sides need to be trimed in order for the bracket to fit nice ly under the frame of the case.

This is the depth I want to mount the bracket at.

Hey guys how you guys been. I am currently on my spring break and working around the clock on the modding. I have a few thing done and I think you might like them. I have been playing a lot of CS also. It helps me think. I all the action makes me think very good after ward.

Any way, in today’s update I have anodized the wheels. Primed the bottom frame. I was surprised to see I have no black paint at the moment. I am going to paint the black on and bake it to see the effects of the baking on normal paint. Then maybe the guide I am writing will be able to work with normal painting process.

I have also been thinking about wiring and how I am going to wire all the switches to the fans and the lights. I have also found a nice sized LED chaser that is pre-built. Its ment for cars and the size is small enough to fit in the front bezel. I think its about $30CDN. Little more then I want to spend for the LED chaser but hell it looks nice cause it has a black tinted plastic cover over the LEDs. I have not bought it just yet but will maybe some time next week.

As far as the baking guide goes I am going to release in two parts first part will be available in my work log but the second part will be available on the TTM site(first part will also be there too). And my guide is in no way perfect and it should be a follow-up read to MNPCTECH’s painting guid (http://www.mnpctech.com/case-mod-paint-computer-pc-case-mod-how-to.html)e.

There is a 3 CD thickness between the bottom the switch box. With paint it will more to more like 2 CD thickness.

The switch box. I am going to candy red it to. I was going to paint it black but not no more.

There are these small little things on the locking mechanism, you need to take them off, that cant be painted.

You need to take out the screw on this part too.
http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album11/red_wheels_010.sized.jpg

I started to tape things up. I found it hard to think of a way to cover were the plastic bearings go. After a few mins of thinking though I found this.

Put tape on the plastic part then insert.

Part #1 of 2

So you want to Candy Paint.

In this guide, I will demonstrate how paint baking and candy painting is done. Remember, this is not the only way to bake paint. There is 100 different ways to do the paint baking but in the end the results will be the same. That said, you should read MNPCTECH’s painting guide (http://www.mnpctech.com/case-mod-paint-computer-pc-case-mod-how-to.html)before reading my guide. That was the first painting guide I ever read and the first you should read to understand my technique in a better way. For a long time I followed MNPCTECH's guide (http://www.mnpctech.com/case-mod-paint-computer-pc-case-mod-how-to.html) but then I started to experiment with different ways and ways to shorten the time for the paint to dry. Thus my technique was created.

Remember…. Please Remember
Remember that painting can be very relaxing and rewarding. This painting guide shows you how to paint with candy finishes and also how to oven bake your paint. Remember that I am a complete novice and my guide can’t be accountable for any damages to you or your property. Remember this might be quicker way to paint but you need to keep a close eye on the paint at all times. Literally, I was watching the paint bake all the way through just in case anything happened. This is because paint fumes are very combustible and you need to ‘purge your ovens air’ once in a while.

What you need..
You need a nice area to work in. I always liked working inside in a well ventilated area because you can better control the environment. The METALCAST paint is very picky in the temperature it likes to dry in, but by baking it we overcome that issue. You need a oven that you don’t plan on using the whole time you are baking. Make sure your oven also has a vent in one of the 4 burners above it. Mine has a little pipe that runs from the oven to the top right hand side burner. This will allow some air to escape.

Oven
METALCAST ground coat
METALCAST tint
Scratch Filler & Primer (Red Primer)
Sand Paper (200,300,400)
Clear Coat
Rubber Gloves
Tape

Anodized Finish
To create the anodized finish like the Drive Bay you need to take the bare metal and wash it with soap and hot water. Then dry off. Tape up any areas were there will be moving parts like CD drive coming in contact with the drive bay. These areas we can not be paint because they need a specific clearness and the paint will normally exceed that clearness room. To anodize you don’t need the ground coat or primer. The tint needs to be first heated up. I used a pitcher filled with hot tap water, then I placed a dish over the can so it doesn’t float. I waited about 10mins, then took the can out. I started to shake the can. I put on the rubber gloves then I started to paint. Use very thin coats. Set the piece down and come back every 10min to 15min to paint again. If you want a more copperish look to the paint then only do a couple coats (2). If you want a deeper red, I would say do more like coats (5). But with doing 5 coats you need to pay extra attention to how thick the paint it becoming. At this point you can let it dry and still come out with nice paint job. But my secret is to bake it.

In Canada there are very cold temps during the winter and thus its difficult to paint. I painted out side once and the paint job was smooth but was very oopeg. The oven baking further smoothes out the paint and makes the surface glossy again.

Aero- The temps depends on what you are baling. Plstics should be 170F and metals more. But in the second part I explain all that details for the baking. That’s one of the reasons why I made a part two, to the guide. There is so much I need to say I made two parts.

Wait for the for second part before you try this.

ColModish- Never tries it with gas stove. Please wait for the second part, I have some idea to make this a gas stove friendly way. I need to experiment.

Soon it will be finished. Well atleast the Knight Rider part will.

Then I got start work on the CWC part.

Some good news flew modders.

The turbo below, was chipped in the front and needed to be fixed. Also the holes at the top were to big. Well this morning I was trying out the AOC fans on the turbo and they fit perfect. I mean, they cover up the extra gap on the fan hole because AOC fan is thicker in size. This just means less work for me.

http://images.mi-pcs.com/albums/album12/May_4th_017.sized.jpg

By tonight I should have the turbo finished in Bondo and hopefully primed. Also today I am going try and get the RAD mount bracket finished but that’s hard to do when I have no metal blade for my jig saw.

I said I would try to do the Bondo work on the front so I did. Since I am so into the case right now might as well do more work before the work week begins? Ok here is what I did.
I first broke off the piece of plastic that was flapping.
Then I made a cardboard trace of the area needed to be filled.
Then cut a piece of plexi to that size.
Then I had to sanded the plexi so its the right thickness to fit in the hole.
When that was done I cleaned the area that I was going to epoxy the plexi to.
epoxyed the plexi to turbo.
Then waited for it to dry.
I am using anew bondo, this stuff is the carbon fiber stuff.
It has strands of fiber in it to make it stronger.
Also when dry its harder to sand.
I mixed allot of this stuff so I did the front and there was some small dents in the side so I filled them too..

Here is the first issue I found with the Turbo case: In the areas with no Bondo / putty filler, its not smooth. I am going to try to sand the whole turbo again to smooth it out. If that doesn’t work I am going to putty it all up.

BTW guys I have been working on the case, but I came accorrs one major set back. When I was sanding the top panle for final time before paint the primer started to peal off. Not all of its gone but I think its because the surface under the primer was supper smooth so I am going to sand the it will 80 grip paper then prime is again. I hope this will fix the issues.
