the first big tech company hits the wall and gets nailed.

I wonder who will be next, i wonder about ati/amd since they have such huge debits

If ATi/AMD go down, we'll have two simultaneous monopolies. I don't think the market will let that happen.

Having two great Intel-based Abits (VH6T, now passed back to the original owner's son, and GD8 ) and knowing what I do about their excellent nForce2-up 'boards, this is a damn shame. Seems inevitable, though, as they were bought out a couple years ago, and nothing good can last forever.

Gonna hug my GD8 system now. Sad news indeed.

The thing that shocks me is that this has been happening since 2006.

As fuzzy explained, it can't happen. The gov't would have to subsidize AMD/ATI before that would happen, as not to create a monopoly (if Intel had full control, they would price fix and jack prices sky-high). ATI has brought back AMD for the most part, anyway, and I don't think they would go under before Fusion pulls in some much-needed funds. VIA and IBM couldn't compete, cause they are within a different "department" of processors.

That's what they did with Abit, the government took over in 2006 but eventually they went under anyway.

AMD pulled ATI out of crap creek and it didn't do a lot for them.
