I was looking at the Dell Studio 17 laptop and I noticed it had a weird looking USB port, so I looked it up and apparently its called a "powered usb port"? What is that for? I'm not sure if I've ever heard of it before...

Muchas gracias de antemano!

I think it continues to provide power to charge devices when the computer is turned off.

Interesting. Can anyone confirm that? That would be kind of neat I suppose. I could plug in a usb light during power outages an probably get a good amount of time out of it since the laptop wouldn't have to be on. :p

Here is a picture by the way, its the funky looking one, obviously. lol

Here is a link to the review (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4471), just in case anyone is interested. I might get one in January using my tax returns! :D
(I realize the XPS is the same price and comes with better equipment by the way, I just like having a 17" screen. ^_^)

The review says "including one of high-power USB devices". I would be lead to believe it's for devices that require more then just 500mA.

IDK. Coffee pots require a lot of power. It's entirely possible. There's three people selling it, all saying the same thing. http://desc.shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=5000ma+USB&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=1&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=5000ma&_osacat=0

thats rubbish about proving power after turning the system off,

All my PC's provide power to the USB ports when off (I know becuase my phone charges from usb while there off) and my leptop does the same until either i flick a switch or the battery is below 40%

Basically, to summarize, it provides power to devices that require an external power source so those devices no longer require an external power source, such as USB Printers and USB Monitors for example.

So in other words... Its ****ing awesome!
